I prefer myself as a physician. I know my body better than any doctor, I know a lot about healing and I have impeccable bedside manners. ;-)

Hmmmm... even when you have to put humpty dumpty back together again? Sorry Cliffy, but there are some things docs are needed for, no matter how holistically you like to view your health.

Butcher's Broom

The plant butcher's broom (Ruscus aculeatus), which is also known as knee holly, box holly, and sweet broom, gets its name because it was once used by butchers in Europe to clean their chopping blocks. Butcher's broom has a long history of traditional use for hemorrhoids and varicose veins. It is often used when there is underlying poor circulation in the veins.
How does butcher's broom work? Although scientists haven't confirmed the effectiveness of butcher's broom for hemorroids, butcher's broom extract contains anti-inflammatory and vein-contricting properties that are believed to improve the tone and integrity of veins and shrink the swollen tissue. The active compound is called ruscogen.
Butcher's broom is usually recommended in capsule or tea form. The tea has a slightly bitter taste, so a bit of stevia or honey can be used to sweeten it. The tea can be made by steeping one teaspoon of the herb in a cup of hot water for 10 to 15 minutes. Butchers broom has also been shown to be effective when applied topically as an ointment or compress.
Butcher's broom should not be used by people with high blood pressure, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), by pregnant or nursing women, or by people taking alpha blocker or MAO inhibitor drugs unless otherwise recommended by their doctor.

Like I said, I prefer my own medicine but some things, like broken bones and heart attacks we need doctors. The best medicine is preventative.

The reason there are 1.1 Billion healthy Chinese who use herbals is because they use modern diagnostics and monitoring of the prophylaxis of the herbals.

Agree, JLM. Ideally, we would prefer an employment candidate with both the work ethic and the knowledge/skills to perform well. Work ethic is the more challenging to remedy.

As a consumer, would you prefer a physician with a reputation for bedside manner or one with more clinical experience?

I think the clinical experience is more important BUT to be a good doctor I think both are required. By bedside manner I think that term is mainly applicable to two things, keeping the patient informed while giving him/her an optimistic outlook. I find this subject interesting as there is a physician in our town who has a terrible reputation among patients/former patients and yet is allowed to continue practicing here. He can be found on "Rate your M.D.", when I checked him out about 5 out of close to 60 reports were favourable. I'm wondering if he's really very knowledgeable and capable but maybe just can't put up with chronic hypochondriacs and whiners.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooh, ooooooooooooooooooh Cliffy, you've undoubtedly heard the expression about the man who uses himself for a lawyer! Well, methinks the same may apply to doctorin'. -:)

I think it would depend on the job, does it need experience, or would the employer need the employee to have the absolute moral fiber? If there are no customers or perhaps cash to be dealt with then why worry about the persons morals?

Employers look for attitude above aptitude. Anyone can be trained to do anything, IF they have the right attitude. The employee with the right attitude will set the bar higher. Attitude is everything.

Most corporate HR's use behavioral job interviewing. They don't ask how you do things they ask how you react to things.

I personally hire for attitude. I don't care how good someone is at a job, if they bring the wrong attitude into a team then it all goes to ****. Those who have the right behaviors consistently outperform because they adapt and progress and bring the team ahead with them.

The main ones to watch out for are the Union sh*t disturbers, invariably they are spending too much time creating trouble to be productive in any way. I've always contended if you can make an extra dollar for a fair boss, he'll pass a couple of nickels your way. If he doesn't you start looking for another job.

Don't give me no attitude! A person can have a bad attitude. What does that have to do with moral character?

"Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character." (Albert Einstein)
