mentally ill is one thing, criminally insane without his drugs, well that goes into a whole different realm.
This is a very sad case from all angles and for all involved, but as far as I'm concerned you just can be giving this man unescorted freedom. Is there a guarantee that his meds will keep him on the straight and narrow- maybe 99.9% but that's not good enough given the potential for further mayhem. Also there's even a greater chance that he won't stick to a rigid regimen for taking them. He has to be supervised as long as he lives.
The problem wasn't the medication that he was taking before he committed murder, it's that he chose to stop taking it which caused his mental break and subsequent actions.
I have a wee bit of knowledge as far as some of these drugs are concerned at least pertaining to bi polar disorder. They keep you on a very even mood all the time, while you don't experience sadness and depression you also don't experience enthusiasm or euphoria, so after awhile you get bored with it, understandably so when everyone else is having fun and you're not. At least that is the way it was explained to me.
To be honest, I don't care if he wasn't having fun. I'm sure Tim wasn't having much fun getting murdered, so I can't really gather too much sympathy towards Vince Li. Ultimately, his decision to stop taking it was his alone, and he should have been held responsible for it.
