Copper pennies and all change that is made from high grade nickle is being sold for "recycling". Where is the the loot from the metals going? Will it hit the books?

A year or two ago a couple local guys thought they were clipping "abandoned" CPR wires. They found out the hard way those wires are for the signals.

Actually money is worth whatever value we accept it has. I we all of a sudden decided across the country that a loaf of bread will cost 1 cent then everything would be adjusted and the international exchange would adjust and things would continue as usual.

I'm not sad to see the $0.99 price gone, how many decades did that go on after everybody knew they were not 'getting a deal'?
How many loonies hit the market as the 'free replacement'?

No, god no! But I would have loved them to run a special commemorative printing to celebrate its passing.

Now I guess I have to roll the many years of collecting and cash them in. Ugh!

What will I put on the eyes of my victims?

Guess you will just have to get with the times.
Might try RIM shares. I hear they are cheap right now.

Copper is something like $2.50 an lb at the scrap yard.

It is actually much higher than that. That is just what we pay the peons that bring it in. New copper pipe is not worth quite as much as it has too many impurities i it.

I don't like it...

"You had to put your nickel in..." vs "You had to put your two cents in..."

"a nickel for your thoughts..." vs "a penny for your thoughts..."

Inflation already.

However, in a reverse move the USA many follow Canada's lead.. (usually it's the other way around and 10 years later)

Abolish the penny: The United States should follow Canada’s lead and ditch one-cent coins. - Slate Magazine

I'll bet it caused all kinds of havoc when Canada changed from the English system and "Penny wise and pound foolish" lost its meaning.

I remember a time when I could buy two Mojos for a penny....It was upsetting when the price went up to one for a penny.
