''If you consider "democratically" having every candidate vetted by a nutcase cleric, and if you call "democratically" having the ballot boxes stuffed in favour of the incumbent......

OMG! Aren't you one of the guys that claimed BUSH was a usurper????????''

It worked for Karzai and you of the far right did not object when that happened, right?

As for Bush, that was OK, too wasn't it.

How about you showing some consistency of your own?

First of all, Bush won fair and square....ask the Supreme Court......or even Al Gore......

Karzai??? Jury is still out, may need to be a re-run in places.....a bloody disaster that.....No, I am NOT happy about it.

That IS consistency.

''some on the far left WANTS the US to hit Iran because they would get off on the furor it causes. ''

Examples, please.

SURE!

Iraq Part 1, Iraq Part 2, Afghanistan. The MASSIVE DEMONSTRATIONS. Tieing up traffic and basically making themselves look like idiots.

So for YEARS under Bush the left proclaimed that Bush WOULD invade Iran. Not that he might but would before he leaves office. It never happened and the Left was sad. Very sad. But they could not let their dream of a US war in Iran die so the dream lives on in the OP's article!

as Teddy K. said... "The work begins anew... the dream lives on."

They are anti-war unless a Democrat is sitting in the Executive Office.

Sure that is the case, EagleSmack. Republicans haven’t come across a war they didn’t like, except when it is started by a Democrat. That is why Republicans opposed the Kosovo operation tooth and nail; it was started by a Democrat, Clinton. While Clinton was bombing Kosovo, Republicans were involved in highly political, partisan impeachment of Clinton (for having sex with his intern, exactly the same thing that Gingrich was doing at the same time as he was ranting and raving against Clinton).

So I agree, Republicans are usually very fond of war (maybe it is the Manifest Destiny, maybe it is the glory, pomp and glamour they associate with war, maybe it makes them feel patriotic, I don’t’ know), except when a Democrat is in the White House. Political opposition to a Democrat comes before any love of war.

Right wing nuts, left wing nuts - you're all nuts!

Just call them wingnuts, Cliffy. By throwing a tantrum here in the forum, we have earned the right to use the word (I think it was generally decided, after a lot of yelling and shouting back and forth, that it is acceptable to use the word). So we might as well use it.

EagleSmack, if the Iraq operation had gone smoothly, Bush very likely would have invaded Iran. I still remember the heady days just after USA drove Saddam out and took over Iraq. The insurgency was safely into the future, and everybody thought that Iraq war was over.

There was the talk of coming American empire. After all, USA for the first time invaded and captured a country which had done no direct harm to USA, so why wouldn’t it do the same to other countries, like Iran? I remember one British professor wrote an essay describing how the coming American empire was going to be more benign and longer lasting than British Empire. Bush had an approval rating of over 90%.

So if Iraq operation had gone smoothly, Bush very likely would have invaded Iran and American people would have supported him whole heartedly (at least until the operation turned sour).

Were the Republicans against the Kosovo campaign Yes or No - Simple question - What ever else was going on is your attempt to confuse and obfuscate.
Please remember that it was FDR that set the US on a path to war. He was right mind you but check the rest of history before you go into that bombastic mode of Us against Them -

When asked whether his bombing of Iraq during Ramadan and just before Christmas, at the same time talk of the sex scandal was distracting the nation, was a case of "Wag the Dog," Clinton turned to face the television cameras and declared, "No American president would ever do that."
- I may not have the words exact - getting old.

The Iranian people.

Don't like it? Go ahead and start your own invasion. Let them know how much you can run things if you have the guts and the smarts to do so.

Based on what? Evidence?

Sure... from people who opposed Bush. All kinds of talk about the war with Iran that never happened.

So if Iraq operation had gone smoothly, Bush very likely would have invaded Iran and American people would have supported him whole heartedly (at least until the operation turned sour).

No he wouldn't have... and he didn't.
