I hear what you're saying, missaddicted.

To be honest, I think Ken Warwick's and Nigel's comments pre-season turned me off. I'm trying, but I know I'll never get involved in the same way again. I'm not going to vote. I mean, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Besides, the show itself - as a TV show - doesn't interest me that much. I tune a lot of it out. The contestants are what I'm interested in - and this year, I can't seem to get into them. I have tried - like with Durbin - but I don't see any I really

Yes, it's true Iovine gets to know the kids, and is a true mentor.

I have to go to bed but I'll continue this, probably...

Another not so bad show, some good moments, some great music. Now for the reviews...

Scotty - Elton goes country? I know this kid has a great country voice and it is his niche but one time I would like to see him do something, well, not country. I am sure he will stay for a while though, nowhere else for the country fans to put their votes. I'm sort of biased but I do not like country music, especially with the twang.

Naima - It was certainly different. I own almost every Bob Marley album and am a big fan of Reggae so I liked it a bit but didn't get the connection to Elton John. She has tried something new and improved each week but I don't think enough people connect to her, or her style, or her risks.

Paul - This was actually one of Paul's better performances for me but still can't jump up and down over it. He seems to think he is much cooler and more popular than he is. Quite right that his voice sems to be losing power each week, he might have peaked in Hollywood week.

Pia - I believe if you check back I called her as the winner in week 1. Not to brag but I had an inkling with her powerful vocals and likability she would go far. At least this week she moved even if it was only a few steps. I too have become bored of the smae style every week but she can sing the pants off of almost everyone else.

Stefano - Wow, Stefano has eyes...I was beginning to think he lost them as a child. I did not like the arrangement, the phrasing, or the vocal. Is it matter of we get to have him look at us or have him sing? I think he might get some big votes from the teen girls and that may keep him with us.

Lauren - This was probably her best yet. A great song and she seemed to feel it. I actually liked her this week and think she will stay though might be near the bottom of the vote. I am still waiting for that WOW moment from her and if we don't get it soon....bye-bye.

James - He has so much fun out there it's infectious. Really hard not to like him even if he is off key a bit. the flaming piano was one of the coolest things from Idol ever. He will be with us for a while because people like to watch him and he seems to pull a new rabbit from the hat every week.

Thia - I thought she might choose something more uptempo. I too like her voioce and tone a lot and would prefer her to Pia if it was a battle of the ballads. I'm not sure if the voters or the judges really connect with her and this could be her demise.

Casey - Nice to see him so much more restrained than he has been. Still got a little growl near the end but I thought it was a really good choice and well done. I hope he stays but if people haven't gotten his cooooolness yet the save may have been wasted. I think he will be okay this week as there were af ew poor performances but he has got to show of his stuff every week from now on.

Jacob - I still feel the power i his voice and the emotion he gives to his songs but 'The FACES' as somebody already mentioned. He does go over the top. He could use his power without all the attached drama and do far better. I liked him early but t is getting so repetitive.

Haley - Definitely the best overall performance of the night. She surprised me this week and left me wanting to see her again just to see if she can do it again. I like the Stevie Nicks huskiness in her singing and she is starting to grow on me a bit more now she is coming out of her shell. she probably moved up quite a bit in the voting after this. Of course she did have the benefit of one of Eltons best ever songs.

I am surprised no-one chose Goodbye Yellow Brick Road as that is probably the best Elton song IMHO but there were some good choices tonight that fit the singer.

I have to agree with Missaddicted on the four possibles to go, Naima (most likely) Paul & Stefano (one or the other), and maybe Thia as she keeps getting slammed by the judges.

So do you think last season was so boring because nobody thought of having a flaming piano, or Hulk Hogan? Next week, strippers, and monster trucks!!

I prefer this season to last season for several reasons. First, the judges don't take as much place in the show as they did last year. And I really hated Simon's attitude last season, it made me enjoy the show less. Also, I find the contestants generally more likeable this year. Katie Stevens and Big Mike were not the most likeable people ever on that show. Crystal was good, but she wasn't super likeable either. Lee and Casey were just kind of there. I don't know, I like the kind of positive vibe that surrounds the show this year. I can't say I'm super excited about the show and I'm not really involved in anyone (which actually makes it easier to enjoy the show, it's less stressful!), but I find it enjoyable and it's enough for me.

ETA:

WOOT! New Cook single to be released on April 19!!! The song is called The Last Goodbye and he co-wrote it with... Ryan Tedder.

Oh well, I'll be in the corner right there trying to adopt a "let's wait and see" attitude.

I think in a lot of ways it's better than last season, but both seasons seem so far down from seasons 7 and 8, you have to kind of wonder what happened.

Simply, what's not there this year is excitement. It's a competition. I think Tyler said something to someone last night - Paul? - like, "You've already made the tour so it really doesn't matter." What happened to, "Do you want to win this show?"

Simon was the opposite and I didn't like him a lot, but he was one of the original brains behind the show - he knew that it was all about creating suspense, making people care. Even when he made us hate him, he got us involved. If he gave a good critique, we breathed a sigh of relief.

Even without him, there can be suspense if the performers seem competitive. If there's a performance so good you know no one can top it, then someone comes out and tops it. I've been missing that kind of thing. But I guess it's early.

Yeah, that's a good point. I think this cast is more likeable. I think last year's cast was a let-down, talent-wise, too - but last year at this time we didn't really know that, for sure. I kept hoping for improvments. They seemed to have potential. Maybe they didn't - but they seemed to. I think this year they're more polished or seasoned (some of them) and maybe that's why I don't anticipate great growth. That, and the fact that several seem incredibly set in their ways, musically. Some seem to do one narrow thing very well - and seem to intend to keep on doing it.

That's great about Cook!

Also, I'm enjoying Jimmy's input more and more. He sees them every week, so he knows what they've been doing, contrary to a weekly mentor. And he seems honest and firm. Also, even though most of the contestants are not my cup of tea, they don't actually make me cringe

Me too. I'm really liking his input as he gets to know them. It will make it really interesting when they put out their winner's album since he will already have a firm grasp on who they are as artists. Plus I think the along the way stuff is interesting too, since he's not afraid to say the tough stuff that they sometimes need to hear and so few mentors feel comfortable giving.

Whoot David got a single!!! ... Ryan Tedder... yay.... (Ryan's had some huge hits so it could be a good thing -- crossing my fingers for them)

Well it is still (top 11) At this point last year we were dealing with Miley Cyrus as a mentor. Seriously, those poor season 9 peeps.... they got crapped on so much.

Also looks like Kris will be at Idol tonight. The American Idol twitter said they'd try to talk to him.

(maybe he's just at the offices then.. )

KRIS! in audience! Whoot. Okay 5 seconds of Whoot! But I takes what I can get. ;)

Results show:

Duets!! I like, I like.

Lauren and Scotty were really good together, Naima sang the best I've heard her sing with Jacob (Jacob not so much), Pia sang something contemporary!! (And sounded really good while doing it), The Band on the Run was terrible..LOL.

I'm happy Paul squeezed through tonight, probably only surprised Stefano wasn't lower in the voting. Not a shocking results night. I'm okay with it. #gohaleygohaleygohaley

Eh, I think in the music bizness any wannabe is glad to meet and be mentored by someone who sells out arenas and sells millions of records. Paint salesmen and waitresses can't afford to be snobs, can they?

Anyhow - that was a good results show. The band was cute and pathetic. Scotty and What's Her Name were good.

I don't think I was very surprised by the results. I was surprised so many people (online) thought Sefano would be eliminated.

probably only surprised Stefano wasn't lower in the voting.

I thought he was better than the three who were bottom 3.

Yay Kris! At least Ryan named him, he completely ignored Carly Smithson a couple of weeks ago.

I loved the duets/groups as well! Forget the season, just put the Casey-James-Stefano-Paul band on air and I'd be happy! I liked it anyway.

I'm sure they made sure that Pia was singing something contemporary tonight (I thought she was somewhat awkward), especially considering her old school, boring song choice for next week, ugh!

So, all 6 guys are still in there and only 3 girls left! I was not surprised about Paul, Stefano probably got a boost from last week's trip to the bottom three. Paul will probably get a boost next week. But I don't want either Paul, Stefano or Casey to be the first guy to go, I want Jacob gone, damn it!

#gohaleygohaleygohaley

I kind of want to root for her as well, now, how odd!

I blame Slezak.

From Slezak on twitter:

"Kris Allen is tending! I repeat: Kris Allen (aka #KrisAllen) (aka @KrisAllen) (aka Kris M*%#^%$*@%#*& Allen) is trending! Must be the hair."

Hee!!

I hate talking about hair, but please, Kris, please, get a haircut!!!

I don't know who that is (maybe that's why he didn't name her? lol).

Kris is still trending on twitter (at 11:00 EST). Since the show is just starting on the W. coast, I suppose he'll trend all over again. I just thought of something. Fantasia performed tonight and she's not even trending. :(

I just can't take Haley. I didn't like her last night - I find her very fakey. I think she's putting on a performing style. She's awful, imho.

I do like Thia. I think she's sweet, and I like her voice. I think she's pretty classy.

I hate talking about hair, but please, Kris, please, get a haircut!!!
Maybe cutting his hair impedes the creative process. lol. I never think Kris looks as good with his hair long - not sure why he lets it grow out - let's just hope he doesn't shave it.

Carly Smithson was on season 7, she finished 6th. Of course, she didn't win, but when she was in the audience, she was sitting beside somebody that Ryan introduced and he didn't introduce her at all, while she was super visible on camera, it was weird.

LOL, yeah, maybe Kris needs long hair to be creative. Then, don't cut it Kris! I guess it's just because he doesn't have that much hair on top of his hair that long hair doesn't really fit him.

Okay, that's all I'm going to say tonight about Kris' hair, LOL.

Aww, that picture with the top 11 and Kris is super cute!

Oh, yeah - I read about that! I always forget who she is.

Kris's hair just never looks good long - and it's not really even very long. He's like Jacob - he only looks good with short hair, also.

And that's all I'm going to say about it.

Fortunately, as you well know, the Idoldome was also graced with the presence of Kris Allen, Season 8 Champion and Mensch of the First Order. After taking his seat next to his unspeakably beautiful wife (seriously, I’ve met her in person, and Kris got the deal in that marriage), Kris began systematically approaching, hugging, and enthusiastically engaging with every last member of the Idoldome family, from Fox’s on-site photographer to production assistants to hulking bodyguards. He was mensching it all over that joint; even Smirkelstiltskin swooned a bit, despite Kris’ trip-back-to-1992 hair.

I didn't understand the reference to his hair being 1992.

Because this is what I think of when I think about guys hair and the early 90's. (Beverly Hills 90210) I guess it does sort of look like that.

That Adam B. Vary article was so much about Kris - who didn't even perform, he just was there. That was cool. It was also fun that he trended for so long. More, actually, than his fellow winner, Fantasia, who gave a performance. That was kind of weird. But I'm not complaining.

LOL his hair does look a little 90210. We're all fixated, and Kris couldn't give a damn.

Love the Mensch comments.

I kind of want to root for her as well, now, how odd!

Isn't it funny? I think she might be my fave at the moment.... I know.. surprises me too. We'll see. It might not last. I can be fickle.

Right now, I'm thinking that I might as well root for the girl I don't have any expectations about, since the two guys I thought would be great (Casey and Paul) are, well, not that great. Anyway, Haley will probably be gone in maximum two or three weeks (a guy at least has to leave before her!), so I don't have expectations about that either! I don't see myself rooting for Scotty, Lauren, Jacob (ugh!!!) or Pia, and I'm still very unsure about Stefano and James.

BTW, I was right about Paul's voice not being in a good shape. I read this week's EW interview with Michael Orland and Debra Byrd and they said that his voice was very tired. Interestingly, they also said that about Pia. It's still early in the competition, I wonder if her voice will hold up.

So, Kris had an interview today with VH1... for a Behind the Music special for Adam Lambert??? That's kind of lame.

Also lame? Will.I.Am helping the contestants choose their songs for next week. Will.I.Am doesn't know anything about music, how is he supposed to help them?

I honestly thought you guys were kidding about Haley. But I see...you weren't.
Other than her ditziness, her vocal mannerisms don't totally work for me, and I guess her voice doesn't, either. I'm fickle, too, though. :)

That's not surprising about Pia and Paul - I thought Pia sounded like she was forcing it, the last two times. I guess they've sung a lot, for a year Paul supposedly does a hundred or a couple hundred shows a year, with his band, so it's too bad his voice chose to give out now, when he only has to do one song a week. Of course, pressure could have a lot to do with it, too, don't you think?

Considering I want Kris info - it's lame :) but hey it's on tv.

Maybe they're finding it easier to get mentors off camera..?? or in exchange for the mentors performing on the show, they throw some advice the kids way? Either way I'm actually looking forward to Jimmy's advice. Will i am has to be a marketing genius though.. cause the songs get way too much airplay on their own merits.

I honestly thought you guys were kidding about Haley. But I see...you weren't.

Totally not kidding. I even bought the single. :D She's got some qualities that remind me a little bit of Carly Rae (who annoyed the crap out of me on CI, but who I've bought multiple singles post Idol)

Paul had a couple of revealing tweets post show last week, (for me anyway) he tweeted that

Time for bed! I've got some work to do for next week. I need to quit writing songs and focus on this tv stuff! Goodnight!

So maybe he's been focusing on his own music creatively instead of focusing on the song he's singing on the show at the moment? I don't know, I hope his voice can last, and he can work it out, because I did really like him.

Okay. I guess you're not kidding. :) Carly Rae doesn't really appeal to me, either. But not for the reasons Haley doesn't.

Jimmy Iovine - I mean, I don't mind him, I just don't look forward to him. He's there, I wait for him to get off the screen and the singing to begin. Not that I don't think I can't learn something. I would probably rather see him interviewed, that might be interesting.

For vocals, I like live recordings - and studio recordings that don't have much production. (Doesn't apply to electronic or dance music, of course.) I haven't liked the overproduced sound of vocal records for some time, now, so I think I'm prejudiced against the music producers and the labels, in many ways - I think I bring that to my reactions to Jimmy.
