This is the picture as seen by the X ray scanner.

And this is as realistic as you can get? I don't see what the fuss is about.

oh that is SOOOO not what they showed on TV - not even close!

The noose didn't seem so bad. That is, until they kicked the chair out from under your feet.

It's a lot faster falling off the cliff than it was to climb it.

Have you ever heard of the snowball effect?

Huh. This is what I was referring to:

If you go to youtube and punch in airport xray scanners, you'll get an array of vids to choose from. Here's one.

and then there's this angle on the issue - and that is not something to be taken lightly either.

Some poor guy's head was whacked off while he was travelling.

That was Greyhound were they have NO security at all. I was talking about the airports where they already have a ton of security. And speaking of, here they are slapping all these stupid security conditions at the airports but what have they done to make Greyhound bus travel safer?
CBC News - Calgary - Greyhound introduces security screening of passengers
Funny. And people end up causing trouble on planes anyway, in spite of all this "security". So do you want people to check for weaponry or not? Before, it seemed like you were against scanning. Now it seems you like the idea.

And maybe some don't care if people take a gander at their natural breast but others are not prepared to let people make up stupid excuses just to be able to breakdown personal barriers. For some, it may feel like a violation of sorts. It's kinda like 'You can't travel unless you show us yer t*ts'
lmao Have you ever picked fruit or worked in a packing house? After a while one apple looks the same as another apple.

Honestly, how many average people pose a real threat? I mean seriously? Plastic explosives? When has that been a problem over the last ten years? 9/11 was an apparent hijacking where they used the planes as bombs. Not someone got on the plane and bombed it with plastic explosives!
Apparently they threatened the pilots with weapons. As I showed in another thread (the one about kirpans at the Olys), one can almost use anything as a weapon.
So either one lets the nanny state "protect" them or one doesn't.

Nope to both of ya on that point - I saw the pics on the news story - they're as realistic as you can get.

and Anna, if you're comfortable having people look at your nude body, I've no problem with that, however many of us aren't. Even when I was a young gal and had nothing to hide I wouldn't have been ok with it... now... well... it'll serve 'em right if what shows up on their "strip'emnekkid" machine scorches their beady l'il eyes outta their heads!
lol.

Wow! Didja see the nipples on that guy? And his pickle is so pretty. lmao Like I said, a cartoon. A spooky bluish cartoon.
If I were a prude, I think I'd be more cautious of shoecams and stuff.

We'll agree to disagree Anna - I find it invasive beyond my comfort level - but then when last we traveled and my 12 year old daughter set off a beep, the manner in which they swiped her with their little magic wand seemed intrusive to me.

Personal boundaries do still exist for some people - and the continuum of personal comfort with how much of one's body is private is still, last I checked, a matter of choice; mocking that is unnecessary to the discussion.

Sorry, I didn't mean to seem mocking. I was just trying to be funny.
Anyway, of people feel safer, that's fine. If people feel violated enough to have the things disallowed, disallowing them is fine with me, too.
Canada is a nanny state. It's what people want I guess.

Do I think this newest tool is intrusive? You Bet!!!

Would I let my opinion prevent me from leaving a Canadian Prairie Winter
on my way to somewhere Tropical for a week or two's break? Not a chance!!!

They could look in my ear or up my nose or anywhere else they so choose if it
means I'll be on a hot beach for a week or two in January. Just my opinion...

Or else they'll surface on the internet, like the revealing pictures taken at Disneyworld that occasionally surface.

I seriously doubt that, everything is subject to abuse of course, but the image probably will disappear on its own when the person leaves the booth. To take a positive action to save it and then post it on internet probably will amount to a felony or something. Sure it is possible (anything is possible), but I seriously doubt that it will happen.

And even if it does happen, that only means that stricter precautions must be taken, it doesn’t mean that we give up a fast, reliable and effective technique because somebody may abuse it.

Or you could always drive to Florida and row your way to the Bahamas.

If you don't like it, you still have the option of pat down or frisking, the old way. Personally I wouldn't have a problem going through the X ray machine.

It may be intrusive, but it is also quick, convenient (you don’t have to take off shoes or anything else) and reliable.

As to giving up our privacy, we have been doing that bit by bit for a long time now, with the advent of internet. There is a balance between progress, convenience and privacy. More convenience usually means less privacy. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

You are assuming..

In that case I will assume, as with all other security video, that it will be kept a minimum 8 hrs.. IMO

Yes we are giving up our privacy and for the average person we should not. Giving up so much for so little in return seems pointless. How much security have we gained in the last few years. It seems every 6 months TV crews prove again and again that new procedures and security measures are for not.

Sorry accepted. I might have been a bit thin skinned there, I am actually very shy about showing my body - well, to strangers at least...so I would be terribly uncomfortable in one of those scanners. But like Ron said, I don't think I'd let it stop me from going on a vacation... maybe I'd just have to down a couple or 7 rum n'cokes before I went through security. By then I might render the damn thing unnecessary!:lol:

Seriously though I don't know what the solution is. Seems like people are getting more and more whacky in how far they'll take things, forcing us to find equally whacky solutions. I'm sure I sound like my grandparents now, but sometimes I do wonder what the hell is this world coming to.
