Are the people who advocate "going green" today just a bunch of bloody hypocrites?

I allways ask the peeps at sobeys if they realize the big plastic signs they have bragging about how green they are by selling you their bags has enough plastic in it to make 100,000 shopping bags. This is the hypocrisy that gets me because it's right smack dab in front of you, insulting your intelligence.

It's easier to make a rule controlling the use of plastic bags than it is to ban plastic altogether. It may be more pragmatic too as no one is suggesting (not even environmentalists) that an entire resource (like oil) needs to be shut down.

I thought we went over this already.

Much of it has to do with the intended use/lifespan of the items. The vast majority of plastic bags are used once, for about a half hour, then thrown away. Signs are longer term items, for example, and have a higher likelihood of being recycled, because they are controlled by a smaller number of people (ie, generally the sign company), as opposed to the general public.

I think a lot of people are reusing plastic bags now as I do.

So do I, but how many times do you use them? And what do you do with them afterwards?

A couple or three, at which time either the handles break or they develop holes. Then they go into the recyling bag.

The kids next door left a case of empty beer bottles on their deck all winter. It was still there come spring.

I spose the little things help in a little way,I tend to look at these things in a much bigger way I guess.Like how a $30.00 computer chip in a fleet of haulers will cut their fuel consumption 10% and lower their emmisions as they now burn a better mixture, just an example but that green savings is worth about as much as a billion garbage bags.

I;m not a big consumer of anything, just enough to get by and enjoy life.

Best one I recall is the Green party vote for me signs made of corplast on 2x4 frames.

Not even sure what that is.
It wouldn't be so bad that the greenies use lumber and plastic for signs if they went to the used lumber store and recycled it. Corplast can be recycled if you don't leave it laying in the ditch for a year.

Do you notice that the Green Party has a problem attracting intelligent people to be the leader?

It's recycled homemade paper. Used lumbere store? Like the ReStore? Ever been to one of those? Used **** is more expensive than going to Homo Depot.

Things like plastic bags are a very marginal element in the overall resource and energy usage spectrum. The real impact when it comes to "going green" is making changes that produce on-going reductions in the use of energy and scarce resources. There is a wide range of things that can be done to reduce personal energy consumption - which of course ends up with the additional benefit of saving significant cash.
