I knew there were a lot, but didn't know how many.

Vanni Fucci said:I don't think he was scared, ITN...he began his application for contientous objector status in August 2002, and after the Army lost his application, he applied again in October of 2002. One month later, he was deployed to Afghanistan, where he served honourably, but in non-combative duties. His application was denied after a 25 minute hearing because he stated that should he be assigned to a combat duties, and were he to be attacked, he may not be able to turn the other cheek, which would go against his religious principles...unfortunately, this did not meet the US Army's criteria for contientious objection...and so he finished the rest of his tour in a combat unit in Afghanistan.
He made his vow to not take life before the Iraq war even began...
So for him there were three choices:
1. Honour his obligation to the US Army and go to Iraq, where he may have been called upon to violate his religious principles.
2. Use his body to shield his comrades in arms from an insurgent's RPG, knowing that his family would have been provided for.
3. Break oath, and take his family to Canada and seek refugee status.
Who's to say what was the easiest to make...
I think not said:No one can say whats in his mind. But the fact remains, he could of requested this prior to joining the army, they give you the option, he didn't take it. To me that raises suspicion and I believe rightfully so the US army.

He joined the army in January of 2001 so as to get a college education and be able to support his family. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the US was not involved in too many conflicts at that time...not much killing happening in a peacetime army...
He became a Quaker in January of 2002, 10 months before he was deployed to Afghanistan.
Perhaps if he had known of your schooling program, ITN, this whole tragedy could have been avoided...
I think not said:Well, its not a simple issue anyway you look at it. There is always a chance you will be deployed somewhere, you can't assume anything during peacetime.
I think not said:And yes, part of the reason The Sitrix Fund was created is to provide students a choice. Results are in for this year btw.
29 students from Canada and 19 from the US. Total scholarship amount distributed, $314,000 USD.
YAY! Sitrix.

Threatening me with violence are you? That is pretty brave knowing the chances of you getting thumped are almost nil. It is easy to play tough guy from the safety of your home and behind a key board.
