Pulling a switcheroo on me are you S.J.? AS you can see from the headings I've copied, everything about this thread is Canadian, you and I are Canadians we are discussing Canadian politics and the Canadian mortgage system- so why can't you just debate the point within those confines?

Nobody is pulling a switchroo, JLM. Refer to my previous post, #117, in that I specifically mention USA. The following is from that post (#117). All my posts about debt and deficit were meant to be general in nature, applicable to Canada, but not exclusively so.

And sell your house, are you serious? You would sell the house you are living in only in the direst of circumstances. And there is no guarantee that you will get your money back by selling the house, especially when housing market has tanked, as it did in USA recently.

Ah. So you were just stating the blatantly obvious as if there was someone here that didn't know that or could figure it out.
Deficits are transient in nature and mingled with surpluses. Debt is debt. Until you pay it off, you are wasting money for interest payments on the debt.

I don’t know if you remember Pat Carney. I think she was in the Mulroney cabinet, Mulroney later made her a Senator. She was instrumental in defeating Mulroney’s abortion legislation.

She was away on some trip somewhere when the legislation came to vote in the Senate (it was already approved by the House). She cut her trip halfway and returned to Ottawa to vote. She voted against the legislation and it was tied in the Senate, 50:50. That means the bill was defeated.

Later she was punished by Mulroney for that. All the same, she was instrumental in defeating the abortion legislation. She is the reason why we don’t have any abortion legislation today.

Maybe she took lessons from our flaky ex-Gov Gen. Remember? The ex-cbc hack who thought she could fly anywhere, anytime, with anyone she wanted, when she wanted and not have to pay the consequences. Actually, she was right about the consequences.

I met her on a flight back home from China. She came back and spoke to all of us, and gave each of the girls a Canadian Flag pin. That was nice, because it was a personal gesture, and she welcomed all of the girls to Canada. I thought it showed real class.

I don't know why. My mother was much better with money than my Dad. Me? I'm like my Dad. One of the reasons I hated my spouse being in Afghanistan was that I actually had to go on the computer and balance the damned budget. Thank god for e-mail when the going got rough.
i don't think that fiscal responsibility is a gender thing. If you've got it, you've got it - no matter what lies within your nether bits and pieces.

I think women could make an impact in government but they'd have to rise above stereotypes - those set by both the feminist and 'mainstream' peoples.

Got the vague impression she was a little too much on the pushy side for my liking, albeit women in politics have to be a bit that way, I suppose & it's alright if they know what they are doing.
