It has been awhile since I've heard that type of talk. Most people realized how absolutely ridiculous it was and moved on. Others still carry on the tomfoolery.

Unlike in America, and maybe Canada, too, most people in Britain don't bother to lock their cars because they feel they don't need to. I think that says a lot.

We don't have to in our neighbourhood. We may lock the front door when we all go out but the back door is always unlocked. My wife leaves her car unlocked ALL THE TIME. I live in a "county" that has, some years, the lowest crime rate in North America. Our neighbours to the south of us live in a very different world.
