Our Juniors won their first game of the per-competition series shutting out Finland 5 - 0. They play the Czechs on Wednesday (4PM PST on TSN1, 2, 3 and 4). Friday they will play Switzerland. The preliminaries get underway on Boxing Day.

Dylan Strome was named captain of Canada’s team for the world junior hockey championship.

Canada up by 2 with 6 minutes to go in the opening period against the Czechs.

And the Captain - Dylan Strome makes it 3 zip with just over 3 minutes left in the 1rst P

At 9:12 in the 2nd P, Canada's gets its 2nd PP goal of the game and goes up 4 - zip.

Cirelli just made it 5 zip Canada after he broke away from the Czech defenders and beat the goalie with a quick shot to the back of the net.

Switzerland is next up on our Junior's list of teams to beat. TSN is carrying the game at 4PM PST.

GO CANADA, GO JUNIORS! :canada:

We will see what happens Monday against the Ruskies and the USA on 12/31.

We will for sure, IRBS but it would be nice to see the kids go into the game against Russia riding on a 3-game pre-comp victory.

Good game for our Juniors even though they gave up a 3 zip lead, they were able to come back and get the 4th goal in OT and the win over Switzerland. For those that were thinking the Canadians needed a bit of adversity before facing Russia on Boxing Day, their wish was fulfilled and the Juniors answered. Really looking forward to Boxing Day.

One of my favorite days of the year - Boxing Day and IIHF hockey - Yeah!
Watching the Swedish team play the Danish team at the moment. The Swedes are odds on favorites to win the championship but I am hoping that our Juniors will have something to say about that.

Swedes ahead by 2 goals to zip after the 1rst P. This game will be followed by the US vs Latvia but fans of Finland or the Czechs can switch to watch them play half way through the US game. Then the Most Important game of the day - Canada vs Russia! - pre-game show starts at 4PM PST on TSN 2.

GO CANADA - GO CANADIAN JUNIORS! :canada:

Oh........the Spengler Cup held in Davos, Switzerland - which Canada won last year - is also on today and starts in about 5 minutes on TSN1 - GO CANADA! :canada:

It's that most wonderful time of the year- hockey all day!!!!!!!!!!!

Canada had a good fore check game throughout & power play was awesome with 3g's . Russian goals were from a distance as they appeared hesitant to charge Carter Hart's goal crease. Canadian were a bit faster but Russians a bit more physical. Great start to the tournament.

Canada easily won their game over Slovakia tonight with a 5 - 0 shut-out. Ingram was in the net for Canada replacing Hart but he was barely tested with on 6 SOGs for the Slovaks. Canada had over 70. My player of the game for the Slovaks would have been their goalie who though letting in 5 goals, managed to stop over 65 others whilst his team couldn't find the net all night.

Our kids have the day off tomorrow then will be back on Thursday to play Latvia.

total domination - 10 straight home wins for Canada in IIHF

It's getting damn close if it isn't there already

this team of youthful players look so strong that it would not surprise me in the least if Canada goes back to having the majority of players in the NHL real soon

Yanks out shot Rus 37-27 though it appeared the latter got better quality shots. Thankfully, they were stopped by good goal tending. Thought USA was a bit under sized and lacked the physicality to move Rus attackers from the puck. Smaller players have a tendency to wear down in a tournament series and it will be interesting to see how they deal with Canada.

This was terribly one sided with Raddysh scoring four goals. Canada looks unstoppable as they have many snipers who can readily find the back of the net.

It's likely to be a toss up between Canada/US/Rus/Sweden, especially as games become one game knockouts.

The Latvians were pretty darn good through the first part of period 1 testing Hart several times while the Canadians were a tad lackluster in the beginning but that all changed in the latter part of the period and from then on our Juniors ruled the ice. Unfortunately, they also spent way too much time in the penalty box - way too much time. They have to get back to playing clean hockey or the U.S. will make them pay. Hart let in a couple of iffy goals especially the break-away goal by the Latvian player - will be interesting to see who gets the start against the U.S.

Biggest shock of the tourney so far is the collapse of last year's Gold Medal team the Fins.
