My wife's first husband launched a separate court proceeding in order to recover a toaster oven. Ironically the extra delay in processing that claim has allowed her to qualify for his pension (when the time comes) as it made the marriage last 12 years (the last 4 of which were in divorce court).
Now THAT is a wonderful, wonderful example of karma...sweet!

I never realized there was a time limit before a woman could get her hooks into the hubby's pension! A guy I worked with was married for 17 years which was long enough for her to have a claim on 1/4 of his pension. I never could make sense of that one, he was the one who went to work every day and earned the pension. Maybe that's the reason people get pushed off cliffs! -:)

This one wasn't your average woman, Sal. He never had an inkling anything was going on until she sat him down at the table one night and told him it was over, she had consulted a lawyer and got it all worked out what she was entitled to and he was completely overwhelmed before he could catch his breath. I knew the guy well and know he was a very fair minded person and I'm positive she was more than adequately compensated for managing the house, doing the cooking and looking after the kids. To his discredit I think he may have been more hooked on computers than he was on her......................but then I wouldn't blame him for that. -:)

Reminds me of the guy who came home one day, and his wife (who didn't work outside the home) presented him with an itemized list of the services she had performed that month, with prices. He looked it over, pulled out his wallet, and paid her. She was so pleased at his acceptance of whatever point she was trying to make that she got to feeling affectionate, and thinks got kinda hot and heavy in bed that night. In the morning, he left forty bucks on her nightstand for the sex, moved out, and divorced her.

If he is addicted to computers that would be why he never had an inkling...lol...kinda says a lot about your friend and his level of engagement in the marriage...they are likely both better off without each other.

Some people never get that and just hang tough. They don't even know they are angry and miserable until they get a new life. Then they wonder why they didn't just do it sooner. Half your pension for your whole world positively altered is a small price.

I'd have left 40 cents.

He had his faults all right, one problem was couldn't see them. He was a perfectionists who didn't realize too much perfection is a detriment.

We didn't go to court, we just split it 50/50.....She got the assets & I got the debt. 8O

You know why divorce is so expensive?

Because it's worth every penny to get rid of her!!! ;-)

I'm thinking her trial will be a real cliffhanger. 8O

She got the goldmine. You got the shaft.8O

That is because you live in Saskatchewan. In Saskatchewan, only 29% of couples are divorced before their 30th anniversary; whereas, in more progressive jurisdictions the divorce rate is higher. In Alberta, 42% don't make the 30th.

That's progressive ?

Pensions are considered an asset just like houses, cars and boats. In Canada the basic rules are for an equitable split of any assets from within the marriage. What you had before or got after is normally exempt.

Bride accused of shoving husband off cliff

A Montana woman accused of killing her husband of eight days by pushing him off a cliff in a national park pleaded not guilty on Friday to first-degree murder and other charges in a federal grand jury indictment handed down one day earlier.
Jordan Graham, 22, was charged in September with second-degree murder in the July 7 death of her husband, 25-year-old Cody Johnson of Kalispell, Montana.
But a federal grand jury on Thursday found sufficient evidence to also charge her with first-degree murder, a charge that alleges premeditation and carries a life prison sentence.
Graham entered not guilty pleas to both charges during a brief hearing in U.S. District Court in Missoula and was ordered back to court on Oct. 15 for further proceedings in the case.
In a sworn statement filed with the court, FBI Special Agent Steven Liss said that Graham argued with her husband and expressed doubts about their marriage before pushing him off a cliff in Glacier National Park.
Graham had confided to a friend that she was having second thoughts about marrying Johnson, with whom she argued while hiking a steep trail at the national park, according to Liss’ statement.
“Graham stated she could have just walked away, but due to anger, she pushed Johnson with both hands in the back, and as a result he fell face first off the cliff,” Liss said.
After family and friends reported Johnson missing, Graham told authorities her husband had texted her to say he was going for a drive with friends and that she believed he was in a dark-colored car that pulled out of the couple’s driveway that night, according to legal documents.
Graham’s federal public defender, Michael Donahoe, has said that his client was acting in self-defense. At a court hearing last month he said Liss and other federal agents mischaracterized her statements during audio-taped interviews.
Donahoe said the incident on the cliff involving Johnson’s grabbing and Graham’s pushing were “all one motion” and that his client’s actions constituted “a self-defense kind of thing,” according to legal documents.
A U.S. magistrate judge last month released Graham from jail after determining she was neither a flight risk nor a danger to the community.
She was equipped with an electronic monitoring device and placed in her parents’ custody in their Kalispell home, where she is to remain pending trial. She is restricted to the residence except for such activities as religious services, mental health treatment or court hearings.

so first degree murder, that's interesting, but not surprising, the shock is that she thought she was smart enough to get away with it....she can't be right

On the news they said she was facing 3 charges. 1st degree murder, 2nd degree murder, and providing false statements. Looks like they are throwing a large blanket over her. She will definitely be convicted of the false statements and hopefully 1st degree. I don't buy her story. How can someone grab your arm and have you push them in the back at the same time? Then of course she lied about the whole situation for days before finally 'finding' his body.

What an idiot this woman is. If she had just kept her mouth shut and pushed him off the cliff she probably would have got away with it. Instead she lies about where she was and makes up a story that implicates her. Brainless.

Montana bride may have blindfolded husband, then pushed him off cliff
Laura Zuckerman, Reuters
First posted: Tuesday, November 12, 2013 04:35 PM EST | Updated: Tuesday, November 12, 2013 04:46 PM EST
Federal prosecutors believe a Montana woman accused of shoving her new husband off a cliff at Glacier National Park during an argument may have blindfolded him before pushing him to his death, court documents show.
The theory stems from “a piece of cloth” authorities retrieved near a ravine where the body of Cody Johnson, 25, was found, according to legal records filed late last week by defense lawyers that reference the theory.
Jordan Graham, 22, was indicted last month on first- and second-degree murder charges tied to the July 7 death of Johnson, her husband of eight days.
Federal prosecutors have said that the Kalispell, Montana newlyweds argued that evening while hiking a steep trail at Glacier and that Graham shoved Johnson off a rock ledge “due to anger” and then tried to cover up the crime by lying to investigators.
Graham’s attorneys argue that the death was accidental, that Johnson grabbed his wife’s arm during a marital dispute and that Graham pulled away even as she pushed him back.
Michael Donahoe, senior litigator with Federal Defenders of Montana, said that U.S. attorneys have not disclosed any evidence of premeditation except for mentioning during a recent telephone conference call that “the government now believes Jordan placed a blindfold on Cody before pushing him off the ledge,” the court filings showed.
A cloth found near where Johnson’s body was recovered was sent for DNA analysis but the defense has not been given a report of the government’s findings, Donahoe said in the court documents, filed in U.S. District Court in Missoula, Montana.
Federal prosecutors did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Donahoe added that prosecutors’ “eleventh hour premeditation theory that Cody was blindfolded” raised serious legal concerns since it appeared to contradict their argument that the newlyweds were arguing intensely while hiking.
“It hardly seems plausible that the argument would cease abruptly so Jordan could apply a blindfold,” Donahoe said.
Graham’s trial is slated to begin next month in Missoula. Her attorneys have asked the court to bar the government from introducing such evidence at trial as nude images of the newlyweds retrieved from their cell phones.
Donahoe has said that U.S. authorities distorted his client’s statements about the incident and recorded only the parts of her interrogation that bolstered the government’s case.
He wants a judge to dismiss the indictment entirely or to strike down the first-degree murder charge, which alleges premeditation and carries a mandatory life sentence.
