Monsanto Stunned - California Confirms 'Roundup' Will Be Labeled "Cancer Causing"

California just dealt Monsanto a blow as the state’s Environmental Protection Agency will now list glyphosate - the toxic main ingredient in the U.S.’ best-selling weedkiller, Roundup - as known to cause cancer.

And now that they have banned pretty much all of the good weed-killers/pesticides in Canada (or at least Ontario), you see weeds everywhere and all the leaves and flowers getting decimated by whatever new Asian beetle makes its way over here.

A noxious weed or injurious weed is a weed that has been designated by an agricultural authority as one that is injurious to agricultural or horticultural crops, natural habitats or ecosystems, or humans or livestock. Most noxious weeds have been introduced into an ecosystem by ignorance, mismanagement, or accident.

Isn't there a particularly nasty one in Vancouver right now? I think it's called Japanese Bamboo or something like that.

Damn near every province/state, municipality and city in North America has noxious weed bylaws and acts.

I know. There is one that is similar to Queen Anne's Lace that is considered noxious. Milkweed used to be considered a noxious weed, but they realized that Monarch Butterflies fed on them (and put their cocoons on them) and reversed that decision. Thank goodness for that!

One flippin' seed in a ship full of grain will have the ship deemed contaminated and turned away from an importing country.

And people wonder why producers use herbicide....

Morning Glory is considered a noxious weed? I know that it has to be watched so as to not take over other plants, but it is quite lovely to look at. I actually have some put over an antique handpump in my back yard.

I have them growing on lattice up the side of the house. They will choke other plants.

For sure they will! Last summer, I had to pull them away from my butterfly bush (which is considered a weed, believe it or not, even though they sell them in green houses).

That is how most of the invasive weeds got here, English gardners.

To be fair, they wouldn't have known back then which ones would have been so tenatious, and hard to control (or even which ones would be considered just out-and-out bad). Trumpet Vines are another one that can be a pain in the butt to control.

Good morning SS, it's called natural migration of biota, these innocent plants obey the highest authority, calling them weeds is gross discrimination and a hidious form of cross racial discrimination. So you don't like the flowers living next door to you, perhaps they party to hardy. If I understand your first sentence you're in favour of extermination by any means, even if some collateral damage occurs like mutations among grain farmers nn Saskatchewon. Your fear of these Chinese beatles is unfounded. They do not seek global hegimony. Fear mongering about the Chinese competative advantage is all the rage these days. They simply want a place in todays garden.
