Are we really that different from Americans (culturally)?

Yeah. But on the other hand, Quebec isn't the only really distinctive bunch in Canada.Look at Newfies, Cape Bretoners all by themselves, N.Scotians, Albertans, etc. I can usually even tell between a Yukoner and a northern BCer.

I certainly agree Quebec isn't the only distinctive bunch in Canada! But the big difference with Quebec is its more than considerable seperatist movement. My main point is that despite its efforts to stay united, Canada has great tolerance to the Quebec seperatist movement. Would this movement still exist if Quebec was a US state?

Anything else, judgybaby?

You were correct - I was very judgmental in my post to you.

I apologize to you and sorry I was taking your humor as insult.

Curio,

Thanks for the response and your kind words. My marks aren't stellar either, not by a long shot. I'm chronically lazy and tend to do just enough most times. I know I'm not getting the bang for my buck and I always tell myself I will make an effort to put forth more effort, but what does that count coming from a lazy student? I like you learn more form my extra-curriculars, like this summer with my NSRC grant. I was working at the Marine Research Station outside of Halifax, and sometimes in the NSRC lab in Halifax. Working and being around all those brilliant people is a great way to learn, IMO. I think more students would benefit from Co-op programs, with required work terms. I was also pleasantly surprised that many of the people I worked with weren't the 4.0 student during their academic apprenticeship as I like to call it.

I think generally theres not a large difference between Americans and Canadians, only when we start digging below the underlying issues does there seem to be much of a noticeable difference. Lots of similarities, lots of intrinsic little deviations too, which to me sometimes seem to be making a mountain out of a mole hill.

The last hope for what? Do you wish to live in a country with the highest crime rate in the world? Are you new to Canada? We are not "heading close to socialism", we have been a socialist-democracy for decades. most of the programmes you complain about were put into place to help people in distress, and are paid for out of our tax dollars.

The U.S.A. is know where near the highest crime rate in the world ..but certainly much higher than Canada... I honestly find more regional differences that over all differences between and within both countries.

Personally living near the border I find less difference between eastern Ontario and upstate New york then between where I live and Toronto... With that said I have also hear in New York state that they understand Ontario moreso than Texas.

Certainly there are differences but I don't find then great and vast, with the exception of the fact that the U.S. has the role of world's Police. sometimes thats good sometimes bad. But I'd rather this big powerful nation on our border was them and not say China... They really don't throw the weight they could towards us...and why not? Because they basically are us!!

I see what you mean.
No, I doubt if the yanks would put up with separatists much.

It's not a problem. Sometimes I get going too far with the haha's. It's good to be told to shuddup once in a while. :D But, I was trying to be humorously informative. :)

it seems the poorer a country the less crime... or is it the less police to write down the crime?
Wanna take a look at Columbia again? Look at Canada's position in the amount of rapes per capita. I'd suggest it's more like the countries with the largest gap between rich and poor, the type of gov't, and the severity of types of crime that are the big factors in the crimes of countries.

Anyway, I think we are more alike than different but there are differences. I'm going on the definition of culture as being the personality of our respective societies. A big difference to me is this patriotism thing; someone raises a Canadian flag and we don't go all drooly and start saluting. The left in the States is more like our rightwing Cons. The NDP to Americans must be as close to communist as could be without actually being communist. I don't think we're quite as capitalistic, but I might be wrong.

Well, I'm not going to go on a rant here or even give this thread much thought, but a European can spot a US-American from a mile away yet they can't do the same with Canadians. I've seen it hundreds of times.
