Who needs what kind of blood?

I guess it would be a bit stupid to not know your blood type.

I'm not stupid. I don't like needles.

Count me too stupid to know.

Just because you don't know doesn't make you stupid. It's not like it's something that the average person needs to worry about, after all.:)

If the person had a medical problem, then knowing their blood type would be more important.

Northern Ontario,
I just looked at blood types on Wikipedia and it looks like AB Negative is the rarest of all blood types.

I should add that with all the Positive and Negative aspects, there are a total of eight blood types.

I have O+ and my wife has AB- which meant that after our first child she needed to have a some kind of serum so that she wouldn't build up antibodies for the next pregnancy.
I don't remember too well....a long time ago....I think the injections were Gamma Globulin....
Anyway both kids ended up with my type.

I've been told before, I just can't remember.

I am familiar with that ... I had to be tested for that rejection possibility ... if the blood is incompatible, the fetus will be rejected, but can be a viable child if some sort of antidote is given.

That is a little bit of a mismatch, eh DaS?;)

There is one type that is able to be used for almost everyone, isn't there?

Who would have thought that blood types could cause something like that to happen?8O

I think there is one type of blood that is generically used, but for a fetus an incompatible blood type can result in miscarriage ... something about the blood being poisoned by the combination.

The first child a woman has is safe, which is why those needles are given right after the child is born to prevent the build up of antibodies.......I don't know the procedure now but years ago it was two big syringes holding about three ounces each given intramuscular...one in each buttuck......ouch!!!
I think if our first child had been negative it would have been OK..

I can give to anyone that is Positive but can receive only from O+ but here is plenty of that around....I think about 40% of the population???
O- is in big demand because not so many have it..

There's no easy to find disclaimer on this web page that says these bunch of hipsters are dolts. This web page is a waste of taxpayer dollars. In Asia, blood types are very important, they are a key factor in determining who you will marry. This garbage should be taken off the CBS website right away.

Reading the above posts, what the CBS needs is a fact page about blood.

O- may not be the absolute rarest, but if you are that type and you need blood....then it becomes the rarest for you.

I guess that's true. You wouldn't be able to use any of the other blood types. Too bad there wasn't one single blood type for all of humanity. It would certainly make things easier!

I think there is, I think AB is the universal donor.

O negative is the universal donor. AB positive is the universal recipient. O positive is the most common blood type.

Blood type - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Good, I had them switched and also was unaware the positive and negative was part of it, but then again back in the day when I got a smattering of knowledge about blood, there wasn't much that was known about blood. D.N.A. was unheard of.
