Ab won't be joining the US any time soon.
All it would be is an entity that formalizes trade arrangements with other jurisdictions like it does now.
The only real difference is that cash won't be heading to Ottawa
The trade corridor is 2-way,imports entering BC get distributed North, South and East.
That said, there are many exports that currently cross through AB to get to Prince Rupert and port of YVR and there are also many border crossings from Sask & AB down through the US to Washington State, Oregon, California, etc. that can handle those same commodities.
There are options all around

With gas prices popping over $1.60 across Metro Vancouver, many drivers are wondering what's driving the spike.
B.C. Premier John Horgan says it's a supply shortage, but on Monday, one independent economist offered a more controversial take.
(Apparently some LIE-berals- Horgan among them- who desperately want to cover up the carbon tax crap they are dumping on us do not understand how our economy works! The slimy hypocrites IGNORE the steady increase in costs- not just of the made by B.C. LIE-berals- carbon tax- they also forget the made in Alberta by NDPers- carbon crap as well! A DOUBLE TAX- recently added- with HST climbing as well since it’s a tax on a tax! Then since oil is priced in Yankee dollars we must also add in the slow drop in value of Cdn dollars- compared to U.S. and that is courtesy of idiot spending by federal LIE-berals!)
(Once past the LIE-beral taxes, we can then start considering whether B.C. is being PIG HEADED about things like the Kinder Morgan pipeline- the owners have sunk 4.37 billion dollars into the project so far and B.C. premier Horgan has decided to hold it up- with behind the scenes aid of Our idiot Boy Justin! Horgan and other LIE-berals have made a tradition of sucking and blowing simultaneously! They want to bully gas companies out of business AND get great gas deals too! LIE-berals insist they are FOR pipelines- and then run out and put insane conditions up as road blocks to ensure that groups like Kinder Morgan give up in despair of ever meeting mad LIE-beral qualifications!)

LIE-berals envision a future without fossil fuel-not even natural gas- but have NO practical alternative to offer!)
Robyn Allan, a long-time Trans Mountain pipeline foe and former CEO at ICBC says Metro Vancouver's record-high prices are a product of price-gouging on the part of fuel suppliers.
(Again- who cares about alleged price gouging- higher prices means LESS fuel bought according to LIE-beral policy- unless the real carbon crap tax motive was about more gravy for Hogs? And LIE-berals being so entitled they resent oil companies syphoning off entitled LIE-beral gravy?)
Speaking on CKNW's The Lynda Steele Show, Allan argued that the underlying problem facing consumers is a market dominated by a few players who are keeping prices high.
"There's not enough competition in the market, there's too few of the suppliers and they have over the years developed a very severe habit of charging whatever the market can bear," Allan argued.
(They charge whatever the market will bear? Gosh- isnt that the same song ALL business sings? And isn’t that how LIE-berals set tax rates as well- charging as much as they can get without causing a revolution at election time and getting LIE-berals fired? As IS happening here in Ontari-owe!)
"It's not because of crude oil prices, it's not because refining costs have gone up. And there's no supply problem, there is not a lack of supply in our domestic market place."
To make that point, she argued that Burnaby's Parkland refinery -- the only such facility on the South Coast -- has been stockpiling crude oil for "months" to service its refinery.
And she bolstered her point by pointing to data from the Port of Vancouver which shows tankers leaving the facility exporting more gasoline to the U.S. than bringing it in.
She claims that when oil prices cratered in 2014, dropping from more than $100 per barrel, suppliers kept their margins high, pocketing the difference -- and leading to current price problems.
"That margin started to balloon and so instead of passing the benefit of lower prices onto the retail market, they kept a large portion of that for themselves. And we all kind of saw it, prices never really fell at the pump to where we thought they should," she said.
Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst at Gasbuddy.com, says Allan's theory doesn't hold water.
"It's an inconvenient truth for the Robyn Allans of this world, but the reality is I don't work or operate in the land of magic and make believe," he told Lynda Steele.
McTeague suggested that Allan was cherry picking her facts, focussing solely on the gasoline moving through the port of Vancouver.
(Of course she is cherry picking! LIE-berals are so good at cherry picking they could replace Mexican migrant fruit pickers and put Mexicans out of work!)

"Yes, there is premium gasoline that is exported, about 5,000 barrels a day, representing maybe about 11 or 12 per cent of what Parkland produces," McTeague said.
"But we are importing 35,000 barrels a day from the United States. Last time I checked, 35,000 minus 5,000 or 6,000, that's 29,000 barrels a day that we need," he said.
McTeague said he has long spoken about the lack of competition in the oil industry. But he said the root cause of the pain Metro Vancouver drivers are dealing with at the pump is a lack of supply, and a resulting reliance on foreign fuel that makes the province "price takers."

Pierre Trudeau created Petro Canada as “a Cdn window into the oil industry” and Petro Canada became the usual LIE-beral money pit- never making a penny in spite of being granted FREE access to oil fields that private companies had to buy into! "The reality here is that we've painted ourselves into a corner. Higher demand, less opportunity, a constrained Trans Mountain pipeline, which she opposes, which would bring down the equivalent of building another refinery with 50,000 barrels of fuel," he said.
"All those things are locked in."
