I went down to Alabama a few weeks ago and had a religious experience. A man of God welcomed me into his home, poured us both cups of English tea and talked about what has been happening to Jesus Christ in the land of Donald Trump. My host was Wayne Flynt, an Alabaman who has made the people of the southern US his life’s work. A 76-year-old emeritus professor of history at Auburn University, he has written empathetically about his region in books such as Poor But Proud. A Baptist minister, he still teaches Sunday school at his church and delivered the eulogy at last year’s funeral of his friend Harper Lee, author of To Kill a Mockingbird.

You are right .......That was apparent from the moment of his grand announcement to run. To measure him by other standards (the "usual ) ones) might be a mistake.
so.......the usual language does not have the same meaning.

eg: Performance, leadership, competence, (mental and otherwise ;-) diplomatic skills are al beingredefined into the mode of the American value , not the universal ones.

OK......How do you define successful as applied t oTrump?? Remember the usual definitions don't apply t o him. Just like his "standards" are not the usual " standards. ( or ethics for that matter) We are dealing with americanism in a full on way..... We are also seeing isolationism. All that is fanatically supported by the Trumpites. How will his "success" be defined for them??

Mind you understanding GROUP THINK can be a challenge. Mass fusion of an ideology?? something a kin to fanaticism.Some people are more vulnerable t group think than others....... as they need the power of a group to support their beliefs. and REINFORCE them. Independent thinkers are not as prone to the syndrome.

I realize that.

If all these threads were about Trudeau then i wouldn't think much of it but when threads about America's leader out number threads about our own leader (let alone our country), it seems a little weird. I see Canadian Content Forum in the top left corner of the page and strangely this forum is almost devoid of it..

I can count 3 threads + 1 repeat thread pertaining to Canada on the live forum feed right now.

1 about NAFTA with TRUMP in the title

When you have 3 Trump threads + 1 one thread about NAFTA with Trump in the title. And if you want to include American themed threads then the ratio is even higher when compared to Canadian themed threads.

I am going with the 36 percent. reference the links I provided . but washington post, BBC and CNN are using the same number.

Now......if something changes...... I am happy to look at it .


Look.....I dn't want to see any leader fail.....as it is not a great thing for the country. What is happening is that the US is not being seen as the leader it used to be. The world dynamics are changing rapidly . New alliances are being forged....... and the US is not given the kind of deference it used to get. This might be ok........ as long as Trump and his gang realize it. They cannot have isolationism and be world leader at the same time. without appearing totally schizophrenic. Perhaps that doesn't matter now...... One thing is certain: He promised to shake things up.......and he haas, and is almost daily. The problem might be in HOW he is doing it.
