CO-OP Game Day brand has all the Rider snacks and odd stuff. They have pancake batter with green specks this year. Do you have the Rider green windshield washer fluid?

Oh and the Rider fishing lures. They actually work on jackfish.

I thought it was the Co-Op but wasn't 100% sure........will definitely be on my list of places to visit. Nope. no WW fluid yet - that will also be on my list. Ron was good enough to send me the fishing lures last year - Rock on Ron. Haven't found any fish big enough to use them on in Canim but they make pretty cool ear rings. LOL!

Every CO-OP gas bar has all the goodies. I saw a gal at a game wearing them. You aren't alone. I sent my bro the WW fluid label. He just slipped it on another jug, filled it with water and green dye. Try getting on a plane with a jug of WW fluid that has methyl alcohol in it.

Then it is a good thing I will be driving back - that way I can fill my car with Rider goodies and not worry about shipping them home.

Gotta give it to the Stamps, they deserved this one – for one thing they played a cleaner game and for another, the players filling in for injured team mates did a good job in their positions. Walter and Williams were solid on play after play. Charleston Hughes made an early impact on the TO offense when he sent Ricky Ray to the locker room after a hard clean hit to the turf. Ricky would not return to play but did come back to the sidelines later in the game in his civies.

Chris Jones has a lot of work to do with his young defensive line – they were great on some plays and absolutely dismal on others. This was seen most clearly when Bo Levi Mitchell found not a lane but highway to the end zone open up for him – probably the easiest TD he will ever score.

Zach Collaros was thrown into the game cold and though he managed to get a TD for the Argos and was effective running the ball himself on several plays, he was unable to overcome the Stamps D-line who pressured him all night.

There were no really spectacular plays in the game – no great run backs though Rob Maver limited any chance TO had by continually nailing big kicks deep in TO territory. His first two punts saw the Argos conceding a total of 4 pts to the Stamps.

The only cloud in the Stamps sky was Rene Paredes 39 consecutive FG record coming to an end on a 22 yard attempt. He would later boot one in from the 42 but the streak was over.

Kevin Glenn was also knocked out of the game early in the 4th Q, he would return to the sidelines but not to the game. Bo Levi Mitchell came in to replace him.

One of the funnier moments in the game came when the normally cool Dave ****enson* absolutely freaked out on the sidelines in an attempt to get the officials attention after hearing that the chains would not be used to measure the exact ball placement on a 3rd D. He was finally able to get a time-out called after having sent his punt team on the field only to call them back and send the offense back out. This also discombulated the Argos who were forced to call a time-out of their own to make personnel changes. In the end, Bo got the 1st D and the Stamps got a FG on what would otherwise have been a TO on downs.

*(You've got to be kidding.........you censor a guys name?????)

Scott Milanovich would only say that the injury is to Ricky’s shoulder and they will be having it looked at. Hopefully it is nothing serious as Ricky missed 4 games last year with injuries and the way his season has been going he is on pace to set yet more records. Speedy recovery, Ricky.

I also hope that Kevin’s injury is not serious and that we see him back in the next game.

Final Score: 35 – 14 Calgary

I've missed out on a few CFL games cause I've been struck by the Caribbean cricket league. Tomorrow is the finale for this inaugural season and I have not enjoyed a sport like this in a long time. What an incredible series it has been.

I thought he was going to either sh*t a house or get some air time judging by he was flapping his arms.

I was hoping a for an Argo win of course but the Stamps earned the win even with losing Glenn. Mitchell did a great job, he wasn't nervous like Collaros was. Poor kid, I thought he was going to piss his pants.

Even though I was cheering for Argos, I was disappointed to see Paredes miss what should have been an easy FG

I'm looking forward to the Rider playing the Eskies, I have my 4 pack of Mike's chilling, a new pair of Rider flip flops to add to the pile and some tenderloin marinating. It's going to be a good day.

Go Riders!

Glad to hear you have enjoyed the cricket matches, gopher........though I have to say you have missed some truly outstanding games in the CFL this year..........not too worry though we are just getting close to the half-way mark of the season - plenty of great CFL football to watch yet. GO CFL, GO!

It was pretty funny, petros. We are used to the antics of Huf and the emotion of Kavis but to see Dave go off like that! - what a kick. Chris Jones is another one not afraid to show his feelings - when the TO D-line left the highway open for Bo - you could feel the disgust through the TV. He must go through a lot of head-sets the way he is always tearing them off like that.

Huf makes sure that Bo gets a lot of practice - he's a smart coach and well aware of being prepared for the worst case scenario. Bo's definitely on the RedBlacks list of QBs to watch this season. Plus, he has had a few more game starts than Zack - and that makes a big difference.

The look on Rene's face after he missed was priceless.........like WTF how did I miss that one? Then to see him boot the 42-yarder clearly through the uprights - yet another 8O moment. Betcha Paul is secretly smirking away - he thought that ruling regarding a non-FG which let Rene keep his record was BS. Yeah, Paul but had it been YOU, the rule would have been right on, eh?

Just getting ready to sit down and take notes on the Bomber vs Ti-Cat game. After the last couple of games I've seen, I figure all bets are off until the second half unless Hank is a pistol today. Hope to see Andy get back to pre-injury play - he was a little off in his first game back. The weather is supposed to be nice today in Guelph unlike the downpours of past games.

Should the Bombers pull off a miracle - I would be genuinely happy for Bomber fans - they truly deserve something to cheer about even if the game isn't in their beautiful new stadium. One on the road would really lift the team spirits too - always harder to win an away game. Would hope that Ti-Cat fans can muster a decent crowd for the game today - hate to see the empty seats in such a small venue. Though, saying that it does show who the true die-hard fans are - they are the people I applaud.

Hoping for some good football today and may the BEST team win.

P.S. Jock Sanders won't be starting for the Riders today - good move - wasn't happy with him last week and it is that time in the season when the coach HAS to send a message to the players. Weldon Brown is in for him. There's a lot of speculation on the Sask fan forum that Corey will be playing Drew today if DD isn't sharp. I'm more interested to see what Richie Hall has in store for the Esks offense - we have to stop Mike - give him time and the guy is deadly - catch him early and we have a great chance of limiting the damage. We need Kory to start early this game - no waiting for the second half, if the Esks D is pressuring DD too much we have to use the ground game to get yards on the ground for 2 and short. But most of all, BALL control guys - hold onto that pigskin like your lives depended on it - for sure the outcome of the game does. Rock on Riders!

I would never knock another person's support of the sport they love, gopher - good on you for being such a fan. Thank you for your kind words about my updates........do hope you get to see a few of the upcoming games.

Holy sh*t!!! Another nail biter for the Riders but 7-1 is a great place to be no matter how you get there.

I was a tad anxious going into the game, petros. As the game progressed my anxiety eased as I watched the Sask D getting to Mike Reilly. Then as I saw how settled DD was and how he was able to find WIDE OPEN receivers, I got over all that and just settled in to enjoy the game - no worries at all. I knew they would come up winners because this is not last year's team - this team has heart and soul and the WILL to win. BTW, this guy was a HUGE part of our victory.

Kory Sheets - the first player in the history of the CFL to meet and exceed 1000 yards rushing in his first 8 games.

ROCK ON MR SHEETS - YOU GO GUY!

Happy as I am with the win, I do have a bone to pick with a couple of the players because I do not believe in letting anyone off the hook for bad conduct. Diamond Ferri is first on my list - bench him for at least half a game, Corey - he needs to learn that his conduct effects the entire team - he has given up a total of 60 yards in two games due to his obj cond/unnecessary roughness calls. Dwight Anderson - just when I thought he had a handle on his mouth he draws another 15-yarder - STFU Dwight - nice to see Corey reaming you a new one on the sidelines after the penalty. (Nice interception though). Weldon Brown - now I watched every single replay of the hit on Mike Reilly and I still don't know if it was a helmet-to-helmet hit or not. If the league reviews and finds that it was, then fine him for sure and Corey Chamblin can find some community service for him to do. John Chick - though he didn't have any penalties called against him, there were at least two of his hits on Mike that I thought were excessive - you are a great player John but sometimes your brute strength gets in the way of your brain - ease it up a bit.

I decided not to post anything on the Ti-Cats win over the Bombers due to the fact that the latter team failed to show up for the game. ROCK ON HAMILTON!

EE has come a long way and their losses have been near misses unlike the Bombers who keep getting slaughtered. Next week, Riders will probably give DD a break and play Willy. I like Willy, he can take the stress.

I think will see EE take CGY down in at least of the two back to backs they have coming up.

It was another Sheets show that is for sure but he was absolutely exhausted. He and Darian have one thing in common. They love the fall games in the CFL because it's nice and cool. I do too. I'm going to be going to a few more games yet this fall. I'll be wearing my long johns.

Agree with you on the Eskimos future, petros.....if........they can keep Mike Reilly healthy.......Kavis' really needs to get through to him that he can't win the game all by himself - no matter how hard he tries - and boy he really gives it his all. I winced so many times watching him take those hits last night, my wincing muscles were sore. Several of the hits may very well have been game-breakers for the Esks as Kerry is showing that he is getting a tad long in the tooth. Fred's another one who tries to win games by himself but that will quickly work against the team unless they find someone who can also step up and help their QB out.

I do believe that the Esks will win at least one against Calgary - oh please Universe make it so. They have great fans and I would love to see their support rewarded.

Just came over from the Sask fan forum and there is a lot of chat about sitting DD - I am against that idea unless we run the score up so high the Bomber's couldn't win unless we forfeited  - then, yeah put Drew in for sure so he can get some reps. We have to keep him up to par in case - shudder - anything happens to DD. Also, winning teams have a way of slacking off a bit against the underdogs and I don't want our guys to lose a single bit of their edge.

Getting close to long-john weather here, the nights are definitely cooler but the bright side is - no more mosquitoes!

Riley certainly did take a pounding last night but he was on his game as was Stamps. They have nothing to be ashamed of that is for sure.

For the Riders the man of the day was Milo, no bones about it.

I say open with Drew and bring Darian in if in the unlikely event Bombers are performing. I'm going to have to put some pressure on HR and get my @ss in the seats again for Labour Day. If not I'll have to settle for Family Fun Day with my niece and nephew for my live Rider fix. I have to meet up with Terry the Gopher to get his piece done. It'll be fun and yes I'll take pics.

I'll be watching the Banjo Bowl from the cab of the combine on the crap top which means a small screen and cranking up CKRM to hear what's going on. No GPS EZ Steer on the combine so no flip flops either. :( It's not so bad I guess, just a few years ago that would have been impossible. It would have been just listening on CKRM

For EE, last night should have been a wake up call that they do have a team with the ability to win. I hope last night's loss lights a fire under their asses and they pour on the gas in McMahon like the good ol' days.

8OGreat reports and analyses, Mowich.

You ever bet ? Betcha you would clean up.

Taloola also.

Thank you very much, Nug........I appreciate the feedback. Awhile ago, I joined the Sask, Horsemen, and Eskimo fan forum. Also signed up with the CFL fan forum. I get a lot of info from them. Several of the members attend their various team's practices then report back to the forum. That's how I found out about Rob Bagg running stairs so soon after his injury. I also learn exactly what fans are saying about their teams as well as their thoughts concerning other teams in the league. From what I gather Rider fans are almost universally made fun of - which is neat because even though they mock us, they can't stop talking about us.

As for betting, nope - learned a long time ago that I have to make my own luck. I think I've won two things in my entire life and none of them were gambling bets. Too bad too, because I would have cleaned up betting on Montreal last week. I always take Schultzie's Challenge and have beaten him 2 or 3 times so far.

I'm watching the re-broadcast on TSN2 right now - was rather choked when they didn't replay the game on their station later Saturday evening. I usually catch that one too. Knowing the outcome gives me the chance to watch the game with a more critical eye. Always on the look-out for improvements in the team.

I can't believe that after all the tapes that all the teams have watched on Kory, they still have trouble containing him - mind you after just watching Weston's little deke for a first, he's no slouch either.

Darian almost threw another interception.....another 'there but for..' moment. I swear someone is guiding that ball out of his hands at times, he's come soooo close, I've held my breath.

I always watch the replays but this time I am paying particular attention to Darian so I can make my final judgement on whether or not he should sit. Still leaning towards playing him. No talk at all of Drew getting more reps in practice so far - if I start hearing that, then CC may very well be leaning in your direction.

Sometimes, I wish I could reach into the TV set, grab Rod Black by the neck and slap him silly. That man makes me cringe and for some really strange and almost creepy reason he seems to get more than his fair share of Rider broadcasts. Almost as if TSN has it in for us............they should tread lightly though as a look at their ratings might remind them, broadcasts of any Rider game routinely garner a larger audience than any other CFL team.

Just watched the Fred Stamps/Mike Reilly drive for the Esks first TD - a thing of beauty that - Mike has such strength in that arm of his - beautifully executed powerful passes followed by the athletic catches of Fred - yeah, that's great football. That one's on Brack, he missed his assignment on Stamps.

Dad had a transistor radio in his old combine long before he traded up to the more modern models that came equipped with a radio - that was the cat's PJs for my Dad. I can remember bringing him lunch sitting in the pick-up listening to the game. Dad eventually got on the Exhibition board and through contacts there was able to meet and get to know Ron Lancaster and George Reed. The day he met them was a high point in his life. I remember how happy he was to be able to meet his heroes.

I'll be cheering for Edmonton all the way even though their fans are busy trashing us for the hit on Reilly that resulted in the TO. I checked everywhere today and no word on whether Weldon Brown will be fined or not. Not that things are going to get any easier for Mike having to face Charleston Hughes. I'm almost beginning to think Mike has some kind of zen pain thing going for him. I thought Buck could take a hit.........but this guy is something else. Still, no one is invulnerable and his loss to the team would be immeasurable.

I don't think I've mentioned this before but we Rider fans owe a debt of gratitude to Brendan Taman. He not only went out and got the talent we needed to build this team, he picked guys that were able to quickly fit in with the current regime. Think where we would be without the talent and skill of George Cortez, petros. The guy has a great ability to make adjustments during the game and that is something we sorely lacked before. It gives us the ability to make the correct personnel changes and assignments on the run. GC is only one of the people Brendan brought to the team. This team really wants to win, they have the same business like attitude I so admired in Trestman's Alouettes. It wins games. So, though I never thought I would be doing so, thank you Brendan Taman.

I read an interview in the LP, I think it was, with Corey Chamblin. One of the things he was asked about was erring on the side of caution when we were so close to the end zone. Corey's answer was - go for the points, always go for the points. I agree, heck Milo got us 15 all on his own.

How can you not?

Too true, petros. I think one of the reasons for his almost universal support goes to the type of person Kory is compared to say others in his category. Not once, in an interview have I heard Kory talk about himself first, he always mentions the Big Guys who do the blocking for him, the support he gets from the team and the coaches. With every right to be crowing about how great he is, it is refreshing to see him not doing so. Rock on Kory.

**************

Labor Day denotes the midway mark in the CFL season and so far it has been a great one for many teams – not so great for others.

Since the season is almost half over it is not a bad time to have a look at the standings to date.

In the East, Toronto tops their division with 5 wins and 3 losses in 8 games and a total of 10 points. Their home record is 3 and 2. The away record is 2 and 1. Their points for and against record is: 244 – 209. Their record vs their division is 3-0-0.

Hamilton is dead even with 4 wins and 4 losses for a total of 8 points. Points for and against: 203 to 219. They’ve won 2 and lost 2 at home while winning 2 and losing 2 on the road. Record vs division: 3-1-0.

Montreal is 3 and 5 for a 6 point total with 195 points for and 239 against. At home they have won 2 games and lost 3 while winning 1 on the road and losing 2. Their record vs division is 1-2-0.

Winnipeg has won 1 game and lost 7 for a total of 2 points. They have given up more yards than they have earned 167 as opposed to 247. They have yet to win a game at home while losing 4 of them. Their away record is 1 win and 3 losses. They are 1-5-0 in the Eastern division.

In the West, Saskatchewan has a 7 win, 1 loss record for a 14 point total. They have scored more points – 261 then they have given up – 177 and have a perfect 3 wins at home while losing 1 on the road and winning 4. They are 3-1-0 in their division.

Calgary is second in the standings with 6 wins and 2 losses for 12 points. They too have a perfect 3 win home record while losing 2 on the road and winning 1. They have scored a total of 261 points while having 200 scored against them. They sit 2-2-0 in the division.

The BC Lions currently sit in 3rd place in the division with 5 wins and 3 losses for 10 points. They have had a total of 203 points scored against them while scoring 207 points against other teams. They have played one more game at home then Calgary and Sask and they too have a perfect 4 wins in BC Place. On the road they have won 1 game and lost 3. They sit 3-1-0 in this division.

Edmonton after playing 8 games has won 1 and lost 7 for 2 points. They have earned 188 points while giving up 235 and sit 0-4-0 in the division. At home they’ve lost every game – 4, while winning 1 on the road and losing 3.

One of the most interesting stats for me is the points for/points against records. Sask actually has given up fewer points than any other team in the league while also scoring more – 261 to 177. Winnipeg on the other hand has given up more points than they have scored 167 to 247. Those stats alone tell you a lot about how a team is doing.

Another interesting stat is that the West sits above the East in every single category so far. Rock on Western Division.

Winnipeg announced three new signings this week - a new QB was not among them. Mike-Sims Walker has been added to the practice roster. He had a great collegiate record of 184 receptions for 2,561 yards in 46 games and was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 3rd round of the NHL draft. Unfortunately, an early injury sidelined him in his rookie year. However, in his next three seasons with the JJ’s he recorded 14 TDs off 11 receptions for a total of 1,648 yards before being released to the St Louis Rams. He was released by the Rams and returned to the JJs but suffered a season ending injury.

Erin Kelly and Jason Boltus have been inked to the practice roster – both are former Ti-Cats.

Winnipeg also announced they have released Isaac Anderson and Justin Palardy while adding Brody McKnight to the roster.

I guess we will have to wait until next year to see if Winnipeg gets serious about their QB position because right now that is the main problem holding the Bombers back, IMHO.

Gibson’s Finest Players of the Week were announced.

Kory Sheets head the list – no surprise – as the Offensive Player of the Week – this is the second time he has been so honored. Back in July he was named Offensive Player of the Month.

Dee Webb, Ti-Cat DB was named Defensive Player of the Week. Webb was instrumental in getting the Cats back to .500 after returning an interception all the way for a TD then adding a big tackle later in the game.

Special Teams Player for the Week was Tyron Carrier after he returned a kick for 90 yards and a TD.

And Montreal’s Eric Deslauriers was named the Canadian Player of the Week for his outstanding 57-yard clutch grab very late in the 4th Q which enabled Prefontaine to kick the winning FG and defeat the BC Lions in the process. He also caught 4 passes for 101 yards in the game.

It’s like pulling hen’s teeth trying to get an update on injured players but TO did announce that by Thurs we should have news on RR. Will be checking the boards for news on other injuries.

Late flash – there is a rumor floating around the Sask fans board that RB Tristan Jackson has been re-signed by the Riders.......will keep a look-out for an announcement from the team. If this is true and Jock is injured we might see TJ as the designated returner. Another rumor floating around is that we could see Rob Bagg back on the field come Labor Day......now that would be the best news yet.

Looks like Anthony Calvillo will not be a starter in Montreal's game against the Argos.

Talk is that Buck Pierce will get the call as pivot in the Bomber's game against the Riders on Labor Day.
