What do you guys mean watching the US deconstruct from canada is a safe distance? I suggest you read more on the economies of Canada and US. Its not all just maufacturing although that is huge. If the US economy falls Canada's will certainly be devistated. Here in Canada and the USA we do more importing than exporting to the rest of the world. The only industries I can see not completely being affected would be our natural resources revenues. And I certainly would not like China to come over here and start bullying us around. Honestly do you wackos think that China would be a better superpower than America????

............ like I always say, PISS OFF A LIBERAL, BUY A GUN

wow.......spoken like a true neoconfascist believer. The US is too much in debt now to be anything but a cosmetic "super power". All it has is the military......Braun ......and few brains.

The era of any one nation being a "super power" is over ......or nearly so and the concept is totally outdated. The US is the only one that still glorifies itself as a "superpower".....to feed it's ravenous ego.

time for humanity to move to an era of compassion , cooperation and compromise....for the betterment of the entire world.

No one is idolizing Chavez.... any more than one is idolizing anyone. (that is an American thing.......Idol worship). What he said is pointed and TRUE. So the truth hurts.......deal with it. sheesh.

now about pissing off a liberal. Gosh, that is kiddie stuff. What is it that you neo cons have about provoking others ......with bullying tactics?? Does that give ya'all sadistic pleasure??? Regardless of the "rewards" you get.........it is SICK. as in anti social behavior. ........Time to grow up...or get psychiatric help... Maybe de- programming therapy. ( deconditioning ??)

Ocean what kind of moron are you?
the US while in debt still has the largest economy in the world. The closest comparable economy would be China's which is hardly half the size( given their population of approx 950 million more people then the US). The China economy is growing at an amazing pace 8.5%, but the US is not sluggish rated at about 4.5%.

85% of our exports head to the US, and I believe approximately 55% of our GDP is tied in with the Americans! But im sure you would be happy once the north american economy goes to shit! Wake UP.

I diden't know the rules of the forum.......... and that moron was such a frowned upon term. Sry bout that.

But my point stands that the Amecian and Canadian economy are closely intertwined and that by asking for the destruction of the American economy will indirectally effect our country! I suggest reading up on some facts.

Chavez: U.S. Plans to Invade Venezuela

AP | September 18 2005

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Friday he has documentary evidence that the United States plans to invade his country.

Chavez, interviewed on ABC's "Nightline," said the plan is called "Balboa" and involves aircraft carriers and planes. A transcript of the interview was made available by "Nightline."

He said U.S. soldiers recently went to Curacao, an island off Venezuela's northwest coast. He described as a "lie" the official U.S. explanation that they visited Curacao for rest and recreation.

"They were doing movements. They were doing maneuvers," Chavez said, speaking through a translator.

He added: "We are coming up with the counter-Balboa plan. That is to say if the government of the United States attempts to commit the foolhardy enterprise of attacking us, it would be embarked on a 100-year war. We are prepared."

Chavez has been attending the summit of world leaders at the United Nations in New York this week. On Thursday, he denounced the U.S.-led war in Iraq and told other leaders they should consider moving the U.N. headquarters out of the United States.

To prove U.S. intentions to invade Venezuela, Chavez offered to send "Nightline" host Ted Koppel maps and other documentation.

"What I can't tell you is how we got it, to protect the sources, how we got it through military intelligence," he said.

In the event of a U.S. invasion, Chavez said the United States can "just forget" about receiving any more oil from his country.

moot point. That the economies of the US and CA are interwined is a given. But that isn't the topic here, is it?? Wanna discuss economics .......set up a thread for just that.

YES, there are rules of decorum here, and it is "suggested" that you read up on those "facts"......rules.

Gotta say , that "you ".....hank.......sound very familiar....for some reason. Have we met while you were someone else ,perhaps??? Or do all of you="neo cons" sound alike now???---as in preach from the same "bible"??? Seems that many of the neo con stripe are losing their individual identity now....being the conformists that they are.

The US is a loose cannon now.......and a bloody dangerous one. If there is any doubt that the US is a terrorist......nation , this kind of threat/s that they issue at random to whom ever is the flavor of the day, just verifies it.

So true and while it's no surprise that the U.S. has plans stashed away somewhere to invade many countries I can't help but wonder if Chavez has instigated something way beyond his control here. In it's current state the world is far too smitten with U.S. dollars to do much but be an international "conscientous observer" once again should another illegal invasion or U.S. backed coup occur. Personally I figure Chavez is just brushing up on his Kim Jong Il impersonation by banking the USG is too busy with Iraq and it's growing obession with Iran to pay Venezuela any more than negative lip service. On the bright side, we get to hear Condi make more ludicrous threats...err... forceful suggestions ... against yet another sovereign nation.

I got two questions for you guys and instead of talking about Bush and all how you hate conservatives just answer them straight up. Yea yea, I know that the US armed the taliban to fight the Soviet invaders a while back, but thats not the question i'm askin.

Is Afghanistan better off now than it was 5 years ago??

Re: Chavez called the United States a "terrorist state&

.....how are you measuring "better off"??? By stability?? By their increased poppy growth?? By the fact the gov't is virtually isolated in protection due to the threat of drug lords etc?? Don't think "we" know enough about the realities on the ground there.....to make an accurate assessment. So it would just be speculation dosed with wishful thinking. All the media reports about Afganistan is what the US WANTS it to report.....and that is usually a seriously biased picture. Selective reporting and all that.

Given that we are already in Iraq now, would it be better for the Iraqi people if we pulled out tomorrow?
For the Iraqi people?? Would like to have THEM answer that question. Maybe they should do a poll of all Iraqis and see what it says. It was NOT Up to the US to invade the way it did and now that it has essentially lost control.......it is not up to the US to decide how long to stay WITHOUT the Iraqi input. Iraq is not "free" to make its own decisions...... and the US saw to that. The US has no intentions of removing itself from Iraq for a very long time ......as it would not be investing megabucks on military bases in Iraq ........which is another sign of how presumptuous the US is. Invade, Kill, torture, Maim.......grab some land for their own purposes (military bases) and make sure the Oil reserves are secure by the US. and then try to sell the world the "freedom' pitch .......as if the world is stupid. the US has politicized "freedom' and what used to be "democracy" for its own purposes now. One big con game. with only self interest in mind. The US could care less about either the Afgans or the Iraqis as a people. anymore than it cares for its own impoverished on the mainland.

RE: Chavez called the Uni

You should remember that Afghanistan is a joint effort, Hank. The French are there, the Germans are there, and the Canadians are there. Many other countries have contributed.

It is only the Americans that have beaten prisoners to death in Afghanistan though. In one case they had already decided that the guy was innocent, they just thought it was funny the way he prayed when they beat him.

US military and CIA advisors have also been tied to atrocities committed by the Northern Alliance warlords that they decided were their best buddies.

That's terrorism, Hank. It's war crimes. It's murder. If we don't call the US on it, then we have no business calling anybody else on it either.

I have a question for you though, Hank. This thread is about Hugo Chavez. He's democratically elected, he has massive popular support. He has a better human rights record than any previous leader of Venezuela. Other South American leaders have indicated that they will stand behind him if the US won't leave him alone.

Now the question, Hank. Is your attempt to change the subject because you are afraid of Chavez, or is it because Chavez wasn't covered in your latest talking points memo?

RE: Chavez called the Uni

Afghanistan is not much better off now than before. Only the largest of cities are semi-controlled with the rest of the country being lawless under the control of various warlords or in the worst of cases, being either in an active ops zone or an area disputed between warlords. Before the place was at least controlled by the Taliban, better some stability than very little. The fact that they all but had OBL then let up to invade Iraq was inexcusable, both from a military and moral view. The U.S. of all nations should know that when the time is right, the people will rise... give others some credit.

As for Iraq, well, now that the U.S. is there they have a responsibility to stay until the situation stabilises. Ideally they would let the Iraqi's call the shots on their own to stabilise their country in their own way but that's a pipe dream at this stage of the game. Iraq was doing just fine without any intervention (either time). There were other countries far more 'deserving' than Iraq if we go by any of the changing criteria for invasion over the past few years.

What are you talking about buddy. Since when did the US put Saddam in Iraq and the taliban in Afghanistan?

"Don't think "we" know enough about the realities on the ground there.....to make an accurate assessment."

That is a fair assesment, however it seems there was a fairly large turnout for the elections. And just the act of having elections in a war torn country is great. If you dont want to beleive news from the US then watch BBC, CBC ect......

http://www.canada-afghanistan.gc.ca/menu-en.asp

The Invasion of iraq might be questionable however anyone who doesn't think that the liberation of Afghanistan was the right thing to do is a moron. It makes me happy that Canada is involved and how it makes you people mad. And also the reelection of bush puts a smile on my face, being a person who holds dual citizenship with family all in Ohio. You all know who I vote for. You guys are losing just face it.
Sure Bush is not great on the economy with his outsourcing and debt but we needed him to win these battles and set iraq and afghanistan right. I know that by 2008 we will all be focused on the economy and america will elect in someone to tighten up the belt and work on the economy, be it a democrat or republican. North America will never fall!!
