Arizona's Immigration Law

Ah, I get it.

In other words, there are no valid reasons to have any controls on immigration whatsoever, and in fact the border should simply be opened up completely, allowing anyone and everyone free and open access to whatever county they wish to go to.

That is the issue for federal government, why is Arizona butting in, except because of racism? If there was rampant crime, That would be understandable. But the crime is at an all time low. So why is Arizona getting involved, by passing a law that is sure to affect brown skinned people almost exclusively?

Yes whenever I got pulled over I am always asked for my license. I am very white.

But are you asked for identification when you are a passenger? Under Arizona law, it is left to the discretion of the police officer. The probable result of that will be that mostly Hispanic passengers will be asked for ID, not white passengers.

Still trying to use that old line. A few years ago a bunch of meat packing plants were raided as they were jammed with illegal immigrants. When the companies had to hire legal immigrants and (eee gads) Americans there were long lines of people looking for work. Willing and eager to do that work that Americans are reportedly not willing to do.

FAILED
Failed nothing. Then why does Arizona government not go after the businesses? By checking IDs, they can identify illegals one at a time. By raiding factories, they can ferret them out hundreds ot even thousands at a time.

So which is cost efficient, to harass Hispanic workers on the streets of Arizona or to raid the businesses? But I suppose Arizona government dare not offend the businesses (a natural constituency of the Republican Party). if they end up offending, alienating the Hispanic population, well, who cares? They don't vote Republican anyway. That is how racism (and politics) works.

Under Arizona law, it is left to the discretion of the police officer.

Quite so. By jove, I think you're almost getting it. You've almost gotten to the point of understanding it. Now, all you need to grasp is the finer points:

'reasonable suspicion'.

That's exactly the same standard by which Canadian law enforcement can, for example, detain you for alcohol testing. Or a myriad of other things.

Reasonable suspicion.

People who support out of uncontrolled immigration might as well be considered traitors. No different than the people in the Medieval Times who collaborated with the Mongols and Moors.

Reasonable suspicion against whom? Against the passengers? Are you saying that if a police officer pulls over a driver in Canada, he can do alcohol testing on the passenger? That is nonsense.

Arizona law is equivalent of doing alcohol testing on the passenger. And since it is left to the discretion fo the police officer, invariably it is the Hispanic passenger who will be penalized, not the white passenger.

You keep bringing up the same old canard again and again. Republicans say that the legislation is not racist, therefore it is not racist. Any student of logic 101 will point out the fallacy in that.

Suppose a company makes the policy that all its employees must be at least six feet tall. And in the next sentence they proclaim that the policy is not meant to discriminate against women. Would you believe them? Well, maybe you would, but I won't.

Saying racial profiling is illegal means nothing. Are you seriously claiming that police in Arizona are going to stop white people and ask them for identification? Not a chance, they will ask brown skinned people (not white or black skinned people) for identification.

If they pull over a van full of people, three white and three brown, you can be sure that they will ask the three brown people for ID, not the three white people.

And anyway, I come back to the question, if the crime rate in Arizona is in decline, has been for several decades, what was the necessity for the law?
If they pull over a van with three brown, and three white people, the only person that will be checked if it is a traffic violation will be the driver. It is something other than a traffic violation, they all will be at least asked to produce identification. No racial profiling involved. Just normal police procedure. As for bringing up the same ol, same ol that would be you, you just don't seem to get it. By the way, it is not just Arizona that do this it is pretty much all of the states. Some police departments do not directly report a illegal, but eventually a report make it to C.I.S.

"But the crime is at an all time low" you keep getting this wrong. What you are quoting are when the Republicans were in charge, someone has to say it. Crime is up since Obama became President. (2008-2010) figures that I provided you.

If that is how you interpret this, then all I can say is, good luck.

Well, those statistics are just at the discretion of the people involved, so you know they're just picking on brown skinned people.
Have you been to Miami Beach lately?

Seriously, we are chatting about immigrants from Mexico or Central America, not Norway.

But, that's racial profiling, so you're not allowed to do that.
I know, but there is no other way to do it right. (not correctly but more efficiently) The same as looking for Arab terrorists. Alternative would be to check everyone for DNA that fits the subject group. ( have DNA type on a ID card) not nice either. Right now if a illegal alien is found they are just sent home, most do it a few times before either going to jail or get tired of paying for rides north.

Prove it.

So why is Arizona getting involved, by passing a law that is sure to affect brown skinned people almost exclusively?
Because as Ironsides points out, they're a huge part of the problem.

But are you asked for identification when you are a passenger?
Yes. Many times.

They do, Arizona has a law that prohibits the hiring of illegals, and they enforce it.
