Well, they're not spoilers when the show has already aired! You have to stay away from here if you haven't watched the show!!!
Mmhmm, I've been lurking in this thread for a while, but I avoid it after the elimination show because I never watch it the night of.
So tonight we had our weekly Idol party and I got into a half-drunk argument with my friend over whether Pia deserved to be kicked out or not. Everyone agreed that Pia, despite having the best voice in the competition, is boring. My friend thought that that was enough to have her kicked off this week over Stefano, while I, on the other hand, have been campaigning for Stefano's ouster for weeks. Pia's boring but I would have liked to see her overcome that. She could have grown, and I think she will grow, but we won't be able to see that. I don't get the appeal of Stefano. Actually, that's not true.. I
do get the appeal of Stefano but my girlfriends deny it. He's cute. He's Latin. Sings sappy love songs. What more can you ask for? That's why women and tweens, I assume the main demographic of the show, vote for him. But he's a horrible singer and phony even for Idol standards.
Of course, I'm always the black sheep in the crowd as I don't really like the kind of manufactured pop music on the show. My favourites have been Casey and Paul, but they need some work. Casey especially. Scotty is entertaining but not my cup of tea. I find James to be another phony whose chosen style (rock) isn't amicable to phonies. He's an entertaining singer though. One major disagreement this week was James' song. I hated it. I thought he absolutely butchered a beautiful song with his gratuitous wailing and suburban brat weeping. My girlfriends disagreed.
See! That's how you cover that song! And he even played the guitar while he sang it. That extra bit of authenticity that James doesn't have. I'm showing this to my girlfriends later
I like Haley too and especially liked her Janis Joplin, though it was a little restrained. That's my biggest problem with all the singers. They're too restrained. I never feel they
get the songs they're singing. Except Jacob, who is too unrestrained with his voice. Jacob was actually good with Man in the Mirror. His over-emotional blubbery had become tiresome in the past few weeks and he changed it up. I liked how he didn't want to sing that other song because it was too dirty and then during the performance was pelvic thrusting the backup singer. He should be booted soon though in my opinion.
Pia should be upbeat. She probably had record labels banging on her door the next morning. Does American Idol have some kind of contract where they get first dibs on all contestants? I'd think they would. That girl has a future.
Anyway, Paul and Casey are more my style. But they'd be my second and third favourites if Emily Anne Reed hadn't been kicked out in like the second round.
