" Could be Worse... "

Yep.

Absolutely correct.

Either the socialists or the Liberals could be running the place.

God forbid.......

Could use that since it's true; any other place in the world pales in comparison to Canada. If you live here you have won the lottery.

Aside from some of the statements the country is not doing that well, This government
has actually put us more in debt and deficit than the Liberals ever did. The only saving
grace is the rest of the world is still treading water economically and that has allowed us
to stay in the shallow end of the pool.
If there is any down turn we will feel it harder than most.
The fact is giving tax breaks to the wealthy, instead they should begin to increase the tax
rates across the board and begin to pay the nations bills.
We have engaged in too many free trade deals with lop sided arrangements that allow
cheap goods to flood our markets and cause increased unemployment. No we should not
all be working for nothing, we should be ensuring that our industries and standard of living
is maintained.

I agree....Again...DB...Must be my age(maturity?;)) beginning to show..:)

I think so to...Let's keep it that way ...Hard to feel as though we won the lottery with The Harper Gov in charge....They seem to be taking the Country in the Wrong direction...Just imagine what will happen to our home and native land ..Glorious and Free Should Harper still be in power when the U.S. Republicans, or worse..The G.O.P.. Come to lead...along with China...Which at this moment in history, is the way it seems to be ..
Communistic Capitalism...Brrrr...Gives me the shivers..(and the s***ts)(Maybe just comin down with a Harper virus or something. Here's hopin it's not contagious and doesn't last long)

As hard as it is to be; right now..I am A proud Canadian..And At the moment ..A Prouder North American ..

I can't recall a time in my life when I seen more Social spending than under Harper. He's really taken the Liberal ActionPlan and the infrastructure program to new heights. Way to go comrade Steve!

Must be to be laying down the kind of capital require to build what is being built.

How else would Chinese labour be finding it's way to our shores?

Steve won't take Chinese investment in infrastrture because he's dealing with Maoists?

Can't be but why did he jump on the $160 Billion Action Plan cash Beijing coughed up in October?

An upright true to the Spastics fans would never do that would they?

This thread has to be a bit of a joke, is everyone totally unaware of the "Hungry 30s"? I listened to my parents talk about them..........they were real and they were harsh. Men coming to the door and begging for some work to around the house in exchange for a meal. When you look at the glut of fast food joints on every street and people streaming into them and then hear people complain it makes you want to puke. I acknowledge there is probably 10% of the population that are in "dire straits", but they know they don't have to go hungry. Canadians by and large are wallowing in "wealth".

GM which is 20% owned by you and me already took advantage of "right to work" laws and moved the Camaro plant from Canada to the US

GM moves Camaro line out of Canada | The Chronicle Herald

Do you think consumers will see any savings when buying a Camaro?

PS I've always giggled when the Camaro was called an "American sports car" when it was made In Canada. Same goes for the Corvette

Never been able to afford either.

Spent my life in OLD Dodge vans, VW's, and Hyundais.

Used Camaros weren't worth buying, what with being mostly rust and blown head gaskets.

moot point. GM managed to chuck more Canuks out of work. Blame the unions.............why not.

And how many of that 40% are there because of their own doing..............running up credit card debt, eating at Big Macs when they should be packing a lunch bucket?.....................Just for starters! Let's get more mileage out of what we have before whining for more.

True..we have to break "consumers"(hate that word) of their insatiable appetite for ever more......But you can blame a lot of that on ..Commercialism..Media..Boob Tube Education..Grey politics...Etc...Etc..

People just aren't finding the money like they used to....Debt is a form of Gov/Big Biz Control.
However; Times are changin....
People are catching on to all the useless brainwash, and Crap out there....Partly thanks to an, as of yet, still, relatively free, internet.www and a growing self awarness of all the "MONEY GAMES" played with peoples lives, by, The powers that be..

..( don't buy into the "Cell phone madness" ...It could end the freedom we still enjoy)

Times are changing...and for the better...

No worries JLM ...Looking into the future..all I see ..in the way of Consumerism/Commercialism...Are McDonalds..Walmart...Dollarama.
And a lot more,..
Green/Clean Tech....

The whole problem is the Conservatives got their majority and I think that will end with the
current mandate. The next election will prove most interesting as the current government
can blame no one for any errors or omissions. The jets are over priced and a mess is
building, and the cost of government is high because we got involved in conflicts, to appease
the Americans because we didn't go along with their North American Defences shield.
Canadians are going to be less happy as time goes on, as more military spending comes at
the expense of social programs. Yes social programs, people like them. When people find
out in the pocketbook about those cuts unhappiness spreads like spilled milk.
Old people are becoming less supportive all the time.
I think at best Harper will eek out a minority and will be lucky to do that. In fact I think if he
did get a minority a coalition would be possible to be rid of him.
All the talk about how well we are doing is not reflective of what is happening at all. This
government is doing two things. Spending more money on military projects and cutting programs
for all those folks who won't have them, that will be fertile ground for the opposition.
Remember we don't elect governments we throw them out.

Well, Grumpy, I think Harper will remain where he is as long as he wants unless the Libs can pull a credible leader out of thin air. If they can't then it will be a bigger majority than he has now. N.D.P. aren't going to gain any more than they have right now. Strength in Quebec alone just won't cut it and any changes in Quebec are going to be at a loss to the N.D.P.

What's going to save harper,if anything can,is the same thing that got him in,too many parties. If we had only two real parties like the yanks,he wouldn't stand as much of a chance as a tallow dog chasing an asbestos cat through hell.

I think you've nail Mr. Harper's problem right on the head with social programs. If people used Gov't funded social programs the same as they do when they fund them directly out of pocket, the problem would be much smaller-:)
