Great, I just tuned in to Jim's Idol party and then I remembered this laptop has no sound, any more. Grr.
I don't like the actual song, Don't You Forget About Me, though I'm a big fan of 80's music, which is "my" music, after all, so I guess I should be. But I'm happy for David - and he has worked his butt off plus he's a great guy and musician, what more could you ask?
I am not totally happy with the way the Idols were chosen. It is what it is, but such a big cut after one performance - just a way for the producers to control who makes it through. I sometimes hate life, when I know there is more to talent than being big and showy on TV for 90 seconds. That is not so hard. What's hard is being an artist in 90 seconds. I'm not sure we have many artists, here - and I'm not sure anyone cares. It's like all entertainment now. Bigger, flashier, emptier.
Weighing in on James, and metal...I have the advantage here of having lived through a few eras of music so maybe I just realize there are trends. Mainstream music changes a lot. I can't even go into it. But things that used to be fringe are now mainstream, for ex. I remember how many metal bands were super popular in the 80's. Could that happen again? Dance music came back. Anything can come back. But anyway, I agree with what SleepinIn said, re James.
