YouTube - Lee DeWyze at Millions of Milkshakes in Westfield Culver City Mall

Seems like he didn't keep the Ford Fusion...is that a Mustang?

SleepinIn, I haven't forgotten I'm supposed to do those profiles of the contestants.

Here's a start:

Paul. Okay, here's the thing (as Kara used to say). Aside from his vocal problems, I'm kind of on the fence about his personality. He's kind of too much of a charmer. The kind of guy that for some reason women do find charming and men feel kind of uncomfortable about. That's probably unfair.

His voice reminds me more of Cat Stevens than anyone else I've heard him compared to. (I like Cat Stevens.) Anyhow, it's more his musical persona, than his voice, that doesn't get me excited. Musically, I think he's kind of...old-fashioned? His song choices have not been anything I really like, and overall he doesn't seem as quirky to me as the judges say. Just kind of...lacking in uniqueness and spark. I think he has some star quality, though. Still, I think I'm being way too hard on him, all the time.

Casey. This is tough, too. Maybe his age enters into it, but to me he comes off as slightly too cute-and-clever, musically, and as a performer (mainly, as a performer). There's something about this type of performer that makes me feel I'm watching a high school play, and this kid is the cleverest one in it. And everyone knows it - and he knows it. At first it's good, then it becomes monotonous if I don't see any maturity. Like, show us inside yourself - your soul. Not easy on American Idol, I know. Ha. But see how he reacted when he was saved? - that was more compelling to me than his singing. If he can get some of that reality into his singing, he'd be more than just a dancing bear, to me.

Okay, that's all right now.

I think it's the same jacket. Lee is about the same height as Kris, I think, but heavier, so it fits tighter.

Never mind - it's not.

Oh good! More please.

Still, I think I'm being way too hard on him, all the time.

I'm way too hard on him too. But, that's because I see something in him that I want him to bring out.. and so far it hasn't come out ..or maybe hasn't come out the way I want it to.

Also Kris's jacket is just as ugly as Lee's. Fire that fashionista! whoever they have helping them, because there is just no way that Lee or Kris picked that out alone.

I don't know if I'm too harsh on him too sometimes, but yeah, I was definitely expecting way more out of him. His voice being in a bad shape probably doesn't help though.

Or maybe it's not there? Good first impressions, but not much there, in the end? Well - guess we'll find out. His voice being in bad shape, it really is hard to tell, you're right.

SleepinIn, I just read on MJs that Lukas Rossi is going to be competing on The Voice.

!!! I just saw that! I'm super excited to see him because I think he's really, really talented and a little sad for him that Rockstar didn't give him the boost that was expected. Rockstar: Supernova as much as I loved the show and the singers - was a bit of a trainwreck in regards to the band. I mean they knew there was another band by the name of Supernova when they started the show.. they knew they couldn't use it..and it's a lame name tbh.. and yet they wouldn't let it go, and so ended up making a lame name even lamer. By calling themselves Rockstar:Supernova - really? that's the best you can do? Everything else that happened with them just kind of followed that pattern.

Anyway.. now I have to watch The Voice 8-O

Did you see all the @Chrisaphoto Photo's from the OK puppy photoshoot? So cute!

Jacob. First he talks about how much the song means...then he does hip-thrusts. Because Man In The Mirror is about hip-thrusts.

He performed this as a fun, light song - kind of a peculiar interpretation. Aside from my Kris memories, I didn't like this on its own terms. Isn't he supposed to convey the meaning of the song - especailly, this song? Also didn't like what he said, before song - though I don't remember it, now.

Haley - She's kind of young for this, maybe. She's shouting more than singing, and she's out of breath. I don't find it pleasant. I find her corny. Sorry.

Casey - I don't like his singing voice, so it's always hard to say much - he does the growly thing well. He sounds best when he does that. It's exciting. The rest of the singing is very mediocre, though. He doesn't hit all the notes and when he does he sometimes sounds mighty thin.

I guess rockers call the bass the "upright bass" to distinguish it from the electric bass, which they call "the bass". Is that clear now?

I think Lauren has a great voice, she does hit her notes, she has a great tone, and means what she sings - and she seems nice. I appreciate hearing someone who can sing, up there. I've liked her for a while now. Hope she lasts, especially after Simon - er, I mean, Randy - gave her such a tepid critique.

James. Why do they back-light his ears? So they'll glow?! Anyhow, I think this song brings out a lot of his shortcomings. He kinda hits notes - he kinda has a singing style. He throws in a gratuitous wail on the last note. To the judges this was a moment and to me.. it wasn't. I don't think he's mature as a singer. He needs singing lessons. He could improve.

Scotty. Girls onstage - "Where did they come from?" says Seacrest. I think they came from Nigel. Very well staged. (OMG, Randy, shouting, is SOOOO annoying. STFU, Randy, will you??)

As for the number - it was slightly less dynamic than Elvis...lol. I do like this guy's voice - but he always reminds me of singers on the old Lawrence Welk show.- basically, people with good voices, no real performance style - and very square. He seems really nice, hard not to like his wholesome, American self. But I don't think I'm buying his music. He'll probably win.

Pia. Doing Tina Turner? Okay - I like the hair off the face. "YO, PIASINITTOWINITRYAN!!!!" says Randy. She has the pipes. She sounds like she's on a record (as does the equally dull Scotty). She's talented - I just don't feel nothing. Anything.

Stefano looks kind of like a cross between Ralph Macchio and Scott Baio tonight. Randy had a very good point - or, at least, he said what I was thinking. Just sing it straight - maybe even sing it soft - add the runs later - for effect - if you must. You gotta build the song. Stefano has a pretty great voice (though I don't love it, personally) but he doesn't, at this point, understand how to get the best effects, in his performance. Some people seem to know this instinctively and some need to learn it. But he's wasting a lot of what he's putting out, thinking he's killing it - when he's not constructing the performance. It's full throttle from the beginning. He needs to draw us in first.

Paul. I missed it. I had to do something.

Okay so they're not having mentors this season right? Right. :) Mentoring seems to going into overdrive. Suddenly we've got Will.i.am. (who has eyes OMG!), Gwen Stefani and then Ryan Tedder comes into play. They put the Tedder into play. But there are no mentors this season. Not one. LOL.. Actually Will was pretty decent.

Jacob - Singing with the writer of the song...GOLD, I still really hate the runs that he does, and yeah I still like Kris's version better.. but it wasn't bad.

Haley - I thought she sounded really good. The only issue I have with this is that although the judges want you to sing something because your voice reminds them of someone - sometimes that's exactly who you shouldn't sing because you don't want to be compared with that person's version. That said she sang it like a rock song. Much appreciated Haley. I liked it a lot.

Casey - Bass is back baby...The electric rain is just pure lolz. This seems to be more like Casey's actual style. I thought he was a pitchy to be honest. I like him, but.. but.. I'm conflicted now

Also

Dear Randy upright bass is still not all that cool. Lol. It can be interesting tho.

Lauren - She's got a killer voice, and I just really like her.. but was that rocky?

James - I liked this and I think the studio is going to be really good but it was pitchy tonight until that end note - on CI Drew had a ton of emotion in his voice when he sang it and James didn't come close to that, I think James's voice is potentially stronger .. okay.. no I went and looked and although he didn't have the staging Drew killed this one. Also James has been working on that version for 5 years?

YouTube - Drew Wright top 5 While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Scotty is boppin in the studio - lol also more Elvis...Jaydee flashback #23467

Kids got charisma tho. Scotttty. Fake mobs are cheesier than fake arm waving...

Pia - She could sell some records tbh, she's got a voice and a half. Not exactly rockin out tho...or just me? I'm not a Mariah, whitney or celine fan...thought it was really good tho.

Stefano - strong voice.../ Stefano is the male pia for me. I don't know...The two of them have really strong vocals but for me lack the I don't know what it is..

Paul -- I didn't love it, but it was really entertaining.

Looks like these peeps are going to have fun on tour. :)

Going home...Jacob..? Casey?

If Lauren goes home because of the lackluster Randy comments, I will be annoyed - though of course, being country, she's a threat, of sorts, to the Golden Boy.

Yeah - that was a Drew high point (can't listen to it now, but I remember it). Drew says on twitter that he and the band are laying down some tracks, by the way. Imho Drew had the best voice of the Top 3, and I liked his musical taste on the show. Or I liked his ability to sing a lot of different styles. I wish he would do this now, actually.

Which reminds me, when Casey was singing tonight, Mookie came into my mind for a second, and I started to compare Casey to Mookie. And Mookie came out on top. lol. It's unfortunate there's nobody in this group who's anything like Earl, though - when you think about it. It's not even anything I can imagine in this kind of group.

Those girls coming onstage was so cheesy. You know if that really happened, security would be all over them like white on rice.

Earl.. I love Earl. No joke. There is no one that was ever like Earl. I always loved Drew's taste in music, although I don't think I always loved him, that performance however was magic.

I hope that none of the girls go. They don't deserve to be in the bottom, I don't really want Casey to go yet.. but I think he was one of the weakest tonight. I mean no one tonight was horrible for me so I'm being nitpicky. I'm kinda ready for Jacob to go.

What is your favorite Canadian Idol performance of all time?

Watching the local Fox news...The anchors don't like Haley. "How does she keep lasting?" Idol guy liked her. [Btw, back in Season 8, the achors both liked Kris - especially the guy - it's a guy and a woman. The Idol guy didn't, or so I seem to recall.] Idol guy thinks Pia is "awful," and a still just a "wedding singer," Stefano is "boring," and tonight Paul didn't do justice to "badass" Johnny Cash, with his "Rod Stewart" voice, and looks, "like Kenny Loggins in tight jeans."

LOL. I don't think I watched the same show as you guys, because I kind of loved it! Yeah! (Well, except Jacob... and Pia)

All the idols dancing at the end and making Ryan dance was just a great unplanned moment that gave life to what is usually quite a stiff moment in the show, I loved it.

Jacob: Jacob, if you end up in the bottom three, it won't be for whatever stupid and cocky reason you gave before your performance, it'll be because your voice is unpleasant and your faces are too much. Dare I hope that you performing first and the overall good performances by everybody (IMO) will finally send you home? Please?

Haley: I loved it. LOVED it.

Casey: I loved it as well.

(BTW, I think upright bass is cool... but I'm a nerd, so I'm probably not that cool to start with!)

Lauren: She's growing on me. As long as she doesn't talk. Like Slezak said during Idoloonies, I really enjoy the vocal choices that she makes. She makes the vocals both unpredictable and natural at the same time. I appreciate that.

James: I prefered Drew's version as well (pretty much the only thing I enjoyed from Drew actually, didn't think much of his voice otherwise), but I liked it. I probably prefer entertaining crazy James though, but I did feel his emotions during that song.`

Scotty: I was so scared before he started... I had such bad Jaydee flashbacks coming in my head. But, I enjoyed Scotty a lot! Kind of reluctantly, but I did! At least, it wasn't a boring country song. Way to go Scotty!

Pia: Ugh, Pia. I'm so SO disappointed in that girl. She doesn't seem to have a creative bone in her body. As I expected her to, she did the Céline version of that song, note for freaking note (and I know, I listened to the Céline version A LOT when I was a kid, no kidding). The Céline version is kind of a ballad sung over a disco beat, it's like a fake uptempo song. And Pia was still rooted on one spot and when she decided to move, she walked gently around the judges platform. She has a killer voice and she's a beautiful girl (and she shouldn't wear stupid outfits like she did tonight, who told her she looked good in THAT?!?), but I don't think she has anything else to offer. Then, she'll probably the perfect little pop star that 19 are looking for. Good voice, good look, will do whatever is asked of her. UGH!!!

Sorry, rant over. I just WANT to like her, but I really can't.

Stefano: I thought it was his best performance in weeks.

Paul: Yeah! YEAH! That's what I've been expecting from Paul for weeks now! I LOVED it! My favorite of the night for sure.

Fave CI performance of all time? I kind of only remember seasons 5 and 6 properly, but I really don't know what I would choose even then!

From an interview Shirley Halperin did with the infamous Ryan Tedder:

THR: What about David Cook, did he voice any concerns coming into this second record?

Tedder: I think a concern that anybody might have with working with me after "Already Gone," "Apologize," and "Halo" is that I’m going to give them this huge sweeping ballad. Even on Adam's last album, I gave him "Sleepwalker," but I'm kind of over that. I got sick of it about a year-and-a-half ago and stopped. David was, like, "I want to do something uptempo," so his first single, “The Last Goodbye,” you would never know that I wrote it. It’s really emotional and it hits you with the chorus about 40 seconds into the song, so it's just immediate.

THR: And how is David as a co-writer?

Tedder: Great, more than any singer I've worked with, he contributed enormously lyrically and musically – he can play, he knows voicing, chords and arrangements as well as lyrics. He's a full-on writer. I love David, he’s a great guy.

Ryan Tedder On Working with Adam Lambert, David Cook and Season 10 Finalist Stefano Langone - Hollywood Reporter

Well, I'm kind of reassured for now, thank you Ryan Tedder.

Ok so I just finished watching the show and this is gonna be a tough week to let someone go. A few outstanding performances and a whole buch of others that were all as good as each other.

Jacob - I thought this was probably his best job since God Bless the Child in Hollywood. Restrained, no funny faces, no wild runs. Not a fan of MJ but he didn't hurt himself with this.

Haley - second best performance of the night for me. This girl is geting stronger and coooooler every week. She brought great emotion and her voice really fits Janice. Of course Janice is one of my all time fav's so I couldn't help but like it.

Casey - coool is back with this guy. he kinda got lost for a couple of weeks and it almost cost him but it seems like he may be back in the groooove. I can see him in a dinner jacket and shades with that bass packing em in. May not have the best overall voice but certainly more than makes up for it in artistry. Still worried that not enough people get Casey.

Lauren - I'm not so sure about her. Definitely showing stronger vocals and has gotten over her nevousness but just didn't bring enough soul to a classic Aretha song for my taste. It was ok and I think she will be safe but I was a little unexcited after the first few notes.

James - Wow, wait, I mean WOW. He didn't hit all the notes perfectly but he sang it with such emotion and feeling.I definitely rank this as number 1 tonight. A great time to change up to a ballad for him as everyone else was changing to rock, I think this was well planned to keep him as the 'different' one. Nice to see another side of James too.

Scotty - Ok, proved me wrong, I thought he was pure country but I guess not. He did a not so bad Elvis imitation (doesn't quite have the hips down) and gave us more range than I thoought he had in him. Made me laugh a bit and almost stomp my feet. Gawd I hate to admit that.

Pia - I have been complaing that she should do something more rock for 2 weeks and now she gave it...Pleeeease give me a ballad! At least stand still when you sing. She is so awkward moving around I almost started laughing. I hate to say it but if she doesn't stick to her power ballads she might lose that air of perfection the judges seem to give her. Props for trying but can we have Whitney back.

Stefano - I didn't get it. A motown ballad on rock night??? I think this may be it for him. Real pitchy at the start and wierd phrasing. He had a few nice notes but this just was not there for me. Wasn't motown week back a couple of shows?

Paul - I have been hard on Paul and actually been rooting for him to leave but he did a great job tonight. No strange dancing, no arrogance, just a rock'n performance without over-singing it. IMHO was probably #3 on the totem pole tonight. Damn I hate it when someone proves me wrong....

Possible vote offs - Stefano, Casey, Lauren....hope its Stefano.

Now that I read some other reviews I gotta mention I would probably vote off Jacob just for the cocky statement...bad move on his part.

This season is not good at all, and one of the worst seasons :-(. And as I said before, some of contestants are being cockey as hell.

Jacob explained why he chose to sing Man in the Mirror, and he said, “if I end up in the bottom three it won’t be because I sang the song bad . . . it will be because everybody in America wasn’t ready to look at themselves in the mirror.”

So if he doesnt make it through to next week it's not his fault, it's everyone elses? Oh please!!! You are not THAT good!

James was being an egomaniac as usual and made this comment. “It’s a song I’ve worked on for five years and written my own version — and that’s mine, that’s my accomplishment.”

How is George Harrison's song James Durbin's? Because it took him five years to re-arrange the song? Give me a break :confused3: .

Yeah, this comment was just so incredibly stupid. If I didn't dislike him so much even before that, I would've started to dislike him right there when he made that comment.

On the whole though, I'm enjoying this season. I watch the TV show, I read Slezak's recaps and watch Idoloonies, and I read the Grassy Knoll on TWoP, but that's it. I like that I can just enjoy the show, almost being a casual viewer instead of an invested one.

She has a killer voice and she's a beautiful girl (and she shouldn't wear stupid outfits like she did tonight, who told her she looked good in THAT?!?),

I read somewhere that Gwen Stefani dressed them last night. Eeep.

Jacob explained why he chose to sing Man in the Mirror, and he said, “if I end up in the bottom three it won’t be because I sang the song bad . . . it will be because everybody in America wasn’t ready to look at themselves in the mirror.”

Thanks for the exact quote. What a dumb thing to say. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. I'm not ready to pillory him for one stupid thing, though. But his performances have not satisfied me at all, so I don't care if he goes. Seems like a nice guy overall.

Thanks for the info about Pia and the Celine song, missaddicted. I haven't heard that anywhere else. Of course, it makes sense that she would do that - being Pia.

I thought last night was one of the better nights, as well - though I may not have conveyed that in my post. Because overall I have to agree that...

This season is not good at all, and one of the worst seasons .

For me it's about finding a couple of individuals to get excited about - or one, at least - that's what this show (and CI) have been about, for me. If I'm not excited to see my favorites, I'm not that excited to tune in. This is especially true for AI, where I can vote. It's an audience-participation talent show, after all. Still, I enjoyed CI without being able to vote (but I only watched one season of CI live, anyway).

There's a quality of musicianship that I'm missing this season - The show seems to be about theatricality or presentation, rather than music. I think I would feel this even if I didn't know that Nigel told us to anticipate more "presentation."

The arrangements - ho hum. They don't capture my attention, and the band doesn't, either. I didn't think I would miss Ricky Minor but I think I must. I really don't care for the way the music sounds - and I used to. It had a cleaner sound the past couple of seasons than it seems to have, now.

Wow, Pia is gone. As much as I wasn't a fan of hers, I'm shocked! I guess I'm not the only one who feels that we don't need another Céline/Mariah/Whitney. Still, I was so thrilled when Ryan almost said that Jacob was eliminated. He really had to go. Him or Stefano.

Still all 6 boys left and only 2 girls. I'm definitely rooting for Haley now. Again, I was not a Pia fan and she bored me, but I never felt that she deserved to go this early.

Gwen Stefani has no taste whatsoever. Seriously.

Iggy Pop + Idol stage = my mind blown. What the hell was that? LOL.

Constantine Maroulis is kind of creepy.
