mentally ill is one thing, criminally insane without his drugs, well that goes into a whole different realm.

This is a very sad case from all angles and for all involved, but as far as I'm concerned you just can't be giving this man unescorted freedom. Is there a guarantee that his meds will keep him on the straight and narrow?- maybe 99.9% but that's not good enough given the potential for further mayhem. Also there's even a greater chance that he won't stick to a rigid regimen for taking them. He has to be supervised as long as he lives.

The problem wasn't the medication that he was taking before he committed murder, it's that he chose to stop taking it which caused his mental break and subsequent actions.

I have a wee bit of knowledge as far as some of these drugs are concerned at least pertaining to bi polar disorder. They keep you on a very even mood all the time, while you don't experience sadness and depression you also don't experience enthusiasm or euphoria, so after awhile you get bored with it, understandably so when everyone else is having fun and you're not. At least that is the way it was explained to me.

To be honest, I don't care if he wasn't having fun. I'm sure Tim wasn't having much fun getting murdered, so I can't really gather too much sympathy towards Vince Li. Ultimately, his decision to stop taking it was his alone, and he should have been held responsible for it.

I absolutely agree with you. I was just trying to provide a little insight to how and why these things happen and justify why strict precautions have to be taken.

You know something, as much as I can sympathize with that, no illness is fun. No illness is easy. And while mental illness is an illness just as cancer or heart disease or diabetes, those with the latter mentioned conditions who choose not to take their medication are really only hurting themselves. While it might indeed be rare the number of mental ill who are truly violent and dangerous, those that are and choose not to take their medication are at risk of hurting others. Often in the worst way imaginable.

I'm not sure there was any indication that he was capable of something like this if he failed to take his medication. The way our laws are worded, there isn't much that can be done with the mentally ill unless they are an Immediate threat to themselves or others. You can't really blame him when the system doesn't allow the medical community to step in and take charge. Holding people responsible when they have lost the ability to think rationally is just silly
