He's actually quite a personable guy. I haven't met him, but know people who have. Also competent and hard-working. Didn't agree with his politics much though, particualrly as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Of course, he may not have had much leeway in the matter; everything seems to be orchestrated by the PMO these days.
It'll be interesting to see his reasons for quittting. If he gives no substantive reasons, that in itself will be interesting also.
Good news for Liberals and the NDP as far as the election goes though.

I'm sure we'll get a nice revisionist history lesson from the Cons in the room, but this guy has always been right up there with partisan hacks like Fantino and Clement.

But thats what made him interesting in the first place! Seriously the first few times I heard of him was because he had yelled at someone in parliament with an angry face. He has been pretty mellow since the Conservatives got a majority though.
His constituents dont seem to have had a problem with him. They kept re-electing him every chance they got. The other parties in that riding (which is right next to the one im in) got next to nothing by comparison.
Baird has been a very capable hard working Minister who is giving his constituency advance notice so they can hold nomination meetings in time for the next election. He's young enough to get a good position in the private sector.
The Walters hate gays, blacks, liberals, and people who point out those all too obvious facts.
Baird was "good gracious" when he was obviously wrong.
His constituents are the forking problem then, I should not be blameing Baird the Beasty Boy when he was placed in position by retards who have lousey selection criteria.
