Season 10 supposedly saved American Idol but it seems to have had the opposite effect on this thread.

It's kinda hard for me to care about the S10 kids. Either they weren't my style of music or they weren't memorable, but it's like the minute the season was over I was movin' on. Glad they seem to be selling well.

I'm impatiently waiting for 2012's releases.. Kris, Haley, Adam.. Haley's very twitter quiet and I have to admit I don't seek out too much info on her, I'm still not sure what I'll think of her music - so there's that. I'm hopeful though. Kris and Adam aren't putting anything out til next year.. luckily next year is coming fast.

I haven't been watching X Factor it just seems so overblown.. and there are groups .. that don't include instruments.... ick.. not my thing.

Just saw on twitter that somebody is possibly going to sing LLWD on Star Academy (?) Possibly someone named Dion.

Yes, I saw that too! I think his name is Olivier Dion. Actually, he might not have to sing it. The 20 best have been chosen so far, but only 14 will make it. The first 10 that will be chosen by the judges won't have to sing, but the other 10 will have to sing so that the last 4 can be chosen (2 by the public and 2 by the judges). Anyway, that's the way it worked the previous years. It starts January 22.

Three singing competitions this winter! AI, The Voice and Star Académie. Phew! I was wondering the last few days if we would come back to the forum for the new season of AI. It seems that yes? What are you guys thinking?

I think so!! Yup. I think we need to get together around the campfire that is Idol.

Scotty's album, This Dull-As-Sh*t Morning (not the actual title) went platinum. I think it's been out 2 months. Discuss.

Yay! I'll ask SleepinIn if she wants to join us as well.

As for Scotty, I guess now we know why they wanted him to win so bad last year! Country fans still seem to buy more albums in general.

I'm in!! just had to remember my password. Lol! I'm kind of excited about Idol tbh, especially since the X Factor was a big fail for me.

I don't understand Scotty and his broad appeal, but it's good for the show anyway. Not for me, I'm afraid. :p

I'm not really excited about Idol...I don't like these judges...I did kind of like Paula and I didn't actually hate Kara...and though I hate Simon I enjoyed that he actually seemed to notice what was happening onstage and could sometimes accurately comment on it, unlike the three last year. Randy is...never mind. Who cares? lol

But anyway, I will be watching...and I AM kind of excited to be together again with you guys for another season! Albeit without any computer at the moment. Which might limit my participation slightly - like, on show nights. :(

I'm always totally amazed that out of all the people in the USA and considering what they pay, they can't find better judges for this show.

I guess Scotty is good for the show, SleepinIn. Just being a contrary mule for a moment though, I don't think he's good for the show in all ways. Like, his success might only encourage them to further limit the adult, creative, interesting talent that potentially could be appearing on this show and entertaining us week after week. My problem with Idol last season was that it seemed so dumbed down. I guess idol is already dumbed down quite a bit, so that's saying something. lol. But anyway maybe you know what I mean. :)

Yay, me too! Too bad about your computer ross, I'll miss your comments on the nights of the show.

Starts tonight, right? I'm kind of excited, but I know what you mean about the judges. It seems they didn't trust the viewers to be attracted by the contestants alone last year, so they had to go get two big stars to judge. I guess some casual viewers can be attracted to the show because of its judges, but not me. Randy is useless, Steven was great during the auditions last year, but he became useless once the live shows started. J.Lo was great at the beginning, she had some pretty good advice. But, at some point, it's as if she was told that she had to support only the contestants TPTB wanted and she stopped being relevant. Her hating on Haley was awful to watch.

Anyway, we'll see, I'll try to watch the beginning of the season with an open mind.

I'm kind of more excited for The Voice and Star Académie. The Voice was really fun last year. And they had some pretty great contestants. Too bad they didn't really support them after the show. And yes, in that case, the show is mostly about the judges/mentors, but it works and they have a great dynamic. And Star Académie hasn't been on the air for a few years now, so it should be fun... even though I know you guys can't see it.

And 2012 will probably bring a new album from Kris, no? We have that to look forward to!

Same here gang! Just so you know, I was formerly known as "alleywayzalwayz", you'll probably remember me contributing to this thread once and awhile. I'm looking forward to another season, especially the audition episodes because they're usually good for some laughs!

So lots of teens and good auditions, someone who lives in a tent in the woods and a guy in plaid, with a guitar, from the South. A promising, but not super exciting start. No one I can't live without.

Interesting that they put Colton through when he didn't sign up.....is that allowed? Lol. not sure I'd be thrilled if I was his sister because clearly they were a bit more interested in him.

But yay IDOL! ( Plus nightly lyric tweets from Kris ) I'm happy.

And the gang's all here :D

Yeah, no one too memorable tonight. Phillip Phillips (who names their kid like that? Yeah, I know his dad was also a Phillip Phillips) might be interesting, but I'm not convinced yet. The Colton siblings are pretty good too, but I actually don't really remember Colton from last year, so I guess he wasn't that memorable.

Too many little kids though. Ugh! Finish high school first kids, and then try out for Idol.

So, yeah, it was okay, but I agree that it wasn't a super exciting start.

I thought tonight's episode was another enjoyable season kick-off, with some interesting talent to watch for (how 'bout that 17 year old who looked like his 12?) and a good dose of voices to both laugh and cringe at. I would like to more entertained with auditions from eccentric-type characters aka "freaks", and the rest of the people who received golden tickets. At the end of program they paraded a bunch of interesting faces that we didn't get to hear! If the show has to play all night so we see every golden audition, then I say so be it! More! More! More!

LOL. Apparently, I called the siblings the "Colton" siblings instead of the Dixon siblings. Poor Schyler.

I'm actually glad we didn't get more of the "freak" auditions. I really don't need these, and I'd totally be glad if they showed us only the good auditions.

Oh-oh. I forgot to watch the show. Forgot it was on. I think I did the same thing last season. I know I said I would watch...and I'm gonna watch, I swear. I guess last season was so bad (for me, dog. For me) that I just don't get excited about seeing the show, now. Oh, well.

So I have no idea what any of ya are talking about. :)

Oh, okay, the real reason I couldn't watch is that I got into a drunken brawl with my boyfriend outside a gay bar in Finland (no, no really, I swear), and I happened to take a poke at Miss Finland by mistake. It wasn't really my fault, ya see, I was drinking a bit. And I had jet lag. THEY MADE ME DO IT!! Well, anyhow...now you know.

So far... Young, young, really young. *sigh* I feel old, lol. anyway everyone has been pretty good, young and sometimes tragic. I'm ready for Hollywood week :D

Is it bad that my first thought when they said they were airing after the game on Sunday was. - what game? In fact it still kind of is....lol.

and I think I will always call them the Colton siblings now, lol - and yeah agreed I'd like to see a few more golden ticket winners. why did they get tickets? Or are they giving out too many tickets?

Some surprises tonight! The Korean fella who auditioned first was unexpectedly good, and so was the dude who sang on stage with his parents since age two. Oh ya, forget to mention one thing from last night's episode: did you catch when Steven Tyler made the "heavy and hot, just like your daughter" comment to the father of a 15 year old! My jaw literally dropped! What a whacko!

I think they are probably giving out too many tickets. After all, we saw 11 (according to Slezak) golden tickets audition last night, it's a lot for a one hour episode! Remember when they used to show like 4 or 5 of them?

So yeah, I was glad to see pretty much only good auditions last night. I can't say anybody really impressed me that much, but there were some pretty good people.

There's really an episode Sunday night after the football game? Weird. I was wondering about that because my DVR is programmed to record AI anytime it's on, and I was like stupid DVR, why are you showing an episode of AI on Sunday! Apparently, it's a smart DVR!

So last night's very late episode was pretty much useless. My only observation is this one: Jim Carrey's daughter looks just like him.

I saw the spoilers for the Top 24, but I'm invested enough to go check them out individually. I'll wait to see how it turns out to be on the show.

After watching Steven Tyler butcher the yankee national anthem last evening, he has NO RIGHT to tell anyone on the Idol that they can't sing. Pitiful.
