Jerry A. Coyne is a professor of Ecology and Evolution at The University of Chicago. He is the author of Why Evolution is Trueand the forthcoming Faith vs. Fact: Why Science and Religion are Incompatible.

Ah but scientism is religion. While faith in religion is scorned faith in science is lauded. So this person is most likely a believer in global warming and he believes in Darwins lunatic theory. When did science become anything other than a method of revelation. He also states that a person with religious conviction cannot practce science because they are incompatable interests. So people who die while undergoing chemo therapy are also the victims of faith.

Holistic treatment. Herbs, berries, sage and hiyiyis is treatment? That my dear is placebo.
Certain herbs like canibids have been proven to cure some cancers. SOmetimes a change of lifestyle will cure cancer. Chemo might cause remission in cancer but it will not cure it. Even with chemo she may have died. But then the pill pushers would have said "we did all we could to save her" and the holy rollers would have said it was gawd's will and this would never have made the news. The main effect of chemo is to make Big Pharma and some doctors rich.

Considering the poor girl died nearly a year ago...

And she didn't just have traditional medicine. She was being treated by her family dr.(real phd ) and an oncologist from McMasters Hospital.

The OP article is meant to make you angry and hasn't got it's facts straight.

When the article blames "cultural sensitivity" it sounds more like another attack by the right wing on what it perceives to be liberal thinking or over-influence in society. In fact as shown in its narrative it is society's willingness to succumb to religious influence because of its right wing political correctness that is the real problem.

this one talks about the fact that she was seeing an oncologist and a family doctor.

Here's one that talks to the family and gets their reasoning
Makayla Sault went to controversial Florida clinic for ‘counselling,’ not medical treatment: mother | National Post

Unless of course you're happy with only that one source.

oh and the charges against the insitute were dropped "department had determined there was insufficient evidence to “pursue further legal action.”

The OP is bigoted and many of the responses are too; white superiority in medication, technology, intellect. Brainwashing is strong with this crowd.
Interesting that comment considering how much of our western medicine has seen major advancements in medical procedures, technologies, and concepts from India over the last 20-25 years or so.

I've chosen non-traditional therapy when the standard procedures/medications didn't work. But those were last resorts, not my first or second choice. Although the one non-traditional therapy I tried I sure as hell would give it another go in a heartbeat. It won't heal me but man, it sure reduces the pain substantially.

Chemo is no mystery. The trick is getting it to kill the cancer before the patient, but I have yet to hear of any non-traditional cancer "treatment" or cure that actually did anything other than one off occurances that more than likely had nothing to do with the treatment.

I figured.

Of course you did.

well as long as you know what the hell you're talking about...

But maybe you could cut to the chase and just have the conversation with your self in your head.
