No argument but the situation as is and as will continue for years and cost us much if English Canada do not do the right thing and apologise to the French for screwing them out of their veto power.
It would all be ok if English Canada had not insulted the French by screwing Levesque out of his veto power. That insult to the French is why they will never forgive the English treachery and deceit. You foolish English have forgotten that you only **** a Frenchman once.

English Canada would have the same pride and want nothing to do with the French if the French ever screwed English Canada with treachery and deceit.

Now English Canada will all pay the price. A lose, lose situation.

The French will never stop till they get pay back. English Canada better get used to the political and economic loses that this on going idiocy will bring.

Strangely, the Frenchman in me wants the French to screw the English while the Canadian in me knows we would be screwing each other. That aside, the English need to learn morals and the French have decided to teach. They are correct in their position.

English Canada better learn fast, --- or pay the large price for not repenting of their dirty deed. Pay back is a bitch and Canada is now Quebec's bitch.

English. Reap what you sowed. You will learn not to screw a Frenchman. They do not take English B. S. in Europe. They will not here either.

Do you see this as just about money?
It's not.

It is pride.

From their POV, English Canada screwed them without paying the price when the they sucker punched Levesque.
The French will not forget that insult. English Canada will get the bigger screwing if it does not move to repent.

Regards
DL

No argument.
No solution either unless the English make up for their insult to the French.
If they cannot save face, they are gone and so is Canada as a nation. B C and Alberta will follow.

Pauline Marois’ swearing-in ceremony becomes a sovereigntist farce | Full Comment | National Post

Freshly sworn in as Quebec Premier, Pauline Marois expressed her “firm conviction” that Quebec’s future is as a sovereign country. “A normal country that makes all its laws, decides for itself how to use its taxes and speaks with its own voice in the world,” she said Wednesday.

The problem is her Parti Québécois won just 54 of the National Assembly’s 125 seats on Sept. 4, and the opposition parties have no interest in helping her realize her dream. “What we will do in the context of a minority government is protect every shred of sovereignty already in our hands and acquire new ones,” she promised.

The financial hard times are about 1 to 3 years away. And that applies to all Provinces east of Manitoba- Yes even NFLD is running a large prov debt.

National Post | Canadian News, Financial News and Opinion

Two of her declarations, in particular, bring her plan into question. Marois has, after all, pledged a balanced provincial budget by 2013-14. That matches the timeline contained in the last budget of the now-defeated Charest Liberals, brought down last March. Even if the budget is balanced — and as noted below, that might be easier said than done — Quebec will still grapple with a mind-bogglingly large debt burden. It’s public-sector debt is already at a quarter-trillion dollars, and it’s climbing fast. The cost of servicing that debt is an already problematic $8.2-billion. Should Quebec’s costs of borrowing spike or should the economy falter, it could prove absolutely ruinous.

That’s where Marois starts. Not a good place to be if you’re an incoming premier with pledges to honour. And yet her first day’s worth of promises were expensive.

Eight point two billion? That number sounds familiar regarding Quebec. Isn't that close to what it
Receives annually in Equilization payments?

That is close. Though I would take 10 % of the difference and be quite happy.

If Equilization payments balance out closely the amount needed to currently service Quebecs debt
Load......what is the hardship to Quebec in carrying that debt load in the first place? It would be
Like a credit card with a super low interest rate.

Quebec could use the money projected to repay the debt towards other investments to generate
Revenue without too much concern of it's current debt if this is the case.

1995 referendum :
In preparation for a "Yes" victory, aboriginal peoples in Quebec strongly affirmed their own right to self-determination. First Nations chiefs said that forcing their peoples to join an independent Quebec would violate international law. In the final week of the referendum campaign, they demanded to be full participants in any new constitutional negotiations resulting from the referendum.
The Grand Council of the Crees in Northern Quebec was particularly vocal in its resistance to the idea of being included in an independent Quebec. Grand Chief Matthew Coon Come issued a legal paper, titled Sovereign Injustice, which sought to affirm the Cree right to self-determination in keeping their territories in Canada. On October 24, 1995, the Cree organized their own referendum, asking the question: "Do you consent, as a people, that the Government of Quebec separate the James Bay Crees and Cree traditional territory from Canada in the event of a Yes vote in the Quebec referendum?" 96.3% of the 77% of Crees who cast ballots voted to stay in Canada. The Inuit of Nunavik held a similar local vote, asking, "Do you agree that Quebec should become sovereign?", with 96% voting No.

believe what you may DL, but unless your Quebec is willing to pay off its share of the debt, pay for buildings there that are CANADIAN, and cut any ties to pensions or benefitsm handouts from CANADA.........your self-taught righteousness is invalid. Multicultural for sure and the various cultures will demand respect.

The English dirty deed to Levesque will need payback. The English can either continue to pay or they can redress the dirty deed.

Your choice.
