The Dems need to wake up, the Kerry campaigners screwed up plain and simple. Perceptions matter, the flip flopping crap is what every senator who runs for office has to deal with. However the message got across and coupled with aggressive Republican campaigning to Evangelical followers that was the end of that.

I thought the freakin sky fell on my head in November. Every time I see his face on TV all I want to do is smack him :p

ITN: Excellent post. I see no problem with supporting the troops , and not supporting the war. Nothing complicated about that one. The troops are merely doing what they have been ordered to do. It is those that ordered this, that ( (Personally) hold accountable.

re: brother nation. indeed. Family . and just like any family, there are squabbles. and differences. The idea is to acknowledge that, and maintain the fabric of the relationship. US and CA are in an enviable position , due to our similiarities in culture, out youth, (compared to ....those across the Atlantic ) and many other things.

IF I may......please don't be hurt that CA did not support this Iraq situation. Just respect the fact that we are independant and are able to make up our own minds about things. Family does not imply blind obedience , or unthinking following . If a family member , was jumping off a cliff.....would another jump too ??? Nope.

Let's not forget how hurtful your ambassador was to CA , how belligerantly offensive and threatening?? That was so un nec. and appeared to be nothing more than childish , sour grapes. (can't have my way , so I will sulk and badger you). Sheesh. Collectively, we have feelings too.......but don't go off half cocked when something like this happens. Keep in mind too, that the US(G) is still jerking CA around re: the beef issue. But then , we have come to expect this kind of immature behavior. We will manage. and hopefully be the wiser for it. If this was the other way around.....can you imagine how bullistic the US would get??? That is what makes the two countries so different... and this is also nec in a "family" ....;-)

I do not think American politicians hold a monopoly on saying hurtful things. If I recall, did not one of your back bench (I think that is what it is called) Parliment members say...

"Americans... I hate those bast@rds."

Anti-US rhetoric is prevalent among Canadian politicians and academia and for those who listen south of your borders it is being heard lima charlie (loud and clear)

I do respect it, I also stated I was pleased you didn't, but I can still be a little hurt, my family members don't support me sometimes because they know its in my best interest not to, still love them anyways ;)

The elections weren't rigged mrmom, don't buy that crap, I have a friend who is an attorney and was in Ohio that day observing elections for the Dems. They won, I hate that they did, but they won.

". I didn't vote for the bastard, I find him to be dangerous.

Agree !! * and a hug to you for calling him a bastard. ;-)

Phrases like "I hate those ......bastards" are said in the heat of the moment and out of sheer frustration. Does not make them acceptable.

but what the US Ambassador did is quite different. It was calculating and full of threats. In fact Green peace had a whole site on him....... and how he handled himself while in Canada. on the site was an opportunity to write him and tell him CA thoughts etc. I read a lot of the comments that were made by Canadians on that site...........and not one said they 'hated" him or anything like that. except for an occasional ascerbic remark...... the comments indicated extreme disappointment in being treated like crap. But we weathered it. Ya see, his remarks were hurtful and offensive, and threatening.....but we were NOT 'hurt" .when one recognizes the source, understands the mindset behind it........why take it personally.

(although , some were a tad dissed with being threatened......but it passed)

I my opinion, I think the evangicals give themselves and are given too much credit on getting Bush elected. I believe that it is the way the liberals are stapled to the side of the Democratic Party. I think by seeing the Hollywood elite bash Bush and the elite liberals bash Bush hurt Kerry. The average American does not relate to those people. They are actually turned off by them and their preaching. The see these big money folks living on the high life just critisizing Bush. On the other hand Bush is speaking to these people. It does not matter that Republicans have just as many high rollers and big money people... they do not talk down to the average American as the Democratic elite do.

I think the average person in the Red States looked at Kerry getting on his yacht and said...

"I am not like him."

Then they see Bush hauling a stump out of the ground at his ranch and they say...

"That is more like it."

Call it PR, call it good campaigning, call it what you will. These images were burned into the TV and PC screens for years leading up to the last election. The Democratic Party is out of touch with middle America. When groups like Moveon(dot)org says...

"We own the Democratic Party"

... it further alienates the average American because they do not speak for the average American.

.......and what happened to "anyone but bush"????

I know the deed is done........but can't help but wonder what really happened. Particularly when so many turned out to vote.

situations like this are bound to bring forth all kinds of theories. It is just hard to prove them.

I agree with what you say Eagle, but they made a difference in Ohio. Poor out of work people didn't vote for Bush, the Evangelists did. And by a vast majority our Cuban friends in Florida.

You should know what people from ex-communist countries say, they think the Dems are commies and they all vote Republican.

Funny you mentioned the Cubans. I was down in Miami staying with a buddy of mine whom I served with in the Marines. He is Cuban and is now a lawyer. He told me that many young Cubans are more likely to vote Democratic as opposed to their parents and grand parents who suffered under Castro. He voted for Kerry.
