Whose version of history? Subs don't invade and if we had not been in the war, they never would have come over here. War is about money, nothing else. It helped us out of the Great Depression, but at what cost?

They would have been here eventually, once Germany had control of France they had control of the Atlantic. Britain would have fallen, (and came very close to it). A megalomaniacal dictator who thinks he can win a war on two fronts, and couquered most of Europe would certainly have brought the war to us whether wer were in it or not. We had many U-boats off our coast and up the St.Lawrence, among warships, they also sank supply ships, freighters and at least one passenger ferry, (the Caribou). The legends of German submariners coming ashore were verified a couple of years ago when an elderly German visitor to Halifax's Pier 21 confirmed he was one of the U-boat sailors that locals met in Yarmouth NS during the war. There are times we have to take the war to them before they bring it to us. Afghanistan is a different animal. Even though most if not all terrorists are not from there, Afghanistan was a facilitator and exporter of terrorists, a welcoming haven. The Taliban also exercised its brand of terror on it own citizens. Maybe the history books will decide the right and wrong, but letting them continue unabated didn't sound like a viable option at the time.

So then we should have not fought the Japs either then? Even though they landed on Canadian soil in subs.
