Re: Twitter - maybe if their season of Idol had been this year? I just don't think anyone in Canada is aware that they are tweeting. lol. We're a celebrity phobic society for the most part -- unless you are from elsewhere then we can go nuts without restraint. How can you get excited about someone you see on the subway? lol - Plus they haven't been touring, but holed up in the studio so the promotional push is on hold really.
I lol'd at the italicized part. I was pretty surprised when I started following CI because after a while I discovered there was not this whole stalkerazzi mentality in Canada, this whole branch of the press or whatever, that makes a living covering celebrities. I mean, it exists, right? There's eTalk, and so forth. But on a much smaller scale, overall. I'm assuming.
I once suggested to a Canadian online friend who's a Kalan fan that it might be good for Kalan to be seen out on the town with some young ladies (good publicity for his career, keep him in the public eye). And my friend responded that he could go out with anybody he wanted but nobody was going to take his picture and if they did where would they publish it?
AI from the beginning, but the music choices... not really my thing. CI started and there was this guy called Billy Klippert -- who was my original fave since he went to the rock side, and I loved him for it. I still like Billy actually - although I never hear anything about him. The next year was just so good Jacob always commanded attention, he just has that star quality, but the others that season were good too. I really thought that as a group season 2 of Canadian Idol beat AI's group of top tens. Maybe only to be surpassed in my mind by this years American Idol's top 10. Maybe introducing the instruments so early in CI's run (at least for the group number) played a part in that feeling for me.
CI felt right to me, AI never did, it seemed plastic. I don't know if it was the contestants or the show, or what. The only reason I watched this year is because there was no CI. I really wasn't into the show much, at first, and to be honest, if it weren't for Kris, I don't know. He was a genuine person I could latch on to.
When Kara talked about him helping some of the others during MJ week, I thought he was different. I almost think, if I'm not giving him too much credit, here, that he was a quiet force on that show this year. Like, he kept it real. Maybe not single-handedly, but even Simon was sort of powerless against him. He's very positive and it's amazingly effective.
This AI group is more like a CI group, even the music is more like CI this year (almost).
I think Billy Klippert is good, I've seen him (on CI2, and also some YouTube stuff). He should be more well known. I also think Ryan is good. At least he seems to be making a living at music, and having some interesting experiences.
Jacob's unpredictable and nuts and I guess it makes him a great performer! And he always gives it everything he's got. When/if he stops doing it that way, I hope he quits. Also, he has a way with a song that's like Kris in that he's just himself and there's no screen between him and the audience when he sings. It's direct to the audience. I love that.
