I saw the letter, and yes they do have some really valid points, but I don't agree with all of it either, I think Jive has done some really great things for Kris too. So basically it's like any other major label. lol
I liked what Kris said to Bill "Santa Rosa Democrat" Pinella about how he has never turned down a concert/performance offer yet. (When Bill asked him how playing the place in SR with a capacity of 250 - something Bill can't seem to get over - compares to playing Golden Gate Park this summer to 20,000.)
This is something the girls who wrote that letter to Jive should understand. They seem bogged down in what people talk about online. Kris is working hard, happy, and making a lot of money, too. And here is Jacob, who can play arenas in Canada, playing that same venue, and opening for Kris. Are Jacob's fans upset? I don't think those kids really understand it's not all roses. I know that's not exactly what they were criticizing, but I think they're being reactive, especially reactive to the online fans of Adam - rather than trying to see the big picture. Kris not only will not always sell out, he won't even care - actually, it's all exposure, it's dues-paying, it's experience, and if he wants to make it, he's damn good and he'll make it, so don't worry about all the details. Overnight careers are very rare (and they very rarely last).
Anyway, people don't seem to really understand that venues are responsible for publicity also. Do they think all the acts who play at Nightclub X have a lot of record label people involved in publicizing that one small appearance? I doubt it.
I also think they may have been blaming Jive for some things that are more management-related.
Some of their points - especially about Alright With Me - I totally agree with. I agree with a lot of what they say about marketing. I agree it seems Jive doesn't know how marketable Kris is, which is really odd. We've said it here before. This is not a hard guy to push. They do push, yet they don't.
I also wonder if the suits ever attend concerts and see for themselves. I know they do when they're interested in signing bands, but do they get involved in checking out the progress of the artists? I don't know.
I followed Hedley pretty closely for a few years and one thing I thought is that their label had faith in them - the faith to gamble money and effort on them. I don't really see this kind of excitement happening with Jive and Kris, for a number of reasons. If Kris were just a new artist they discovered and not an Idol winner it would be different, I suppose.
Wow, I sure rambled incoherently that time.
