A Virginia school district has suspended an elementary school student after he allegedly pointed a pencil at another student and made gun noises.

Seven-year-old Christopher Marshall was suspended from Driver Elementary School after his teacher witnessed the incident. Marshall is in the second grade.

Paul Marshall, the boy’s dad, thinks the school overreacted. “When I asked him about it, he said, ‘Well I was being a Marine and the other guy was being the bad guy.’ It’s as simple as that.”

So glad I am not a kid nowadays; we used to play soldier and guns all the time in my neighborhood. Plastic toy guns, finger and thumb, tree branches, hockey sticks; whatever worked.

I feel sorry for kids these days.

guess all of us would have been suspended at one time or another...bang, bang...

this is not preventable, he is a kid, kids do not have the same awareness of meaning as an adult

wow. Unreal what paranoia does to people's heads.
A friend and I cooked up somethin in science lab one time and put some in the rubber cap on the bottom of the teacher's chair. He sat down and a few inches of the chair leg blew up. Nowadays we'd likely be in Gitmo or something as 13 year old terrorists instead of getting a week's detention and an invoice for the chair.

Um, well, we were also banned from the lab while unsupervised.

I had completely forgotten about this...I remember grade 10 science class...we were doing blowup experiments. There was this huge metal container at the front of the class with all these house hold chemicals combined. It had a tube leading from it. He picked the smartest kid in class and when he gave the signal she was to blow into this tube. Well Wailing blew too soon and whamo blasto the thing went off and it blew the top off and almost took his frigging head with it. I remember him having white powder all over his face and he freaaaaaaaaaaaaaaked out...like wow,,,,

thanks for stirring up that memory...I am laughing my *** off, omg.

That seems like the altitude reached by said teacher when the blown up chair-leg startled him. lol He was definitely not impressed at the time, but later said his bunch used to pull similar stunts when they were kids and gave us back pats for being inventive. lol

I thought having a teaching degree and university education was supposed to increase your intelligence.
I think people have just so much intelligence and only things schools can do is teach you to think and to increase your knowledge. How you use those two things determines your level of intelligence, IMO.

Absolutely agree, a degree does not reflect intelligence or ability to make good choices. University broadens one's knowledge base and proves ability to analyse. It also increases knowledge in a particular field which can be very specific.

Not surprising, with what other decisions apparently are being made by the schools. Dodgeball may be going the way of the dodo as it "promotes bullying", and they also want to ban kids from having best friends (not sure where I saw that, but it was a couple of days ago). Why not just save them all a lot of time and stick every stinkin' on of those "snot-nosed brats" into bubbles. Bubble Boys and Bubble Girls. Fun for everyone! Sheesh!!! Let kids be kids!!!!

Using common sense seems to be a thing of the past. I don't know if teachers are simply totally without deliberately or if they are born without it.

Okay, to be fair, I once got a call from school from a teacher telling me my son had been kept in for recess because he stabbed a girl in the hand with a pencil. "But don't worry, I'm dealing with her," she said.

My jaw dropped, and I asked why SHE was being dealt with, and not my son. Turns out, she'd been bullying my kid, and had literally held him down when he'd tried to extricate himself from the situation. So he'd stabbed her.

The teachers lacking sense are a news item. The teachers who get it right, never get broadcast.

Just because you are intelligent does not mean you are smart.
Imagine the paper work that went with this situation I could not
help but think they would destroy at least one tree of paper on
this one. My question is when will the adults grow up?
