Go to the great museums. Pass on the circuses.

Museums, old buildings, green spaces, hysterical monuments, mostly things that keep me outside and walking around a lot. I will take in the 'circus' though, I have to ............it's on my bucket list.

8O

Been there, done that.

Bring ear plugs.

When you're done and good and frustrated that we pay people the money we do to behave the way they behave at work, take a trip over the bridge to Old Chelsea in PQ

Nordik Spa-Nature

The Kalla treatment is beyond divine!

Ah but my dear, ........................it's sunny ways now.............doncha know.

I lived there briefly as a twentysomething. There were about five young women, there for every young man (due to the heavy feminine aspect of clerical work, back in that day). I quite liked it and there seemed to be a free-bie festival of some sort of other going on every second week, all payed for by the good people of Canada for the consumption of Ottawa locals. If you needed to go to a REAL CITY, Montreal is just an hour and a half down the 417. If you need wilderness, the Canadian Shield is right next door, as Ottawa is basically up in the middle of nowhere.
The Canadian Shield. lol The highest point is in the Tomgats and is a whopping 1600 meters or thereabouts. I bet the hill behind this house is higher. The nearest decent MOUNTAIN is Mt Loki at 2800 meters or thereabouts. The Canadian Shield forests seem decent, though. Then there is travel time between a home in the wilderness and the parleyment buildings. Again, I will pass and be happy here.

The museums there are not old ... not any of them.

It's not a mountain range. The Canadian Shield is huge, though and it covers more of the continent than the mountain cordillera in the west does. It is very ancient and it is the core body of land that the North American continent formed around.

The forests are close to inpenetrable and you travel around the Shield by canoe or by float plane.

Save the speechifying. I know what the Shield is. The Tomgats are in the Shield and the highest peak is around 1600 meters.

meh There is no such thing as impenetrable. I have hiked over quite a bit of BC including the northwest coast, around the Fraser Valley, the Caribou/Chilcotin, Fraser Canyon, and here. NO terrain is impenetrable. And I do not really care what Wiki says.

Do you know what Muskeg is?

The "Wiki" part is quite irrelevant. Besides, after several years now and hundreds if thousands of editors, Wiki is a pretty good encyclopedia, these days.

Anyway, point taken. You are a mountain girl.

Yes of course that's true, however you can depend on my adherance to the ideal. Whatever that might be at the time in question. I believe in this country Nova Scotia. You frontier people don't really count owing to your exclusion of ocean frontage.

I have great experiance in sleeping through tedious speeches and can fake interest in thousands of difficult subjects concerning the future of this confederacy if the whisky allotment is maintained constitutionally.

It is only a matter of time before I am appointed.
i vote for you darkbeaver,i don't know how old you are but you recieve my vote for the ability to fake interest and sleep through speeches, this i am jealous because i can't fake it anymore,i admire you.
i imagine you can find your share of good whiskey and water in ottawa, congratulations on becoming the CCF number one candidate for senate nomination.

Ottawa hot dog vendor applying to be senator

After more than 30 years behind the grill of an Ottawa hot dog stand, Terry Scanlon wants to launch a second career representing Canadians in the Upper Chamber.

His decision comes after the new Liberal government announced a plan to accept non-partisan applications.

Scanlon told CBC News he meets people of all stripes running his Hot Diggity Dog stand on the corner of Bank Street and Laurier Avenue, not far from Parliament Hill.

"In my business here we deal with all kinds of people: blue collar, white collar and no collar at all," he told CBC News.

"You don't have to go to political school to find out what's going on. You just have to have a heart and compassion to help these people — and I think I'm in a position to do that."

On Monday, some of Scanlon's customers applauded his plan.

"I'm surprised but happy at the same time, 'cause this is an honest guy," said Kevin Sauve.

"I fully support people from all different walks of life doing so," said Kimberly Brewer. "We need a large variety of opinions and backgrounds to really inform what the Senate can do."

Scanlon plans to hand the reins of his hot dog business over to his son if he is appointed to the Senate.

Applicants must also demonstrate at least one of three qualifications: a high level of experience in legislative process and public service; a lengthy and recognized record of service to one's community; or recognized leadership and outstanding record of achievement in one's field.

I'd be a great Canadian senator. I'm lazy, I'm greedy, I'm corrupt, and I have no desire whatsoever to improve the community, the country, or the world.

I think I'll move to Canada and buy four thousand bucks worth of stuff.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will name nine, new, non-partisan senators Thursday, bringing him within reach of his goal to transform the discredited Senate into a more reputable, independent chamber of sober second thought.

The five women and four men hail from a wide variety of backgrounds, from an art historian to a renowned human rights lawyer to a conservationist, The Canadian Press has learned.

They are the first senators to be chosen under an arm’s length process that saw more than 2,700 Canadians apply to fill the 21 vacancies in the 105-seat upper house.

Trudeau is poised to announce two more batches of appointments within days, filling the remaining 12 empty seats – six from Quebec, six from Ontario – and, for the first time, putting senators with no partisan affiliation in the driver’s seat.

When he’s done, independent senators will hold a plurality of 44 seats, outnumbering the Conservatives’ 40 and the independent Liberals’ 21.

Absolutely! And I'm also very touchy feely with the public, while at the same time, being detached, unknowing and icy.
