Why are there no rich people fighting fires either? Drury does have a point, sort of. Having been a firefighter for quite a few years now I have noticed that visible minorities are underrepresented. THe same applies to service clubs to an extent. Now my area does not have a lot of minorities to start with and the rich are either part timers or too old for firefighting but few of them show up at our fund raisers either. One of the neighbouring deptments has a rez but not a single FF from there. Our Lions club is mostly retired working people and a few of us that still work but none are executives or what would be classed as rich. ANd none are visible minorities unless you count the one that comes from QUebec.

mainly Caucasion Canadian borns.
Mainly? What are the others?

By the way, it's "Caucasian." If you must be a racist moron, at least try to be a literate one.

I'll tell you the secret. Except for a handful of noisy activists of questionable mental balance, like all normal people, we tend to not go where it's been made real clear we're not wanted.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't use "we" in reference to Canadian FNs, but I have a general feeling this is kinda a pan-Indian thing.

Mainly,,,I didn't say everybody,,,learn to read eh.

Yes, slackards are not wanted,,, but maybe if you learned to carry your weight you would be wanted and respected for your efforts. Learn about respect and how to get it.

N American people are the fairest in the world, earn their respect and they will give back in bucket fulls

My own experience here in BC is that natives don't have the training to fight fires so they're hired for 'camp duty' which is to say sitting around on a stump asking each vehicle coming into camp where they're going then sitting back and waiting for the next vehicle to arrive.

Refugees have no clue about how to fight fires and generally don't speak the language you can't hire just anyone not like the old days when I did it.

I think we should be careful not to denigrate folks who do a job that needs doing!

Ya, the boy doesn't have much gonna on between his ears.

My wife has family, first nations, fighting fires in bc. He was at the cache Creek fire, now he's in Williams lake.

The Canim Lake band has one of the most efficient, well-equipped and trained volunteer fire departments in the area gerry. They have helped out time and again with our smaller departments. The only reason they aren't on the front lines right now is in case anything closer to home breaks out - and that applies to every single volunteer fire dept in our area. They are our first line of defense and I am so happy to know we have them.

If there were more FNs and non-white immigrants on the fire lines, Durry would be pissing and moaning about how they're taking away jobs from good, hardworking white Canadians.

Here's a good incentive...... Ice Cream

Unfortunately that wouldn't work around here, Johnnny............ice cream is not a necessity and is not among the goods brought in right now. That goes for alcohol and any other product that is deemed non-essential.

I guess soooo, but are the smiles that ice cream creates, non-essential?

Under the assumption that near populated places the undergrowth piles up because natural burns were prevented and now wildfires are the norm.
If this is part of a climate change where the area is getting hotter and drier then the replanting phase should take that into account. and perhaps a different species would be more useful. Hemp would be an annual harvest and Mexico is short on raw textiles for clothing and manufacturing composite parts. We could be the only supplier in North and South America as it is already a legal crop, it is only lacking industrial machines and industrial size support from the Gov and Big Biz.
