I don't care for his work or the CBC, but it's sad to see someone die this way. And yet another random attack leading to death.

The cbc has been very supportive of the liberal relaxed rules for criminals during trudeau's time and somewhat critical of Harper's hard stance on crime back in the day. Based on this and other stories many of them seem pretty upset. I wonder if they'll be taking a different stance now or they'll still favor soft on crime policies.

Micheal Finlay won’t….be taking a different stance on things I mean.
No, no he will not. I'm afraid his stancing days are over.

In fairness if he could speak on the issue i suspect given his previous stances he'd say the killer should be forgiven and released. And if he killed again we aren't releasing him hard enough.

Suspect identified in killing of CBC producer Michael Finlay

Investigators know who they are looking for in last week’s deadly attack on retired CBC producer Douglas “Michael” Finlay on the Danforth.

Now they just have to find the suspect.

When they do, Robert Robin Cropearedwolf will be charged with manslaughter.

Toronto Police Homicide Det. Jason Hillier announced at 55 Division on Friday and that a warrant has been issued for the 43-year-old suspect’s arrest.

This all stems from an incident on the Danforth at Jones Ave. on Jan. 24 when the well-known, highly-respected, award-winning former CBC producer was pushed from behind onto his face causing him to suffer major injuries.

When Finlay was rushed to hospital it was discovered one of the 73-year-old’s lungs had collapsed and he died a week later.

After waiting for autopsy results and reviewing video, police upgraded the charge from assault to manslaughter, much the same as they did with the similar situation last month on Yonge St., near King St., where an 89-year-old woman died after she was pushed to the ground by a stranger.

Hillier said police have been looking for the suspect in the area but so far have not been able to locate him.

“The public has been so helpful so far in helping us identify him and we are hoping that someone might be able to report to us where he is staying,” he said.

Hillier said while the allegation is that Finlay died after what police believe was an “intentional collision” between the two on the street, he is “hopeful’ now that the suspect knows the outcome “he will contact a lawyer and surrender because that is his best option.”

While police believe this suspect was a stranger to Finlay, he is no stranger to them. Cropearedwolf has been before the courts before after being accused in a jewelry theft case in which Toronto Police said in a 2017 news release more than $2 million was allegedly taken.

Now police are looking for help from the public to locate the Toronto man, described as 5-foot-6, 145 pounds, with a star tattoo on each elbow, and put him before the courts for the city’s fourth homicide of 2023 – the death of a talented man who spent 31 years at the CBC and was merely walking to his pub when he was violently attacked.

With so many random attacks lately, people are starting to wonder just how safe it is to go for a walk in Toronto anymore.

Mayor John Tory said he understands this worry and is working on solutions.

“This is a tragedy, there’s just no other word to describe it,” Tory said. “My heart goes out to the family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones of longtime CBC radio producer Michael Finlay.”

“Every single time one of these incidents takes place, I feel a personal sense of responsibility for making sure that we do everything we can to keep our city safe, even if there is no perfect solution,” he added.

While there is no “magic” remedy, Tory said: “I’m doing everything I can so we can hire more police officers and 911 operators, so the city can hire more paramedics, and so we have outreach workers across our city every single day offering services and support to people who are struggling. I’m also working with other governments to try to address mental health and substance use crises across our city and country.”

He knows it won’t help Finlay but maybe the next person.

In the meantime, if you know the whereabouts of Cropearedwolf, call the Homicide unit at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Robert Robin Cropearedwolf is in the wind.

The 43-year-old Toronto man is a suspect in the Jan. 24 attack on retired CBC producer Douglas “Michael” Finlay on the Danforth.

Finlay, 73, was allegedly pushed to the ground onto his face as he walked to his favourite pub. At a local hospital, doctors discovered one of the former broadcaster’s lungs had collapsed.

He died one week later.

Toronto Police say when they catch up to Cropearedwolf he will be charged with manslaughter.

Detectives believe the two men were strangers.

The Toronto Sun has learned that Cropearedwolf has a long criminal history.

– In 2001, Cropearedwolf was wanted by Calgary Police on “several serious warrants.” Cops wanted him for three counts of break-and-enter, and one count each of mischief over $5,000 and failure to comply with a court order. The outcome of that case is unknown.

– In 2011, a man sharing the same name as Cropearedwolf and a woman named Jennifer Cynthia Bock were arrested in Idaho in connection with a slew of burglaries in Oakland, Calif. A traffic stop revealed a stolen chequebook, bogus driver’s licenses and state ID cards, jewelry, electronics, binoculars, bolt cutters and other tools commonly used during burglaries. Several stolen U.S. passports were also discovered. The outcome of that case is unknown.

Police are searching for the thug who pushed longtime CBC radio producer Michael Finlay to the ground on Danforth Ave. Finlay later died.

– In 2017, Toronto cops charged Cropearedwolf following a series of suspected break-ins in the city’s Entertainment District. According to police, the suspect broke into several stores and stole cash, electronics and jewelry. The haul was allegedly more than $2 million. The outcome of that case is unknown.

– Now, police say Cropearedwolf is a suspect in the city’s fourth homicide of 2023. He is described as 5 foot 6 and 145 pounds, with a star tattoo on each elbow.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Cropearedwolf should contact the homicide unit at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

They must have forgotten that last time he was released and that is why he re-offended.
Obviously, but remember that the important bit is that the REASON they forgot is their grandfather went to a residential school. So - they can't be blamed for forgetting.

A Toronto man has been charged with manslaughter in the alleged random assault of longtime CBC News producer Michael Finlay.
Robert Robin Cropearedwolf, 43, turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday, Toronto police said in a news release.
Police previously said Finlay, 73, was walking along Danforth Avenue in the area of Jones Avenue on Jan. 24 when Cropearedwolf approached and allegedly assaulted him.
Finlay fell to the ground and died in hospital a week later, after which the homicide unit took over the investigation.
Earlier this month Toronto police Det. Jason Hillier said police had no indication Cropearedwolf and Finlay knew one another, calling the incident "a chance encounter."
Hillier added Finlay was conscious when he was taken to hospital and that police spoke to him after the alleged assault.
Police say the accused appeared in court Tuesday.

Why manslaugter?.....Kinda sounds like he meant to beat on him.
Has to do with intent. Much easier to get a conviction for accidental killing the guy than proving he went out with the intention of killing a specific person.
