It is unfortunate that people like Vanni, peapod and edgerunner are unopen to debate.

...how can there be any debate on this tibear...for whatever reason, I am for abortion, and you are against it...our views are diametrically opposed, and neither you, nor I, are going to give an inch on that...

by the way, what are your views on conjoined twins?

"One is the pro-life movement that is by far the larger group where everyone is against the taking of human life under most situations. (Wartime, self defense and possibly in extreme cases of saving another life being the only exceptions.) " tibear

How can you be pro life and pro war ? Talk about inconsistency in an argument. Which I believe you were stressing about at some point tibear.

"Pro-life believers believe that ALL life is precious and that it should be protected and valued."

That was your statement tibear. If all life is valuable how can you conceive of taking an enemy 's life?

Luckily, I've never been in a position where my wife and I needed to discuss aborting a child of our own.
I'm not sure I could agree to aborting my own child.

I clearly remember my daughter calling me one day and she was considering an abortion. She asked for my opinion. I reviewed her situation at the time, and agreed that she should abort the child.
It has always bothered me.

But, I think we all have our own God.
I'm not into attending church. The bible says "where two or more people gather in my name, I will be there".
I think that if the mother can live with the decision, it is not any business of mine. It is between the mother and her God.

About the Pope .....

He is just a monarch with a bigger hat then Prince Phillip.
The Pope is nothing more than a Pet Rock from the 70's.

He claims to have a billion followers ... but they are in the poorest countries on the earth .... and they can't even read.
Since he has been Pope, the drug production and exports from countries which are majority Catholic have increased dramatically.

He "managed" the church affairs for the past quarter century and has been very influential within the church for the past 50 years.
During his time of being Pope, what has he accomplished? Nothing!
He was Pope during the complete time of the child abuse instances in Boston. The Boston church, the bedrock of Catholics within the U.S. is bankrupt!

When I see people filmed on TV with tears in their eyes as they speak about the Pope .... it amazes me.
He is a nobody. He is only what the media tells us he is.
The media has always treated the Pope as a Rock Star.

The guy is dead-man-walking.
The Vatican has a fully equipped hospital .... there was no need to take the Pope to a public hospital. It was just a media ploy. Even when the guy is bedridden, his cronies still know how to get media attention.
When I was a kid, they claimed the Pope was infallible. It is pretty hard to let a Pope retire if he is infallible and God's Man on earth!

Wait until Billy Graham dies!
He was a God with the bomb.
Imagine how "saintly" and "powerful" they'll make him out to be?

I agree with the person who once said "when a man can have a baby, then let him decide if abortion is an option or not".It's a woman's body,so let them decide if they want to have a child or not. I am sort of against private abortion clinics tho..Henry morgenthaler,in particular. I also agree the Pope is totally useless and out of place in the modern worlde, and that is all I'll ever say on this subject..

In the Catholic Church there is no procedure for dealing with a pope who becomes incapacitated.

This could cause a major constitutional crisis in the Church, because medical technology today can keep someone alive way beyond the point where they are capable of functioning.

Over the centuries, the tradition has been for popes to die in office, rather than retire.

zen,

Unfortunately, during wartime, there are situations where humanity has to protect itself from aggressors. I would be all in favour of a peaceful resolution of every dispute, but you and I know that is not always possible.

As for the Pope, I introduced him only as an example of pro-life attitude. It's unfortunate, that some people are so small they can't even recognize a man who is in obvious pain and discomfort but refuses to back down on his pro-life believes. Even though it would be a much easier solution than continuing to live as he is doing.

PDC, your post saying that the Pope is infallible shows your complete ignorance regarding the teaching of the Catholic church. This pope has spoken for the poorest of the poor when noone else has. Many give him direct credit for the bringing down of the iron curtain in Eastern Europe. He has tried reconciling with both the Jews and Protestant Churches. He has begun formal talks with the Church of England about possible reunification of the churches. But I digress, this thread is about abortion and pro-life issues not the Catholic church.
