The teachers don't make the rules, they are made by the a combo of people; trustees, parents etc. the teachers have to operate within those boundaries. Some do it better than others but none the less there is policy and procedure to be followed. They don't operate in a vacuum.

The teachers lacking sense are a news item. The teachers who get it right, never get broadcast.

Well that's true of pretty much everything though, isn't it? That is exactly where the common sense aspect of it all really should come into play.

We read about a nasty case of a police officer going overboard on a takedown what, a couple of times a year, maybe? But every single time it does, it rallies the troops to condemn all officers of the law. Read about a kid doing something tremendously stupid, next thing every one is talking about how bad kids are now a days. Read about something like the OP, and the entire education system is gone straight to hell.

I mean, not to make light of the over the top reaction in the OP, stupid is stupid, but we should always be standing back and saying, "Ok, this is one isolated incident." At least for the most part we probably should, we should be using it as an example of where we want to draw the line, in this circumstance, between the innocent play of children and the adult interpretation of symbolism.

Using common sense seems to be a thing of the past. I don't know if teachers are simply totally without deliberately or if they are born without it.

Don't blame teachers. They don't make the policies. They are just required to blindly follow them.

Like the teacher who suspended the little girl who was shooting her little friend with a soap bubble gun, the child said "first I shoot her with the bubbles , then she shoots me with the bubbles"? The people who make the rules are teachers before they are principals.

A Virginia school district has suspended an elementary school student after he allegedly pointed a pencil at another student and made gun noises.

Seven-year-old Christopher Marshall was suspended from Driver Elementary School after his teacher witnessed the incident. Marshall is in the second grade.

Paul Marshall, the boy’s dad, thinks the school overreacted. “When I asked him about it, he said, ‘Well I was being a Marine and the other guy was being the bad guy.’ It’s as simple as that.”

Imbeciles are found in all walks of life. Why screw around with human nature? Kids do what they do for two main reasons............curiosity and copying others!

So glad I am not a kid nowadays; we used to play soldier and guns all the time in my neighborhood. Plastic toy guns, finger and thumb, tree branches, hockey sticks; whatever worked.

I feel sorry for kids these days.

I feel pity for the adults that so totally over react to kids playing games.

I thought having a teaching degree and university education was supposed to increase your intelligence.

Naw just give you the right to have a desk facing the other direction.

Bingo. You can't punish a kid for copying the adults around him.

For sure, but sometimes a little imagination doesn't hurt. -:)

Just because you are intelligent does not mean you are smart.
Imagine the paper work that went with this situation I could not
help but think they would destroy at least one tree of paper on
this one. My question is when will the adults grow up?

Absolutely

Next thing you know some imbecile will pass a law forbidding people to feed kids bananas.

And don't forget, carrots look like missiles, and applies could pass for grenades. And if you mush bread back into a dough, it coudl pass for plastic explosive.
