Ok.......... then where does the money come from for infrastructure upkeep?

Well before the temporary Income War Tax Act (1917) it was paid for by customs and excise fees, business taxes and property taxes. Back then 90-95% of govt revenues came from these sources and every service government provided to the citizens was free of any charges or fees. Move ahead to 2015 and now personal income tax and sales taxes and user fees account for about 75-80% of revenue.

The philosophy way back was that if a business was to make a good profit off the citizens then that business was responsible to give something in return for the opportunity to utilize the marketplace. Quite a shame that corporate ownership of the politicians has reversed it to such a degree.

Another fun fact...almost none of your tax dollars go to infrastructure or social programs. Most goes to paying interest on the debt so they have to borrow more to even fill a pothole. So there ya go...to answer your question they borrow it.

Road tax on gasoline and property taxes. The only infrastructure maintenance Feds buck up for is marine and a couple bridges. Very little. Some provinces manage their infrastructure and others let it slide. Quebec and BC are stellar on the let it slide until the Feds step in.

The money dumped into BC over the past 8 years has been staggering. It took 45 years since the last time The Feds stepped to build a freeway for Metro Vancouver. It works. It would work a f-ck of a lot better if Asians would learn how to merge.

It still needs more in the burbs. Retarded bottlenecks and people who don't know how to merge makes for high rate of fatalities.

Increase it to what point? 90% of total revenue? 120% of total revenue? You see we as a population already give about 70% of every earned dollar to some level of government in various taxes and fees so just how much more do you want it to go up? Ever-increasing taxation only leads to 1 thing and that is violent revolt. Is that the final goal? Foster an eventual blood-in-the-streets rebellion so as to impose complete martial law and decimate the population through starvation and state-sponsored massacres? That is where this all looks to be leading if you ask me.

I'm not sure where you get your numbers from, but here is where Canada stands in terms of taxation. It's an American graph, but Canada is about 12th from the bottom.

The results on election day aren't the only thing that matters.

This is why Harper had no legacy and Trudeau will have an easy second majority.

OMG I hope not! We can't afford another Trudeau 4 years - he's already aiming for an additional $80 Billion in debt over and above the current 30B. Another 4 years will be disastrous!!

Harper's legacy will be one of the best PM's we've ever had, ESPECIALLY in foreign affairs. He was respected by our foreign Allies OTOH Trudeau's legacy will be his "selfies". He keeps stating that "Canada is back" - yeah, back to where? He's taking us back to obliteration financially while he's having a fun on our dime. Canada was already back under Harper, thank you very much. Harper was an actual Leader - not a follower. Trudeau is more of a "celebrity" than a PM.

Effective in what sense? Effective to what end result? Weird that isn't mentioned.
Is it an accident or oversight that, "a tax on carbon has to increase to be effective"
is mentioned over & over above, but no mention as to what it is effective in doing?

Think of how many days she would have been lost if it was her and a map. Could have been at it for weeks and how much is that worth when it's all said and done.
