I am a Riders Fan but I hate BC more than Calgary. I hope BC goes down
the drain they were in ugly uniforms as well. No I don't like Calgary I don't
like BC even more.

Ah.........come on DG - hate?......that's a pretty strong word for your feelings about a football team, isn't it? I can understand 'disliking' certain players or coaches on the teams but I am just too much of a CFL fan to 'hate' any team in our tiny league. Each one has it's good and bad points, even our Riders. I am willing to give each team there due when they have good games and pile on them when they don't. Calgary is showing that they have the will and talent to wrest us from top spot and BC is still a strong contender too.

As far as the new uniforms for BC - I think they are super cool or as the kids would say 'super bad' especially those black helmets with the big orange claw.

News around the league .......

It didn't take long for Canadian kicker/punter Hugh O'Neill to land a new job after he was fired by the Lion's - he signed up with the Edmonton Eskimos this past week - outta give Grant Shaw something to think about.

The Calgary Stampeders will be w/o both Nik Lewis who suffered a broken fibula in last week's game against the Lions and Jon Cornish who will be out w/ a contused thigh. Both Jon and Nik are play-makers for their team - their explosiveness and ability to beat the opposing D are heart and center of the team. Heal fast guys.

Winnipeg announced that they will be sticking with Max Hall as pivot for this week's game against the Ti-Cats, his second start at the position this year. Let's hope Marcel has designed some great plays for Max and that the team can find some consistency on offense. The Bombers also signed ex-Ti-Cat DB Bo Smith to the team this week. Over his five years with the Cats, Bo played in 56 games and had 168 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 6 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries as well as 13 pass knock-downs.

Montreal Alouettes will be missing a total of 8 players this week. Anthony and Brandon London are out with concussions - no word on when they will return. The Als will also be w/o Hebert and Bourke - knee injuries; Martin Bedard - shoulder and Jonathan Beaulieu-Richard, Bryn Roy and Brandon Denson - not sure what the injuries were on the last three. Tough news for the Als who are still w/o Jamal Richardson and will be for awhile yet as he recovers from surgery on his knee. Wish these guys a speedy recovery.

The news all of Rider Nation has been waiting for - with bated breath, I might add - is that Rob Bagg suffered a sprained knee - no tear - though he is still questionable for the game on Sat. Thank you Universe - Rock on Rob.

Week 9 Game Line-Up:

Thurs: BC at Montreal - 4:30 PST/7:30 EST
Friday: Calgary at Toronto - 4:30 PST/7:30 EST
Sat: Winnipeg at Hamilton - 10:00 AM PST/ 1:00 PM EST
Sat: Saskatchewan at Edmonton - 1:00 PST/4:00 EST

Thank you Universe. Actually wouldn't be surprised if we saw him return earlier, petros - can't see him sitting on the sidelines for too long. That said, I do hope that he doesn't return until he is completely 100%. Rock on Robbie.

Rider fans are breathing a bit easier tonight in the wake of a Montreal win that nobody saw coming. The loss drops BC to 5 and 3 still 2 pts behind Sask. Woo Hoo! Montreal .........way to go.

In a game almost as dismal as the weather for most of the first half, one could have been pardoned for turning away early - but this is the CFL and those who do are rarely rewarded for their lack of faith. Such was the case tonight.

Many may look back on the game and see Paul's opening FG as an omen chipping off the upright on its way in for 3. Though the same could be said for Montreal when White had to concede a safety on a high snap - the regular Montreal snapper is currently among the injured and his replacement had a few slips tonight before settling into position.

BC was ahead 15 to zip after 3/4 of play in the 2nd Q. Starting at his own 35, Montreal QB Tanner Marsh connected with Gerald Carter for a 52 yard gain then found DesLaurier for another 20 to put them 2 and goal. They failed to cross the goal line on their first two attempts and in what many say was a really gutsy move by Jim Popp the offence stayed on the field for a 3rd D attempt that saw Marsh find SJ in the end zone.

Montreal's defence was a big key to their win tonight. They found ways to get to Travis either by constant pressure or good coverage on his receivers. In the 3rd Q, BC registered only 3 offensive plays - they struggled on 1rst D's and had problems converting on 2nd D for most of the 2nd half.

There were a total of 3 TDs off punt/kick returns in the game. Tim Brown had 2 for BC and Montreal's Tyron Carrier got one for the Als. Tim added a 124 yard missed FG return for a TD. Tyron came close on a 90 kick return that saw him stopped in the red zone by a trip from Paul McCallum.

Tanner Marsh was like the Energizer bunny tonight - it didn't matter how many interceptions he threw, he just kept popping back up and firing off more passes. He threw for 14/32 racking up 329 yards, 1 TD and 4 interceptions. He also ran for 71 yards on 9 carries and a TD.

The final blow to the Lions' fortunes came on a 57 yard pass from Tanner to Deslauriers setting up a chip shot for Sean White and the gaming winning point. Montreal 39 - BC 38

The Als are tied with Hamilton for 2nd in the East for now. Hamilton plays Winnipeg on Saturday so the standings will change again but after tonight, I am sure a there are a few nervous betters out there.

One game in the CFL today that will see Calgary in Toronto to play the Argos .

Calgary is in a similar position to that of Montreal yesterday, missing four of their starting receivers, their starting tail-back Jon Cornish, their all-star right guard Dimitri Tsoumpas and are still w/o Drew Tate though Kevin has done a masterful job of keeping the team in the standings.

Toronto sits top of the Eastern standings riding a 4-game winning streak and Ricky is having one of the best seasons of his career with a completion percentage of 78.1%. The game is a rematch of the 2012 Grey Cup but it is anyone's guess who will be the victor in this one. The Stamps have failed to beat the Argos in five regular season games - not counting the Grey Cup loss.

There were a lot of 'hopefullys' from Huf as he addressed the press prior to Calgary leaving for TO. Hopefully the D will stand strong, hopefully there will be TOs in Calgary's favor, hopefully they can contain RR - that's a lot of wishful thinking but the Stamps have shown resilience in past games and no one is counting them out.

Rider fans will be trusting that RR exceeds his previous completion record and the Stamps remain 2 pts back of us in the standings .........hopefully.

I missed parts of last night's game. Once work for the day is done, I'm going to park my butt under the ash tree, spark up the BBQ and get another pair of free Mike's Rider flip flops. Want a pair?

Goooo Argos and Ricky Ray

In case you're thinking "dafuq?," the motif is from the state flag. . .

I am getting a real kick out of all the 'fans' dumping on Wonder Boy today, petros.......the forums are full of comments about his interceptions and fumble. What no one is really taking into account is the fact that it was Josh Neiswander who got picked to start the game - thus he was the one who got the practice time with the team. Tanner is 3rd string. He never played a CFL game in his life until last night. Montreal did their level best to lose the game with egregious penalties all night long but still Tanner refused to give up. Even when it looked as if they were beaten, Tanner somehow managed to execute plays against the once-lauded BC defense. So glad I stuck around for the entire game - it sure was a snooze-fest in the first half.

Would love a pair, petros............how big are your feet- nah forget the size, if they don't fit I will hang them on my Sask wall. LOL Looking forward to seeing RR have another outstanding game today. ROCK ON ARGOS!

BC got the idea for those matte black and dayglow colours from the Oregon Ducks. They seem a better representation of the broadway, gridiron, gladiator personna of American football.. than the freewheeling, academic, rugby inspired Canadian game.

Ball dropping can be expected in a downpour. I caught most of the first and second quarters while sitting in a waiting room at the Hosp. when picking up the Mrs. part of the third while having dinner at a restaurant and completely missed the fourth while picking up groceries.

They are size 43 in EU sizing which is a 10.5 if I'm not mistaken. PM me your box # and they'll be on their way today.

PS I'll grab you a box of the mike hard lime with the Rider logo on the neck for your collection and you can pick them up when here for the Grey Cup.

I'm still working the corporate folks for labour day tix.

I still say they are pretty darn cool, coldstream though everyone including Benevides has trouble reading the player's numbers. That said, they are selling like hot cakes. The Lions even sent one to Milt Stegall after his favorable remarks on the new colors - got a kick out watching him put it on last night though he did say he would not wear it in Winnipeg.

The new uniforms make them look like a SWAT team. it didn't go over very well when the Riders had the black uniforms.

Hmmm...........a swat team eh....maybe they should have taken them to Montreal last night.........cause they were definitely lacking in special weapons and tactics last night.

I loathed the Riders black unis, petros. There is a lot of chat about the Riders unveiling a new one too - sure hope they stick with variations of the Green and White should they do so.

What if they came out with traditional red and white Freddy Krueger rugby uniforms like the originals

I am way too much of a traditionalist, petros.................stick with the Green and White. I really like this years uniforms especially the white ones that make them looking like White Knights and shimmer in the sun. LOL!

I do too. It looks sharp. When they play BC on Oct 4 it's going to look like a game of chess.

I am planning on visiting the stores in Regina that carry Rider items like the Weston and Geroy potato chips and stocking up on every single item with a Rider logo on it............the hard lime will be a great addition to the collection.

Work harder!! LOL!

And unless they do something about being able to read the player's numbers better so the coaches know who should or should not be on the field it could be game a forfeit for BC. ;-)

CO-OP Game Day brand has all the Rider snacks and odd stuff. They have pancake batter with green specks this year. Do you have the Rider green windshield washer fluid?

Oh and the Rider fishing lures. They actually work on jackfish.
