Yep- "It was down in old Fall River....................."

You mean this Lizzie Borden?

Lizzie Borden took an axe,
And gave her mother forty whacks,
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.

That would be her and from what I could gather they both deserved what they got.

I just read a blurb about Lizzie and her parents. A lot of people suspected Lizzie was being abused. One other thing was that Lizzie(or somebody) only gave her parents a total of 29 whacks. I guess that was enough....

Is that where the expression "whack job" comes from?

I can't help thinking "Job for life." is a bad idea. I don't know the exact limits we put on our judges but we have some dandies.

Judges RULE here in Massachusetts. They are appointed and can pretty much do what they want and do.

Not so long ago we had a judge basically let a transvestite (not judging here mind you) go after he/she held a screwdriver to a 9 (or 10) year old boy's throat demanding sex. She, in court, told the prosecutor to "shut up" when he objected to her allowing him/her out on cheap bail.

Drunk driving? They get busted quite often but they are always released and cases dismissed by other judges. You never know when you are going to need a favor.

And while we are on the subject someone should take a hard look at these God damn senators who are also there for life, collecting an obscene stipend and most of the time are absolutely useless. A couple of years back there was one senator collector full salary while attending about 5% of the time and spending about 80% of his time in Mexico. One way to fix that would be to put an upper age limit of 60. Who's useful (myself included) after 60 anyway?

They are there for life because we keep electing them.

That was one of them but at least she was aquitted by a jury.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure her father was a child molester and her step mother backed the old son of a bitch. I watched the movie about 100 years ago, but it's getting pretty vague in my mind.

I do not think it is fair to say he was a child molester. I think it just was an dysfunctional family. These days we are so quick to make the Father out to be a molester when bad things happen.

Yup. I've met a few women who were messed up by their mothers.

That is very true, but either way he is under a cloud or she is.

The Lizzie Borden House in Fall River is a Bed & Breakfast now. The house is furnished exactly the way it was back then.

As for Ann Bishop, the Braintree Police stated that she threatened two other people with the shotgun prior to killing her brother in 1986. They further stated that the statute of limitations is up so they can't charge her now.

Also in 1993 she punched a mother of two in Peobody Mass after the mother was given the last high-chair in a restaraunt. She was arrested and plead out.

In Canada I'm pretty sure they are appointed by the Prime Minister.
Appointed by the PM and they must retire at age 75. The newest crop have been asked to serve a maximum of eight years as the PM hopes to reform the Senate by then.

I saw a movie on the subject once, starring Elizabeth Montgomery (star of 'Bewitched').
