Geez, how about people don't succumb to some weird societal/peer pressure, marry only if and when they are ready and want to, and then push nobody off a cliff. Is that really too much to ask?

We didn't go to court, we just split it 50/50.....She got the assets & I got the debt. 8O

That is because you live in Saskatchewan. In Saskatchewan, only 29% of couples are divorced before their 30th anniversary; whereas, in more progressive jurisdictions the divorce rate is higher. In Alberta, 42% don't make the 30th.

I have heard of people arguing right down to tins of soup in the cupboards...sometimes lawyers fire clients, I didn't know that, but they do.
My wife's first husband launched a separate court proceeding in order to recover a toaster oven. Ironically the extra delay in processing that claim has allowed her to qualify for his pension (when the time comes) as it made the marriage last 12 years (the last 4 of which were in divorce court).
