The supposition that Muslims cannot be good Canadians is reprehensible. I am far from being a religious zealot (except for the occasional goddess in the misty past). but, to use religion as a filtre to weed out "undesirables" has more than the the whiff of fascism about it!

As subtle as an onion soup fart in choir rehersal.

No problem. There were Sikhs in Vancouver that were in her majesty's services in 1848 and they haven't left since.

Look it up for yourself fartknocker.
Look, numbnuts, there is a big difference between Sikhs and muslims.

I suggest you quit standing on your head...

Here is something I found, that takes care of this question.

Chosen by Asker
I am a Sikh, and there is big difference between us and the Muslims:

1) We don't kill innocent animals i.e. cook or prepare any kind of meat , be it halal, as these are gods creation and have a RIGHT to live as we do.

2) It is compulsory to wear turban and beard (Have to stay as GOD made you right from birth, why change his creation)

3) We believe in one god as the supreme power

4) We don't not fast, as fasting doesn't have any relevance to the Sikh religion and one doesn't get closer to god if they fast, only good deeds, giving to charity, praying to GOD and loving people will.

5) Women are treated equally and can lead a congregation just as men can

"It is through woman that order is maintained. Then why call her inferior from whom all great ones are born"

6) We respect each and every religion regardless of their beliefs.

7) We are not a violent sect of people.

8) Sikhs do not believe in idol worship or participating in any ridiculous rituals, we only worship the ONE.

9) The word "Sikh" means learning, a learning student, we are all his sons and daughters and we are here to learn the correct path.

10) Circumcision holds no relevance to a Sikh, you should make sure you clean yourself properly, why change Gods creation.

11) Sikhs do not face in any particular direction, east or west, when praying, as GOD seems to be everywhere.

12) Sikhs do not hold any significance in ritual shaving of the head, in fact removing of hair is forbidden in Sikhism.

13) We do not believe in Judgment day, but we believe that each and every one of us is being judged every second, every minute and every hour and there is a quote:

The clay of the Muslim's grave becomes clay for the potter's wheel.Pots and bricks are fashioned from it, and it cries out as it burns. The poor clay burns, burns and weeps, as the fiery coal fall upon it. O Nanak, the Creator created the creation; the Creator Lord alone knows.

So how can ones body erect in Judgment day.

14) Sikhs do not believe in high caste or low, all are one in the eyes of the Lord

15) Sikhs don't guess how many planets there are in the universe or claim that there are X amount of planets, we believe that there are numerous planets in the universe, and he who created the universe (LORD) know the best.

...and scientists are still seeing there are other planets, and Sikhism being around 500 years old conveyed the message that there are millions and millions of planets, the lord only knows.

16) Sikhism doesn't believe that the 10 Guru's were GOD, we believe them as GURU who teach the right path and we don't classify them as GOD.

17) Sikh bodyguards did kill Indian Prime minister because she ordered the attack on the holy shrine "Golden temple" which was unjust and uncalled for.

Now tell me is there anything in the list that's illogical, you wont find one including you Muslims.

Thirteen years before the Fathers of Confederation created Canada, a teenaged bride of Scottish origin, Agnes Love, gave birth to the first Muslim born in the territory that was to become Canada: James Love, named after his father, was born in Ontario in 1854. He was the eldest of the eight children of James and Agnes Love. The youngest one, Alexander, was born in 1868, one year after the Canadian confederation was formed.
Another couple, John and Martha Simon, described as "Mahometans" in government documents circa 1871, migrated from the United States and settled in Ontario. Like James and Agnes Love, they were of West European origins: John was English and Martha French.

My brother is gay too but I don't parade that around to support anything about a church or political faction just because it is handy. You don't like the truth that the church was were you went if you were gay?

How many gays has God cured to date vs how many found a place amongst their own in the church?

Don't blame me for the sins of the bloody Papists... :)

If you don't like fags being part of the fag churches then too bad for you.

Churches accept fags of all denominations because they have always been part of the church.

Baptisths or RC or Faglickin or Thuperduper Lutherans

Live with it or **** off.

Hmmm, muslims kill unbelievers. Christians don't.

Bible calls for death to non believers, death to homosexuals, death to witches. So using the same logic as that of religious right, those who don’t call for death to homosexuals or to witches are not ‘good’ Christians.

Quite so, Spade, this is really no different from trying to weed out the Jews, as the gentleman from Germany did.

I don’t have a problem with most of the tenets of Sikhism that you have listed, ironsides, except the first one. That one (“We don't kill innocent animals i.e. cook or prepare any kind of meat”) seems to imply that Sikhs are vegetarians, which is not the case. Sikhs definitely eat meat.

I get the impression from your many posts that you consider death to be a bad thing, which is something none of us know before we experience it. If it turns out to be a good thing, what does that do to all your arguments?

First things first, JLM. Let us first agree that Bible calls for death to homosexuals (Leviticus), to witches (Exodus) etc., and that anybody who does not demand that gays and witches be killed is not a ‘good’ Christian (same as religious right’s claims, according to religious right’s silly definition that anybody who is not a terrorist bomber is not a good Muslim). Then we will go on from there.
