An update on price. Chapters had the book at $60 but URC is selling it for about $29.

I doubt Rempel is a originally from Newfoundland. He taught at Memorial for a few years. He's in Ottawa now.

Someday we shall trip and find ourselves face down in the same shit as everone else because it's down there, all ya have to do is trip. 8O

Wednesdays Child..........I like your "everchanging?? avatar" Beautiful is as beautiful does says Forrest Gump, and so far you do beautifully.

I made some real close personal up front special long lasting (you get the picture) friends from Newfoundland while working up in N. Ontario years ago. We played music together, drank together, and partied together. You knew your back was covered when you were with them. Plain spoken people who took no shit. We still write today. Great folks.

Most Newfoundlanders DON'T like to be called Newfie. Like calling a Frenchman a frog. Not nice.

And we are superior. Damn straight.

Thank you so much Nugly!!!

After reading some of the grumpies this morning I wish I had seen your post about my avatar sooner! It brightened my mood considerably!!!

I am nowhere near the ladies I post...but that is the fun of the forums - fantasy land!

Anyway - a compliment from you is wonderful! WC

Ahenakew lawyer says controversial conversation was private
Last Updated Mon, 03 Apr 2006 14:46:39 EDT
CBC News
The appeal of First Nations leader David Ahenakew – convicted of willfully promoting hatred against Jews – is really about the definition of a private conversation, claimed his lawyer.

Arguing before Saskatchewan's Court of Queen's Bench on Monday, lawyer Doug Christie said the conversation between his client and a reporter that led to Ahenakew's conviction was private.

Christie said his client, the former head of the Assembly of First Nations, was upset his remarks had been published. He told the court that if Ahenakew meant to spread hate, he would have enjoyed seeing his statements in print.

In December 2002, Ahenakew answered a reporter's question by suggesting that the Holocaust was a good thing and praised Adolf Hitler for having "fried" six million Jews during the Second World War.

The 72-year-old later apologized, but was convicted of promoting hatred.

The Canadian Jewish Congress, which has intervener status at the appeal, maintains Christie's argument threatens the integrity of Canada's hate laws.

The appeal is expected to last two days.

Ahenakew spoke with a journalist from the Saskatoon StarPhoenix after giving a speech to the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations in which he said Jews started the Second World War.

"The Jews damn near owned all of Germany prior to the war. That's how Hitler came in," Ahenakew said in the taped interview.

During his trial last year, Ahenakew said his statements were based on what Germans had told him when he served overseas in the Canadian military. He also blamed his outburst that day on feeling ill from high blood sugar and drugs taken to treat diabetes.

Saskatchewan provincial court Judge Marty Irwin fined Ahenakew $1,000. The amount was appropriate to prevent him from becoming a "martyr" for racists and bigots, Irwin said.

While Ahenakew could have been given jail time, government prosecutors had only sought a $2,000 fine.

In July 2005, Ahenakew was stripped of his membership in the Order of Canada.

Canada is morality superior to the US like the USSR was....it wasn't.

We, Canadians, decry our independence from the USA and then we come up with things like Canadian Idol, Who wants to be a Canadian Millionaire and a host of other copycats.

There are many things in Canada that differentiaites us from our American cousins. Things which should be celebrated including our fine Canadian Ale, but sometimes our jealousy gives way to our common sense.

I agree we can be somewhat self righteous where should not be. Still I would not give up my citizenship for anything.

I am proud of my heritage.

No need to thank me Dory, I will always guard the back of a fellow Canadian, but NFL'ers have a special place in my heart. I have never met a Retarded Welfare Newfie, NFL'ers would rather eat an arm than take welfare. Sterio-typing people really pisses me off, hell I live in cow country do I own a cow? NO.

Great post RCS, those initials sound like an organization that rescues cats, are you any good with Skunks, rats, Raccoons etc.

HI Five, are you feeling better?

Hey, Sassylassie. :) I am not feeling particularly terrible today, lol, which isn't too bad in the least. I love how you show such concern for your neighbours and friends in the Canadian Content community — it's one of the reasons I love these forums so much! :)

 To the Topic at Hand

I think that while perhaps Canada tends to posses a sort of arrogant attitude, at times, in terms of chastizing the United States' policies and legislative endeavours, I think that the same could be said the other way around, too — such as the United States' ample criticism of Canada for the passage of the Civil Marriage Act, for example.

Neither nation is blameless.

The US and Canada are like twins they look a lot alike but there are some personality differences. Nothing we can't over come.

I heard on Cow Radio that they will be debating the Same Sex Marrage Bill on Monday, and there will also be a discussion on Canada's Role in Afghanistan.

Well when Canada hits 300 million you can have your own programs and your own cable channels and your own networks too.

Get busy = I hear it's up to the men first!!....unless me Ma told me wrong!

Don't feel bad - every television movie I see down here is made in Toronto or Vancouver (Vancouver has the rain and Toronto the snow)....and they always show the American flag in every "serious scene"..hahaha....cracks me up.

Actually Wednesday, I hate American Idol and Canadian Idol. I'm a rock nroller from way back. The trouble with our artistic community here in Canada is that they're subsidized and not nearly hungry enough.

As for the film industry. Hooray for them We make great movies, just lousy television.

Cheers

RE: Canada isn't morally

If we are not morally superior to the U.S.A. then we should be working to make sure that we are, not to do so would be a big mistake, maybe our last as a nominally free nation.

Never watched "Idol" show - don't get much television time in so try to watch things which end at the end.... if you get my drift...

I use television to wind down my hyper self so I can sleep.... most everything on television can put me to sleep.
