This is a giant tax increase for individuals and business gets all the benefit as they get it all back, you as an individual do not. Once again the governments are putting the
tax burden on us while business get the gravy, and I can't wait to vote against my
BC provincial government. These clowns spent all our money on the Olympics and we get to pay the cost now they bail themselves out with the HST, at our expense.
We will pay additional taxes plus we will face other tax hikes to pay for the games
all so a handful of special interests can benefit.

Not entirely true. Low income gets you many tax credits and rebates so do natives. As usual it will be those from middle to upper income that will bear the brunt of all taxes. On the bright side tourists will pay tax on more items they buy here and we no longer need all the high paid bureaucrats that administer the PST which helps our government. I suspect this is the part that the dippers don't like.
There i still plenty of time for the government to exempt anything they want and as someone pointed out in an article I was reading there is nothing stopping governments from imposing new taxes or raising old ones any time they want.

I didn't get the feeling dg was referring to "low income". For sure the middle income like in the $20000- $40000 range will likely be bearing the brunt of the 2010 Charade.

Not as they practiced politics here from about 1996 to 2000.

Or as they practiced it in the seventies during our first bout with Dipper disaster.
For those of you not fammilular with B.C. NDP , they mostly make Taliban Jack look like a right winger. They just made Moe Shiota? president. He was removed from cabinet three times during the nineties for various conflicts of interest. They were also caught stealing from charities to finance their propaganda machine. Only one went to jail. Just can't think of his name right now. Carole James , current leader represents the government union employees but not much else.

If there was really such a brunt to bear, middle and upper incomes would copy low income and natives.

Did Dave Stupich go to jail? I didn't think so. The only one I can remember was Robert Sommers of Social Credit fame during the hot summer of 1958.

Anyone who wants to talk seriously about the future of N.D.P. in B.C. can not talk seriously about Carol James. She's more like Campbell than many think without the fiscal ability.

Under 40G with a family still gets you tax credits.
I think the Olympics will make us money. Probably take 3 or 4 years to show. Other than security most of the expenditures have been on long term projects that were needed anyway. The Olympic village is Vancouvers own missmanaged project and should not cost the rest of us anything. Comox Valley stands to make significant revenue this winter since several teams are using Mt. Washington for practice. I had heard 1500 people counting hangers on but not confirmed. Don't know about other ski hills, but I would expect some will see increases because Washington will be so crowded.

Sure hope you are right, it wouldn't benefit any of us for this thing to fail.

The Olys may make the area around Vancouver money, but I seriously doubt it helps out any of the rest of BC. You seem to have the same syndrome as Torontonians (except transplanted to Vancouver): what's good for TO is good for everyone else. lmao

If all you can do is spew these silly little one liners without actually discussing anything, there's no point in paying attention to you.

I've been having a blast watching you put your foot in it for the past two weeks. Keep the laughs coming!

HST will bring in lots of jobs.

The businesses that want to stay open will give bigger deals to consumers.

The people that are against HST are making a mountain out of a mole hill just verbal diarrhea.

There was a lot of opposition to the GST but no one gives it a second thought today.

Prices adjusted and life goes on.

When HST comes in on July 2010 if you can't afford it don't buy it.

Pay goes up even on fixed incomes.

If you don't like it run for office and get rid of it but you won't because it works
