I agree with Inteligento that people should kill their own meat. There would be a lot more vegetarians around... and a lot less nuts! All one has to do is visit a factory farm in order to be turned off to meat. Their treatment of animals is sick and barbaric. Most have to be pumped full of antibiotics just to keep them alive long enough to make it to the slaughter house.
Sad part is they had it damn good until the truck came took them to the feedlots to turn them into diabetics.

I think I have said this before (on Can Com) that it might be time for a human cull. Humans are too stupid to deserve this planet.

U.S. National Security Study Memorandum 200 (NSSM 200)

NSSM 200 was the definitive interagency study of world population growth and its implications for United States global security, requested by President Nixon in 1974. The study was undertaken by the National Security Council, the CIA, the Defense, Agriculture and State Departments, and the Agency for International Development.

Among its conclusions:

"World population growth is widely recognized within the Government as a current danger of the highest magnitude calling for urgent measures.... There is a major risk of severe damage [from continued rapid population growth] to world economic, political, and ecological systems and, as these systems begin to fail, to our humanitarian values."
I think I have said this before (on Can Com) that it might be time for a human cull. Humans are too stupid to deserve this planet.
It's already happening. Follow the link above and see how many of the suggestions or predictions are happening or have already happened.

I couldn't stomach to read the whole thing but, Ya! I see what you mean. AIDS in Africa was a rather harsh measure though.

aids isnt fast enough and it affects people that probably shouldnt get knocked off. really, on the topic at hand, to kill something for other than food is pretty bloody gross but then hey humans are stupid and selfish for the most part.

If you are getting a meager extra form of retirment income beyond the whopping $990per month taxable income like say a extra $1000 in dividends from your depressed stocks you could submit for a permit to swat the occasional horsefly.

Well Karrie, give some serious consideration to considering the long(er) term ramifications of killing only the reproducing males (or females if that were the case). The proposed cull allows for 1% per year - assuming that only 1% are killed. If the reproductive maturity of these animals occurs 5 years after birth (average), the first 5 years of the cull will realize fewer pups sired annually in the face of a decreasing reproducing male population.... The point is that there is a compounding effect - it's not as simple as having 20 fewer otters per year - the real impact will be far greater.

This is not quite right. Taking males out of the population does not necessarily mean fewer pups are sired. It does mean that in the population, there will be decreased genetic variability, which is equally bad for a rebounding species.

One male will reproduce with many females, given the chance. So reducing the number of breeding males means more opportunity for a smaller number of males. The females still go into estrus, and that is the bottleneck for reproductive successes.

Allow me to rephrase...

Fewer reproducing males represents the potential for fewer pups to be sired... If one wishes to be technical, Assuming that every mating encounter will result in successful fertilization is erroneous. Fewer reproducing males will amplify this potential.

I'd like to clear something up.

If Whitie wants to go hunting otters and seals Whitie can go hunting seals and oterrs.

Absolutely NOTHING seperates anyone from the same rights as another person in the country. There is no such thing as "native rights" and "everyone else rights".

No wonder society keeps getting hosed. It's too freakin' easy.

CCR&F CLEARLY says:

15. (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.

Keep in mind the very treaties we signed with them made them not part of our country.

At the time we did that to opress them, much as blacks in Aparathied South Africa were officially from a handful of "other countries" that were basically reserves as we know them.

They kept being their own people when it sucked for them, let them keep being their own people now.

I just think we need to decide if they are soveriegn or not and leave it at that. If they are its not our problem if you don't have clean drinking water, but we shouldn't be telling you what to do at all.

Check out the Maple syrup campain also. I was at a maple syrup producers convention about 10 years ago or more. There were about a 100 then and most of them have gone out of business. Any that are still in it now are run by a family or business that has another main income and use te syrup as a side line. They will just save it till it sells again. Like Fall - its best on fresh pig anyway.
