He's realized it since he was thirteen. He would not have assumed office if he did not know which direction to bow and whos hand to lick. Class conditioning would have assured his suitability. Hand picked as they all are, especially in times like the present. That's my opinion about suitable Canadian PMs.

You could be right about that. But I doubt if he's intelligent enough to see beyond the camera.

George Bush was intelligent enough to do two terms, JT is at least as intelligent. All he has to do is smile and look into the cameras with the happy puppy look or the sad puppy look. I don't expect him to engage in sophisticated stuff though either. He provides for Canadian government what it could not get from Harper, the cuddly effect.

Well if Trudeau gets elected for two terms because he 'looks cuddly' then the electorate is dumber that he is!
Personally I don't care if our leader is 'cuddly' or 'cute'; I would like him (or her) to have the intestinal fortitude to make decisions on critical issues.
Gender equality, a word in the National Anthem, when the Government says a person can or cannot die, bringing in a quota of refugees doesn't put food in mouths or the families of the unemployed or pay their rent. Those destitute people don't need help in 3,6, 12 months or in 2,3, 4 years.. They need it NOW!

It would be interesting to see a gender breakdown of who voted for whom in the last Federal election. It might just be that "cuddly" tipped the scale. It has happened before ... 1968, for instance.

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land, glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee;
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! Where pines and maples grow,
Great prairies spread and Lordly rivers flow!
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western sea!
The land of hope for all who toil,
The true North strong and free!
God keep our land, glorious and free.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies,
May Stalwart sons, and gentle maidens rise.
To keep thee steadfast thro’ the years,
From East to Western sea.
Our own beloved native land,
Our true North strong and free!
God keep our land, glorious and free.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our Dominion, in thy loving care.
Help us to find, O God, in thee,
A lasting rich reward.
As waiting for the better day,
We ever stand on guard.
God keep our land, glorious and free.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

I can't say the tune has ever raised a lump in my throat. I don't know most of the words and I don't care if it's replaced with led Zepplin or Black Sabbath lyrics. Immigrant Song or Mob Rule would work just as well.

She's not insightful enough to understand that whatever lifeform is elected PM makes no difference whatever to the eventual outcome of actions performed by any Canadian government. Power has never rested within the PMO. It's that simple. Every and any Canadian PM is subject to offshore rule. The job of the PM has always been to present a resonable facsimile of command and control not the actual power itself.

This is a fantastic, drug-fuelled trip down imagination lane.

You think that power in Canada has never rested in the Prime Minister's Office? Absurd.

The Prime Minister is the near exclusive advisor to the Governor General, which means that nearly every decision of the Government of Canada needs PMO vetting or approval at some point. To suggest otherwise simply denotes a clear lack of understanding of the Canadian system of government. Conspiracy theorists at their most desperate.

It ifs true that the Canadian Prime Minister has more power than the U.S. President

A Canadian Prime Minister can do just about anything they want without the constraint of Parliament and the tendency over the last forty years is for the Prime Minister's Office to pretty much run the country. We will see if the new one has those tendencies but knowing something about the history of the party that he comes from, it is a probable "yes". The last Prime Minister had serious "ruler" tendencies but he was by no means the first.

The American system has so many checks and balances built in to it that it is frozen in a permanent stalemate and not much leadership comes out of any of the branches, anymore. They can't even pass routine budgets, let alone catch up to the rest of the world on things like health care.

And I don't know all of the words to God Save the Queen, and anthem I used to walk out on when it was played in Canadian theatres. What is your point?

...and if you don't like the gender mentioned in that one, just wait a few years.

I still remember the words to the French version!

I didn't know there was a french version.

Shame on you, posting 'The Maple Leaf Forever'! All the French Canadians will get stirred up all over again and think up some new ways to harangue us.

So change it to Maple Syrup forever.

In fact, Mowich, the Liberals have delivered on a good number of campaign promises already:

  • They cut taxes for middle-class Canadians from 22% to 20.5%
  • They introduced a new tax bracket of 33% for Canadians earning more than $200,000 a year
  • They changed compassionate care benefits to provide for six months to care for an ill family member
  • They have already unmuzzled Canadian scientists and researchers
  • They have created the independent advisory board on Senate appointments
  • They have restored the long-form census
  • The Liberals appointed a gender-balanced cabinet
  • They contributed $100 million to the UN High Commission of Refugees
  • They introduced a right of appeal for denied refugee claims from designated countries
  • They have doubled the number of applications allowed for family reunification to 10,000 per year
  • They have ordered a national inquiry into murdered and missing Indigenous women
  • They have followed through on continuing our participation in Operations REASSURANCE and UNIFIER

And that is just the bad. Have they done anything good for Canadians yet?

I've always thought O Canada was a mediocre national anthem.

It can only be played a full horn, it cannot be nuanced and interpreted like the Star Spangled Banner. I always found it a bit embarassing, certainly uninspiring. We have a better representative of the country.. in the The Maple Leaf Forever (although it would require some reversification as well).

It seems to me the Conservatives lobbed a 'gender neutral' anthem as well.. and quickly retreated when it received an overwhelmingly negative response from all sectors of Canadians.

But Justin is such a dimwitted dolt that i doubt the mere fact that Canadians don't want his brand of political correctness will deter him. He'll just continue on his drift into an ideal of a Canadian Woodstock.. and his own political oblivion.

Don't bother with lyrics... Someday somebody will think it offends Botswanans because it lacks words without clicks and pops.

We all know what it really should be anyway.

Actually so far as anthems are concerned O' Canada is considered one of the better anthems in the world. It makes many of the top ten lists for anthems. But like most music it is a matter of personal taste. So far as the Star Spangled Banner is concerned it is a great anthem, but suffers from one problem - it is very difficult to sing and sounds awful if not performed by someone with a really good voice. My favourite - the Marseillaise.
