He might cut. The question though is whether he'll cut spending enough to counterbalance the tax cuts.

He'll most assuredly cut. Fact is, Ontario can't afford free prescriptions for old folks and free daycare for young folks, so that's not going to happen. He's already said he's going to look for inefficiencies in government and considering the mess that Wynne is leaving behind should make finding inefficiencies easier to identify.

He's definitely got his work cut out for him.

I suppose that if voters wanted, they could vote in the NDP.

Of course voters remember the mess that Liberal Premier David Peterson left behind and how NDP Premier Bob Rae inherited that mess after Paul Martin cut transfer payments to all provinces. Rae was unprepared to lead the province and eventually fell on his sword and along came Progressive Conservative Mike Harris who bore the brunt of criticism when he had to clean up the mess.

Mike Harris did two things that deserved criticism. Selling the 407 and cutting too deep. Thankfully, Dalton McGuinty's Liberals galloped in and continued what they started under the Peterson government.

Ontario has essentially become a nanny state where you aren't allowed pit-bulls, because Dalton was thinking about the children. Where big trucks clog up the center and passing lanes because they are governed at 105 kilometers an hour. Never mind they have the highest insurance rates in Canada and why not? The insurance company pretty much owns the Ontario government. And how about the highest hydro rates hoisted on the people of Ontario, even though they often pay [not charge] New York State to take their surplus electricity.

I loved many things about Ontario, but in the end I went west because I watched my paychecks get smaller and my expenses grow larger. I pay to insure two vehicles in Alberta what I paid for one in Ontario. I pay less than halve for my hydro based on what I was paying when I lived there. And that was before the hydro went bonkers. There's no HST, just a GST. The Liberals have really ****ed up Ontario, with their smart meters and stupid politicians. At this point, the electorate would be better served by a bowl of stagnant gravy than they are by the likes of that crook Kathleen Wynne and her party of carpetbaggers.

I doubt Ford will tax cut them into bankruptcy. How do you bankrupt the already bankrupted.

mike Harris did two things that deserve criticism before he got out of bed in the morning.

The Harris Revolution literally killed people and put the liberals in power for 15 years and counting.

They won't be spending anything on LRT.

Wynn was just talking about that.

Common Sense 2.0 should cut spending to various departments in order to phony up a balance sheet to make their white power base happy.

I really don't believe anything about the Ford campaign that comes out of our liar premier's mouth.

Canadian city paying some of highest gas prices in the world

Monday, April 30, 2018, 7:56 PM - Gas prices are on the rise across Canada and those in the west are among the hardest hit.

According to Dan McTeague senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com, Vancouver is paying some of the highest gas prices in the world. At an average of $1.619 per litre Monday morning, the Canadian city set a North American record.

"If you're in Victoria and Vancouver you've shattered all records. Not only your own, but you have shattered in the case of Vancouver, any record of any city, at any given time throughout North America," McTeague told The Weather Network.

Just throwing this out there to go along with the rising interest rates which ALWAYS precedes a CRASH!!!

Mike Harris did the same thing that Doug Ford is mouthing off about.
Mike Harris hid a 10 billion dollar deficit which was only revealed after McGuinty took office and is the reason why McGuinty legislated that the auditor must inspect the financial accounts prior to any election.
Mike Harris was such a winner that even today most every conservative party member is too ashamed to be seen with him at their side.

Doug Ford is increasingly looking like a classic NeoConservative. A government deconstructivist, trickle downer, libertarian with no real affinity to social conservatism except as a cynical device to lock up a voter demographic.

The last thing Ontario needs is a Reagan/Thatcher globalist, monetarist and free marketeer with their mantra of dismantling and neutering government through deregulation, privatization.

Ontario and Canada need a true Conservative.. nationalist, dirigiste, populist and progressive. Someone who will invest in society and infrastructure. Someone not unlike Donald Trump.

North Korea is just what you describe, Hong Kong its opposite. Compare their economies. Which should Canada emulate?

Ontario deficit will jump to almost $12B in 2018: FAO

A new report from the Financial Accountability Office shows that Ontario’s budget deficit is actually $11.8 billion instead of the $6.7-billion figure reported by the provincial Liberals.

Ontario’s fiscal watchdog says the province’s deficit will jump to almost $12 billion this year as a result of higher spending in the Liberal government’s 2018 budget and weak revenue gains.

The FAO also says the government’s spending plan will add about $70 billion to the province’s net debt, increasing it to almost $400 billion in 2020-21.

The findings come in the FAO’s Spring 2018 Economic Outlook, released Wednesday, just a week before the provincial election campaign kicks off.

Doug Ford is promising cheaper gas. How is he going to do that? Why not just let the market decide? He's just as bad as Wynne and Horwath promising to the ignorant masses what will clearly be outside his powers to promise short of subsidizing it if necessary. Is that what he's promising? whither the fiscal conservative?

Cripes, I might as well run and promise a Harley to every Ontarian and my platform would appear almost as sensible as that as any of the big three parties.

Good post. as long as he focuses on cutting spending and cutting it deep and making tax cuts conditional on balancing the books.

Doug Ford isn’t “for the little guy” – he’s a mercenary for the millionaire class

A surging NDP can defeat Canada’s Trump – whose folksy act is a front for an assault on working people and the environment

A recent episode perfectly captures the appeal of Ontario Tory leader Doug Ford. Asked about a delayed mining plan in the province’s north, this is how he answered: “If I have to hop on a bulldozer myself, we’re going to start building roads..it will benefit local people but it is also going to benefit everyone in Ontario.” The statement quickly went viral.
In a single gesture, witness the dizzying acrobatics of right-wing populism. There’s the posture of an unflinching maverick, spitting on his hands and getting the job done. There’s the plain-spoken concern for the common man and woman. And then there’s the actual result: a resource scheme that would enrich multinational corporations – who’d help themselves to a 10-year tax holiday – while trampling Indigenous rights and razing one of the last intact wild areas in Canada.
The spectacle has nevertheless dazzled most of the media. The result has been the frequent amplification of Doug Ford’s claim to be an outsider, in alliance with the “little guy,” crusading against the elite – the ones he says “drink champagne with their pinkies in the air.”
Never mind that he inherited a multi-million dollar business from his father, a conservative politician. Never mind that he has coasted on the political machinery of his brother, former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford. Never mind that he spent years as a city counsellor trying to dismantle public services, has surrounded himself with Stephen Harper’s closest advisors, and is now advancing policies that would be a Trump-like giveaway to the wealthiest. Half-baked denunciations of the elite are apparently enough to eclipse an entire career of fealty to them.

Wouldn't fuel get cheaper if you cut the Carbon tax? Is there any other hidden gems in the fuel tax that can be cut with the program that it is tied into?

I can smell lefty bullshit miles away.

That's because you have your head up your own ass.

No, it actually gets more expensive because you now have to pay for leaving the cap and trade free market.

Regardless of whatever you think, there would still be a federally imposed carbon price.

Drug Fraud would cost the taxpayers with that move because he has no plan.
