Canada Proves Conservatives Wrong by Cutting Corporate Taxes By 30% and Still No Jobs



Tax cuts create jobs. Paul Ryan and the Republican nominee Mitt Romney told a group that Canada just cut their corporate taxes to 15%.

Paul Ryan was obviously insinuating that these tax cuts put America at a disadvantage, and that the Canadian economy is going to explode and take all of our jobs. Corporate taxes in 2006 were already just 21%. In January 2011, Canada cut the corporate tax rate to 16.5%, then cut them again to 15% January 2012.

Overall, Canada has cut corporate taxes by almost 30% in 6 years.

The only problem is, the Canadian economy isn’t blasting off at all. It is still stuck in an anemic recovery. just like the United States.

The Canadian economy only grew 1.8% in the second quarter of 2012. The United States on the other hand has a much higher statutory corporate tax and the economy grew at 1.7% in the same quarter. How can this be? Higher taxes hurt job creation, right? Yet both countries are stuck in the same slow recovery.

Well, when you factor in all the loop holes in the US tax code, the effective corporate tax rate is far lower, 12.1% effective comapred to the 35% nominal rate. Canada actually generates a higher percentage of revenue from corporate taxes than the US.

Don't remind me, I got sucked into Voting for Chretien because he said he would rip up that agreement..............

Its always the threat of a trade war that prevents our government from doing anything.
The fact is the current agreement is killing us anyway, and we continue to assist them
by giving them oil and other products as raw materials. We own the resource and we
should set the conditions and the rules. In addition they want oil fine we will supply
oil and here is the terms of that, end of story.
It has to be understood America is not our Friend, when it comes to business and trade
deals. Yes we are friends but friendship has nothing to do with business.
I agree that we should use tariffs and other measures if needed as we should be protecting
profitable and stable businesses.
It is clearly time to scrap the free trade agreements and other free trade pools as they serve
to weaken the first world and its place in it and I am tired of having our advantage eroded.
Selfish, well yes, perhaps so but we must think about our future generations of children first
and the world second. After all we feed a large part of the world through aid and special
arrangements, now we are giving them our jobs and carbon credits and, well you get the
picture. I am hoping we can end the conservative cycle.

Not even the amazing Canadian conservatives.

Our dept is skyrocketing.

Business got a huge tax cut and there is no growth in any sector worth spending that money in. So they are stock piling it.
